Why apple cannot make a phone at this price with similar specs…

    • +19

they can. they dont want to.

    • +12

They can, they just don't want to because their brand is built on being perceived as luxury and exclusive.

      • -1

They can and they may probably do, but won't sell you at this price.

    • -2

They can’t for the quality they provides. You can have quality component for this much less .

    • +1

If you rate this so good why you want an Apple?

    • Apple makes better phones at lower cost - they just charge you more for the pleasure.

    • +1

Because people will pay more for apple….want them to lower the price? Then stop buying from them.

  • Can't seem to find where it says the case is included. Not a deal breaker but looking at buying this for my kid and it would be nice if it included everything

    • +1

      Motorola website

    • +2

yes can confirm it comes with a basic clear case.
Would also like to mention you might want to consider a different model for your kid (without the curved screen) as it makes it more prone to breaking when dropped.

      • Thanks - fair point!

Currently have an S21 with a dying battery. What should i be looking at for as an upgrade under 1k.

Sick of paying so much for phones. So the lower the better while still having good features ans performance.

    • +2

There have been several deals on the S24 posted recently, all well under $1000. But if you want to go super cheap and you're not a mobile gamer, you can't really go wrong with this one.

    • I have this phone…its great.
People like or loathe the curved screen edge….works perfect for me.
Once you get this for $248 you will never buy flagship again.

    • Yeah s24 is great. Plus if you're keeping that phone for long, you are guaranteed i think more 6 or more years of updates. S25 if you cna find a good deal or even a56 when it comes out soon.

    • The Samsung A35 available with the Telstra deal is an exceptional choice at only $299.

  • Tough choice between the G85 at effectively $250 after gift card and the G75 at $275 after gift card.
G85 form is better not too bulky if you can stand the curved edges, but slightly slower processor. The G75 has longer updates, tougher build and water resistance, bonus buds but IPS and bulky.

    • +2

      why not both?

    • Wait for G86 then

      • Not urgent for me I can wait. For others G86 releasing soon but full specs not yet available. Might be better or worse and these previous gen deals will disappear (look at G84).

    • HOLD…50% clearance sales, soon ish

  • What are the pros and cons of curved edges?

    • +3

Curved offers a better feel for some, but makes adding a screen protector difficult. That's been my experience with it. I personally prefer the straight edges over curved.

    • +3

My current phone has a curved edge and I want to throw it into the sun.
      Pro: nice marketing photos
Cons: screen protectors don't work right
Cases hide the edge so you can't drag to edge of screen properly
Holding your phone with a firm grip, so you can hold it above your head in bed for example, you get ghost touches on the screen edges, so the touchscreen doesn't work right

      (profanity) never again. It's a Motorola g54.

      • I was following until you said it's a G54. That's not a curved edge screen like the G85?

        • People tell me that, but I look in system information and it says moto g54 5g, and I look at the screen and it has a curve down to the bezel.
It is very minor, but I can see it and I can feel it with my nails. I have fat ogre hands, other people seem to handle this phone fine. But I've never had this problem with a smartphone before and I've been using them since I imported an iPhone 1 20 years ago.

      • +1

That's one reason I got rid of my S23 Ultra. The curve was slight, but it made navigation gestures very annoying with a case on the phone, and the screen protectors never fit properly.

  • A question for the gurus here. I am considering G85 or the G75. Which to choose between them? I do not game, general use, prefer GPS, contactless payment etc.
I have a Samsung galaxy A70, and I am worried that those are too similar to find a noticeable difference.
    I appreciate any thoughts.
    Thanks

  • For under $299 super happy with my G85 I got the grey version and damn this things looks really sexy and is paper thin and light. Display is gorgeous

  • Only $248 after the gift card value

That's it. I've very recently said it would be under $250 soon, and now it is.
Spending >$250 for phone or laptop/tablet is waste of money.

    • Still imo the gift card makes it not better than it just being $248 without no gc

  • I am currently waiting for the Samsung A56 but this Motorola phones confusing me.

    • The Galaxy A56 being a newly released phone will retail for at least $600.

  • Can any G85 owners tell me if the clock stays on screen when the screen is locked, or does the clock only appear if you bump the phone?

    • Similar to the G84 only when you tap or bump.

      • @LarryD Thanks for the quick reply. I also did a google search and found that there is an app to allow always on display clock function, but no information as to how much battery consumption is with it enabled. Not ideal. 2 years updates and 3 years security updates is a bit limiting for a $250 phone, but it is a nice OLED screen…

        • Only issue holding me back is lack of headphone jack and 128gb storage over 256gb for the G84.
