You’re always only one baggage handler away from damage , who would pay a grand for samsonite lol

    • +2

haha, thats what I see when I see people wheel around a Rimowa suitcase.

      • Thats what travel insurance is for….

I do business class returns to the UK annually on points with fam so take mountains of bags. Usually at least one gets broken. Small excess aside i get a new bag each trip with minimal effort as hard shell cases arent very repairable…

        • How can you afford family business class bro

        • This feels like a low key flex. I am jealous! Maybe I’m not using my points correctly…

          • @Ksou: Or more like you dont make as much points annually as he does, maybe. Some put business expenses on cc so end up witb tons… guessing

My last broken bag was a Samsonite, broken by qantas, took photo at bag carousel with Qantas flight tag in view and they (Qantas) replaced it for free 2 weeks later with a Desley of my choice and colour, had the Desley for a decade it’s amazing I love it

Thanks OP.. was looking for a bag to carry cash and gold bullion

  • Shame the proxis is so much more, had my Iconic order cancelled on me a month or so ago so was hoping for another crack at a great price :(

  • The "shock" part of "Lite-Shock" is the RRP.

  • Huh 55cm is 1.7kg think thats the lightest hardshell if found, anyone got better? Looking for lightest carry on thats a suitcase style so i can roll/drag it along

    • +2

Don't think you will find a lighter hardcase of this quality. Pretty good weight-to-size.

    • Not the lightest but I've been using the Samsonite soft 72H 55cm which is 1.9kg. I'd rather the soft suitcase over shell only because I open a lid and. Ot half the suitcase. Takes up less room on the floor

I got this bag on the last deal Amazon had.
It's a good bag, the only let down is the handle shaft doesn't look like it'll last as long as some of the other premium Samsonite bags as it's a bit thin.

    • +2

I have this as well and I have to say the handle design is the biggest let down. It's not ergonomic at all and is a pain to wheel around when heavy

      • Totally agree. The handle on this bag is so bad.

      • Returned this model twice because of the handle that failed and kept falling down. I’ll never buy a single shaft again. Not practical for leaning a briefcase against either

  • Most people who use this bag would have belongings in there that would not be worth $1000.

Besides, $356 is actually the inflated RRP for this bag.

  • These are not good. The latch which holds the opposite side to the zip break easily. Had to warranty fix it once, only to have it break again.

  • I bought this 68cm American Tourister for $95
    https://amzn.asia/d/6NnRohr

  • This is a much better choice for $345 because I can verify that I've taken that it around the world, plus two Asia trips:

Samsonite Red Toiis C Trunk Large 74cm Hardside Suitcase Ink Black 45861

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/325743908138?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

When I bought it I got the white version and it was called the STEM and I paid $399.

It comes with a handy cover. The large handle is very useful as is the trunk with the 80/20 split.

But what makes it the best is the quality of the wheels. I did some research on ball bearing wheel quality after borrowing my mother's suitcase which got destroyed on my 2023 RTW.

I wanted to get the soft travel pro which is a brand from America but the Amazon website prices were ridiculous but it has these fantastic smooth wheels.

This specific Samsonite model is a breeze to travel with as it rolls so smoothly.

    • I have the 75cm in it but oh boinits heavy

    • and u better be travelling in business or above if you have one of these :D

I have the cosmo lite in this size, which appears to be the older version of this bag. It’s taken 63 flights in the last 4 years like a champ and still has 6 years of warranty left.

I think these are good value under $400

    • Sir, 63 trips in 4 years, are you a pilot? Or you have a private jet?

But cant agree more on the durability. I'm in the same boat.

      For RRP, hell no
      For $300+, no brainer.

I got another c-lite 81cm from recent Iconic price error sale for $285 after cashback 🤣

    • Also have the cosmo lite, some scratches but great value and wheels still run smoooooth

    • I have the Cosmo Lite too, both in the 55cm and 75cm sizes. Yes I splurged. They'll probably outlast me.

Still going strong after 10 years and lots and lots of travel, airport abuse, and cobblestone streets in Europe.

Samonsite sell something called the C-Lite now which looks very similar, but the suitcase weights are about 0.4 - 0.5kg more than my set.

From someone who owns a large firelite (the older version), medium lite-shock, the old octolite hard case, and the medium proxis, I can say that these suitcases have been reliable throughout the years. Sure, maybe they got lucky and didn't get the nasty treatment, but as long as you pack your stuff correctly, i.e. support the middle section so it doesn't bend much when they put something heavy on top of it, then it should last for a long time. Once it came out from the carousel without one wheel, which most likely because the handler pulled it using the wheel but a few emails to Samsonite and they shipped me all four wheels for free (as long as you sent them the receipt).

I personally think that if I fly with only 20kg of baggage, I don't want to spend 4.5-5 kg on a suitcase alone, there won't be many left that you can carry with only 15kg - just giving a different perspective.

Damn, had it in cart and bought discounted gift card to purchase and then it went out of stock! Got greedy to save a further $10 and now stuck with a $346 gift card 😓

    • +1

At least it's an Amazon gift card. People from an earlier deal had GCs stuck with The Iconic

      • Yeh, plus it has no expiry so I should eventually make full use of it. I'm just annoyed because there doesn't seem to be an obvious way to see stock levels.

  • I’ve used a 81cm for years, wanted to get a new one but for this price I wonder if I should just get a 75? Missed the last 81cm deal

  • Why does anyone need a hard case if you're not transporting glassware. Just buy the lightest bag you can find. If you travel a few times a year max, you don't need anything special. We have bags around 20 years old doing the job perfectly (not hard case). Light weight and wheels should be enough. Never had any problems. By the way I have a few hard cases, but they are also very light and I bought them for around $80 a few years ago. $300 is just throwing money out. None ever break, so brands are useless.
