I got HN to price match this yesterday, and it seems like a good unit - especially the Plex app available through the smart hub!

Most specs on the website - the main ones are:

Twin Tuner
500GB HDD
2D-3D Conversion
Smart Hub
Built in WiFi

  • Would be good if you can add to cart & purchase. I think no more stock.

    • Yup - getting the same thing now, worked fine yesterday as I was about to buy from them before I tried my luck with a price match..

Oh well, hopefully someone can use it for a price match somewhere seeing as HN will match Bing Lee as they have physical retail stores in Aus

    • I did the online chat thing - they tell me they still have store stock, so the deal can be done over the phone

  • It would be good if you can post your price matched receipt, I've been able to use a receipt as proof at HN before (for an HDD), but most don't if you can t prove somebody got the deal somehow.

I picked it up from good guys for $221 cash on New Years Eve. Advertised at $225 there. Will upload receipt tonight when i get home.

  • Sounds like a good deal, especially if this is not factory 2nds.

My PS3 and PlayTV already does all this, so I don't actually need one, but prices have come down a lot since a few years ago.

Ive found it very hard to find anything that matches the PS3 and playtv for stability and I have bought and returned a large number of DVRs as they just dont seem to do the job. I'd love to get something with more features but not at the risk of simple features like it actually recording being lost. Alot of these recorders seem to fail at the main thing they are designed to do.

  • I notice the customer review on the Bing Lee site is very unflattering. But probably worth more than the 1 star the review gives it.

Buggy software, don't bother. You will be frustrated with the PVR side of this device.

I have the E9000 (1TB HDD) and have to report that it is not too user friendly and mine has been very buggy…. Main issue at the moment is that it turns on and off by itself…. So far have taken it back to samsung twice (currently there) hope they actually fix the problem this time…

  • It is interesting to compare people's impressions of this blu-ray player to some of the reviews on the internet. For example Trusted Reviews gave it a score of 9 out of 10: http://www.trustedreviews.com/samsung-bd-e8500_TV-recorder--…
and Test Freaks a score of 7.7 out of 10: http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/blu-ray-players/samsung-bd-e8500…

  • when this unit is working it works well and has heaps of features.

The software should be updated as often as humanly possible , it is very buggy…make sure you have easy access to the hard reset button ( wall socket )
