Amir @ AudioScienceReview recommends these:

Conclusions
You have to shake your head when you see and read about the performance of this $25 IEM. It displays a level of performance with a bit EQ that is world class. Feed it some well recorded music and you are there: the pinnacle of high fidelity sound. I don't care if you don't want to use an IEM. Get one of these (or the original Zero) and get calibrated on what good sound is.

As to whether to get the zero or zero:2, I would say that with the above EQ, Zero:2 sounds more to my liking than the original 7Hz Zero. That one though sounds more correct without EQ. Your opinion may vary.

I am happy to recommend the 7Hz x Crinacle Zero:2 IEM.

More bass and less treble peaks / troughs compared to the original neutral-ish Zero - see the frequency response.

  • Yeah, I buyed. I will EQ it though, need to work out how but I will lol

    • will you be listening on a PC or mobile device?

      • PC, I can see there is a simple 2 band EQ that Amir made, and also a fancy one in the comment section. Should be very interesting to try them.

        • +14

Equalizer APO with Peace GUI is the best imo.

          • +3

@xaksh: Thank you very much, I'll try it! :)

          • +1

@xaksh: Received these Headphones, with Equalizer APO and Peace GUI as suggested, I loaded the Harman Full EQ from the audiosciencereview thread and WOW. These are amazing.

Very hard to tell the difference between them and my HD600s. Listening to my Floyd FLAC rips and they are truly fantastic.

So crisp, I can pick out every instrument at every moment in the song. And not lacking in the bass.

            • @Joost: As a n00b - could you provide the EQ settings, or how to load them, with Peace? I have installed but no idea where to go next!

              • @StoinkerDoink: I feel you, it confused me too. Not at my computer so working from memory:
Download the EQ settings from the forum page, it'll be a text file.
Open Peace, use the Complicated UI setting, the one with more options. The one on the right when you have to choose a layout.
The import button is on the right side, halfway up the window.
Pick the text file you downloaded, and choose the option to just change the current settings.
                Then it'll be working.

Additionally, click the save button to save it within Peace to use it later. It won't overwrite the selected saved one, it'll ask you to name the current settings and it will add it as a new preset.

                • @Joost: Fantastic thank you! Didn't realise settings were further down the page. I agree, as a person who is dubious of differences in EQ, I really think these adjustments are superior.

            • @Joost: Great! I have been using the HD 6XX and ocassionally mine KZ ZS10 Pro and was underwhelmed with the performance even after spending time on tuning the equalizer. But for the price they still are pretty good.

              Happy Listening!

      • Any good one for mobile?

        • iOS or Android?

          • @beltdrive: Both. I use Android, wife iPhone

            • +1

@cherpu: I believe Wavelet is the most common recommendation for Android

Unfortunately there aren't any system-wide EQ apps on iOS

Does anyone know well these compare to the TRUTHEAR x Crinacle Zero:BLUE 2?

    • +1

(Note: I have no idea what I'm talking about, take this with a grain of salt)

A cursory look at the frequency response shows that the Zero:BLUE 2 is significantly more V-shaped and "fun" sounding.

I'd guess the Zero:BLUE 2 probably perform better in technicalities with two DDs compared to one, especially with the bass subwoofer.

Edit: Take it from the man who tuned both IEMs: the Zero:BLUE 2 is very Harman-compliant compared to his personal preferences in the Salnotes Zero 2.

Thanks, do you know what would be best third-party cable to pair with the Linsoul 7Hz x Crinacle Zero:2?

        • I have absolutely Zero idea, I'm not too deep into the hobby.

  • +2

Don’t know wtf these are, but I bought them. For my steam deck and iPhone. Any hints for me?

    • +2

I want to play steam deck on metro (40 minutes each way) would you recommend it for that?

      • +3

For sure. It’s a great device. I’m not interested in playing AAA titles handheld. I play things like dead cells, hades, balatro, slay the spire. Can’t sit at my pc and game anymore just chill on the couch gaming handheld and also on the metro, waiting at the barber, at my mrs parents place lol. Wherever really.

    • +1

They're earbuds with good sound for cheap
If you want to finnick around with how they sound, you can use an equaliser to equalise (EQ) them

  • +15

Cheaper on Aliexpress, $23.92 and free shipping for Blue no mic ($27.02 on checkout). https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006868801230.html

Can also get the KZ ZS10 PRO X for $38.43 on checkout, very nice price considering I purchased them for $46 the other day. https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006335117896.html

    • +1

Everyone seems to pile on them these days compared to the Zero 2s. I was originally going to opt for the ZS10 Pro Xs too (as I like a more V-shaped soundstage myself) but the ear fatigue from the very sharp, piercing treble is apparently quite noticeable on the Pro Xs and the build quality of the KZ series in general is quite hit and miss with a lot of people complaining about the fit of the rubber tips.

      • You can go for ZS12 PRO X which solves that issue.

    • Nice one. Almost bought another pair of Wan'er from Amazon after the cable on the first pair died. Hope the quality is better on these.

  • +3

Not sure how much one should trust reviews from Amir.

    • +2

Me neither, but they seem ok for measurements at least (and OzBargain loves the quote).

Resolve from The Headphones Show (who do not sell these specific IEMs) states in their review

If you're looking for good value in audio, this should be high on that list.

They mention they experienced fit issues - that "it might be fine for the majority of the population" but wasn't great for them.

    • +4

Amir's reviews are just 'academic', and he's using charts and measurements to analyze equipment, for distortions, SNR, etc.
With his pedantic approach, you can learn some things, but I don't like to get lost in only numbers which does not always capture the musicality of something.

There are people who use audio gear to listen to music, and there are those that use music just to test the audio gear !

    • +6

his "review" is basically just a suite of measurements, and then rating the IEM according to how close it is to Harman's target

if you keep this in mind, I don't really see much to distrust

      • +1

Better than some golden ear's opinion anyway.

Reproducing a digital signal as faithfully in analogue as possible is surely the goal for any audio product and that's what he is measuring.

      • +1

if you keep this in mind, I don't really see much to distrust

I stopped paying attention to audio a while back, but he's got a history of messing up measurements, rushing measurements, and not properly understanding how to use his own equipment. He and his site used to make a epeen his expensive measurement instrumentation, and there was an old Youtube video where he was at an AP seminar and asked for one "do everything automatically" button. The AP representative was utterly shocked and didn't know what to make of the request- it was like asking for a "do it all auto" button for an air traffic control centre. Unfortunately I think he had that video taken down because it was so embarrassing.

I don't trust that guy or his (often nasty) circlejerking site in the slightest. They use the word "science" about as accurately as the church that also uses the word in their name. They are both just cults.

I'm sure this post will be heavily downvoted in short order, by people who just want the easy way out to be told what to believe, and have never taken their own measurements or built their own audio gear.

        • I think he had that video taken down because it was so embarrassing.

Proof, or are you speculating? Because that sounds like a stretch

          • @beltdrive: Haven't watched this one for years- I dropped out of headphones 5 years ago. Turns out it's still online.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V6YN-mshmY

            From 57 minutes.

First he admits to not knowing how to use his analyser- doing measurements and then at the end realising he was measuring ports that had no equipment attached. He expects the equipment to compensate for something this fundamental. How someone could casually admit to this while at the same time positioning himself as the One True Messiah of personal audio is comical.

He then asks for the machine to suggest test parameters. The presenter very tactfully tells him at all the parameters are already displayed in the lower corner of the interface, and implies that the user should be able to see what they are testing if they look at the screen, and because it's an incredibly complex area it's really to the user to understand what they are testing.

These are very expensive, very complex devices. Testing a single device can take the best part of a day, and the machine is vulnerable to environmental factors (noise, electrical systems). They are not K-mart microwave ovens with an "autocook chicken" setting.

ASR is as good as it gets IMO, a scientific approach to audio. I have purchased DAC and amps based in the sites data, it's very helpful for budget hardware.

  • Tempting but I alr got 5 earphones lol

    • Which 5 earphones?

  • +1

If I didn't have the Hexa's already I probably would jumped on these.

  • +1

Pretty good IEM but definitely change the cable if you can since the stock cable is pretty bad.

    • Have you got any recommendations?

    • Any recommendations would be great

  • Thanks Op

  • Do this need an amp to get the best sound or will audio straight out of a PC soundcard still sound better with these?

    • +2

This absolutely does not require an amp due to it being an IEM.

This only has a single DD so you won't get any significant issues with sound quality from a mobo like the Zero:BLUE 2, but an Apple dongle or other similar DAC might help, especially if you hear noise with mobo audio.

  • Do these need to be tuned for use on iPhone? (16 Pro, if that makes a difference)

    • +2

No, should be plug and play given you have a 3.5mm to USB C adapter.

  • +2

Cheaper on AliExpress… Around 14.54 USD + GST.

  • +1

New to IEMs… How do they compare to headphones for gaming?

    • +2

This guy review IEM for gaming.

      https://www.youtube.com/@FreshReviewsYT/videos

For IEM it's better to invest in more expensive one for gaming as they provide more imaging.

I personally use simgot supermix 4 and I can tell a huge difference in comparison to my sennheiser HD58X in term of details and imaging.

I feel you need to invest a lot more money if you wanted to get better headphones in comparison to IEM.

  • +4

There are a lot of good deals with the current aliexpress sale for chifi IEM. But be warned, once you get into the IEM rabbit hole there is no going back.

Also it's better to do a bit of research on the tuning before buying IEM as they follow different tuning (e.g. Harman, neutral, meta tuning, etc) as some people are more sensitive towards certain area of the frequency (e.g. treble sensitive).

And changing tips can change the sound of the IEM drastically.

  • +5

The version with a mic is just $4.71 more: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0DLB3GFBF

As with most wired IEM's these days, the mic is surprisingly good.

    • +1

Thanks, might get these to replace my work Jabra headset.

    • only pink :(

  • +7

Good pair of buds to get into IEMs, just don't fall down the rabbit hole.

You'll get these, then hear that Moondrop Chu II is great, then you're opening a package with a pair of Simgots, KZs, Cadenzas, Truthear Hexas, Tangzu…

  • I got some a few months ago and swapped out the tips with dekoni bulletz memory foam and they sound a lot better imo. Sound is comparable to my ~$300 technics az60 wireless buds

  • Ordered 1 Thanks!

  • +1

Got mine in and was listening to some music off Spotify on the phone. Absolutely insane quality. Ive heard the cable isn't too great so would like opinions

  • +1

Received mine last night. An awaking. Truly worth the 30 bucks just to realise how good in quality ear headphones can be. Now the search is on for a Bluetooth alternative.

  • +1

Just got these. Initial thoughts are that for $30 they are amazing- far better sound quality (clarity of detail) than any of the >$300 ANC Bluetooth headphones (which imo generally sound like warmed up garbage).

Nothing immediately jumps out as objectionable. They lack tactile bass compared to a semi-serious circumaural + good amp setup that costs almost a hundred times more, but I guess that's just an IEM thing.

  • +3

Just received my pair yesterday, first proper test of them tonight. It's actually a bit insane that you can get this level of sound quality for $31 (or less if you're patient).
I've spent a lot more money on IEMs and headphones in the past which don't sound as good as these.
