Starlink Standard Satellite Internet Kit $349 (Regional Areas Only, Residential Plans from $99) + $34 Delivery @ Starlink

11033

Was on Starlink site today and noticed Standard Kit on special!

Looks to be Regional Areas Only due to "congestion" charge within Metro Areas - Tested for VIC and NSW Metro Addresses. Regional Appears to be fine and no additional charge.

The Generation 3 Standard Starlink Kit is on Sale via Starlink (at the moment). Highly likely that being Starlink have done the Sale, all retailers like JB, Harvey Norman, Officeworks and Bunnings will most likely lower their prices (usually within 24 hours).

This is more suited for homes and businesses with fixed locations.

Speed Tests of Standard Kit can be found here including Latency - This is on a Residential Plan (not Residential Lite).

Two Residential Plan Option:

  • Residential - Our most popular plan for typical residential customers. Unlimited data.
  • Residential Lite - An affordable option for smaller households and lower internet usage. Unlimited deprioritized data. Speeds may be lower than our Residential service at peak hours.

Referral Links

Referral: random (110)

The referrer and referee receives bonus credit for a month of standard service, 30 days after the referee activates and keeps their Starlink. Referrals will only issue credits to Standard Plan (Residential) and Mobile Regional (Roam) subscriptions. Kits purchased from a retailer or reseller are not eligible for the referral program. No credit will be given even if a referral link was used during activation.

      • how about local corporate tax dodgers

Why do you think that YOU get to decide how much tax someone else pays?

        • +1

i don't. Although I earn less then 10,000th of the income, but pay $40,000 more…i probably deserve some input.

          • -1

            @M00Cow:

Although I earn less then 10,000th of the income

            Do you though?

Could you show some evidence of how much net income one of the above companies has that you think is legally taxable but they aren't paying income tax on?

Or did you just read a story in the internet designed to make you angry and so you did what you were told?

            i probably deserve some input.

            You do. It's called voting.

            • @1st-Amendment:

              Do you though?

Could you show some evidence of how much net income one of the above companies has that you think is legally taxable but they aren't paying income tax on?

absolutely give me your home address and I'll pop around with my income statements and tax records. What do you drink?

I'm guessing by your handle you exempt yourself from paying tax like uncle Rupert?

              • @M00Cow:

and I'll pop around with my income statements

Go back and read what I wrote. You clearly missed it the first time.

Here it is again to help you out: "how much net income one of the above companies has "

                • @1st-Amendment: NewsCorp Australia 2024 Annual

                  Overall revenues for the
year rose 2% to $10.09 billion, while
net income expanded by a robust 89%
                  to $354 million.

Newscorp Australia Corporate tax paid: $0

feel free to google other results.

offer is still in the table from me to come over and discuss it further.

Given your handle, I'd love to hear Why you're so passionate about first constitutional referendum! What's so endearing about the 1906 changes to section 13 to cause Senators’ terms to commence in July instead of January?

                  • @M00Cow:

                    NewsCorp Australia 2024 Annual

According to their annual report here Newscorp is a "wholly owned subsidiary of the American News Corp" based out of Delaware, USA.

Why would a foreign company pay company tax on profits in Australia? You should take this up with the governor of Delaware. Being a strong Blue Democrat state I'm sure you could let them know how terrible their tax policy is.

                    • @1st-Amendment:

Why would a foreign company pay company tax on profits in Australia?

Indeed, you're too funny! But back to your handle/username and your affection for the 1906 change to the constitution changing Senators end date from 31 Dec to 30 June and start dates from 1 January to 1 July. What's your thinking on that? Why are you so passionate that you needed to chose that nom de plume?

    • +17

They have reached their satellite capacity and cannot support any new users in those areas. The fact the Liberals are touting this as a replacement for the NBN is insane.

      • Reached satellite capacity?

I see. I'll have to read up more about this.

        • +3

          Reached satellite capacity?

In those areas, yes. When they release new Satelitte version (like V3 via Starship), they will be able to have more capacity in some of the areas. Its because people in Metro have gone Starlink because the NBN is so crap.

I am in a FTTP upgrade area and there are still heaps of people going to Starlink.

      • the Liberals are touting this as a replacement for the NBN is insane.

Well, it is a practical replacement for SkyMuster, but only for people living in remote areas. If it's being touted as anything else, that's a lie that they're hoping people won't see through.

        • Well, it is a practical replacement for SkyMuster, but only for people living in remote areas

          Which is exactly the claim.

If it's being touted as anything else

It isn't. This is why the phrase #Fake News got invented.

    • +3

This is the problem with satellite internet - it's designed for maybe 10 customers per square kilometre. Put up 10x more satellites, then in theory you get 100 customers per square kilometre, so even then it's never going to be usable for everyone in an urbanised area.

And no, 10x more satellites won't work, because there's only so many radio frequencies that you can use to communicate with the satellites, not enough.

  • +16

I hope one day we can get a good competitor to starlink.
Would be nice to see a drive towards improved speeds/stability and pricing.

    • +5

There are more coming, but could be years away. They all seem to using SpaceX as a launch provider anyway.

By the time there are competitors, Starlink will probably have Gigabyte speeds when Starship is in the mix.

      • Fingers crossed.
As long as it's smart, capable people and there is at least some competition to drive them all to improve, I don't mind who is associated with the company.

It'd be awesome to see gigabit available to almost anyone, anywhere.
Accessibility is a must for global improvement.

    • -1

Nah, Starlink and satellite internet is a stopgap band-aid solution to providing internet access.
We need more fibre cabling and cellular towers, but that won’t happen because it’s “too expensive”.
Are the government really for the people if they’re putting profits first?

  • +1

Why are we building a hair plug clinic on mars when we have perfectly good toupee's on earth?

    • because to get to Mars, we need to pollute the earth

    • +3

AB dont do satellite internet though.

  • I still see original price of $549. I notice for my area they are adding an extra $149 congestion charge. (Ha!) If you get this, go to a retailer and they won't charge you.

    • You must be in a QLD or WA area?

      • Nope, on the north edge of Sydney. It wasn't there 4 months ago. Seems like a dirty cash grab.

        • Possibly could be due to a metro area. Maybe this is only for Regional Areas like earlier this year.

Edit - Just did a check on a Metro Address and has $549.

Elon Musk transitioned from being a left-wing hero that was saving the planet to the worst villain in a matter of months. People are brainwashed so easily. It happened with Covid, it's happening again. Unbelievable!

    • +1

No brain washing, his actions have made that happen!

      • +6

I'm curious, how low does one's self esteem have to be to believe virtue signalling over Elon's buffoonery on an obscure website will enhance your social standing?

      • +5

What actions? leading SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, Boring Company, etc all with a purpose of a better future. Or do you mean delivering on a review of US government spending which has been the committement from every president in the past two decades and never occurred. Stop watching short format content and get across the bigger picture. A saint or perfect human hardly but sometimes doing the right thing is hard…

        • +1

Henry Ford and Walt Disney were anti-semitic but were rich and produced great, even nice, things.

          • Tesla and SpaceX have received the most direct government support through contracts, loans, and tax incentives.
          • The Boring Company, Neuralink, and SolarCity have received some degree of support, mainly for specific projects or research initiatives.

It's ironic that his companies benefit from government support, and the others with sympathetic legislation, but now 300 million people are grifters.

          • @Big L:

It's ironic that his companies benefit from government support,

All change happens by changing from the current situation to something different. If this never happened there'd never be ANY change.

        • He is not leading a review, he is mindlessly cutting services people rely on, overstating the savings, and trying to ruin the system of government so they can privatise it and increase the profits of billionaires. If you think he is actually doing this to help people I have a bridge to sell you.

He was never a left-wing hero. Find even one reference from a demonstrably left voice that ever said anything nice about him. He was a centre hero.

(Tip: no leftist ever has any billionaire as a hero).

      • Oh dear. This is a good example of gaslighting. Either your concept of left-wing is wrong or you are not spending 5 minutes to research.

        • +2

            • Musk having dinner at the white house in 2015.
            • @dwbr: Not sure what you think any of that means.

The Dems are not who you think they are - only a few (eg. Bernie, AOC) are actually left, hence shunned by the majority of "right lite" Dems.

              • -1

@fantombloo: Karl Marx’s ideas have been ‘distorted’, right?

                • +2

@dwbr: No, his ideas are intact and in large looked upon favourably by the left.

Can you specify just one of his ideas that the Dems properly embrace?

                  • @fantombloo: Marx says that economic inequality leads to social exclusion, which drives people into criminal behavior. So the criminal it's victim and should not be punished. This stupid idea is everywhere, not only embraced by the Dems.

                    • @dwbr: So nothing positive on Elon by the left then?

                  • +4

                    @fantombloo:

                    his ideas are intact

They got universally debunked 30 years ago. Even the Chinese and the Russians abandoned them because they knew how terrible they were.
Only the latest generation of Western kids brought up on a diet of social media and a piss-poor education have never learned these lessons.

Can you specify just one of his ideas that the Dems properly embrace?

Lol, pretty much all of them.
You can even see them in this comments section. Have you read the communist Manifesto because your question makes it sounds like you have no idea.

Here's the very first line: 'The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.'

This is the premise for ALL left wing policy, that people are bundled into groups and judged based on this group membership. This is in contrast to the Capitalist idea that all people are individuals free to make their own choices.
So when they talk about Black man good, white man bad, that is the Marxist 'class struggle'. Rich bad, poor good, more class struggle. Women good, men bad, once again class struggle. It's all about putting people into groups which is the foundation of Marxism.

                    Want some examples?
Gender Pay gap -Men bad women good.
DEI: White straight man bad, everyone else good
BLM: White people bad, Black people good
Welcome to country: Brown people good, white people bad
The Voice: Aboriginal good, white people bad
Alphabet Soup pandering: gays good, straight people bad
Rejection of biological science: Weirdos good, everyone else bad.
Climate Change: Western society bad, China good
Open borders: Western society bad, everyone else good
Rejecting law enforcement: Laws bad, Crime good

It's wall-to-wall Marxism. One day when you're older you'll wake up to it.

                    • @1st-Amendment:

Have you read the communist Manifesto

The degree of hate is interesting. Media is not instigating anything comparable when it comes to evils like CCP, Soros, Zuck, Murdoch, Saudi royals (slavery, general butchery)… But their former left leaning darling is the devil incarnate now seemingly.

Most of the hate on socials at least seem to be run by loads of bot accounts and random pages that have sprung up out of nowhere. This is just from a spot check earlier of social media posts claiming how Elon stole all his business ideas, has no real skill, his family killed South Africans, he's using his kid as a human shield, is a Russian asset, etc.

      • Media is not instigating anything comparable

How do you think evil spreads it message? Osmosis?
5 of the 5 examples you gave own and run media channels. Can you not see the pattern?

Most of the hate on socials

So you've identified the social media is poison, yet you continue to consume it?

There's a adage that says if you can't go without something for a month then it's addiction, so here's a test. Try switching off all media mainstream and social, for one month. Then come back and tell me if you lost any value in your life. You might be surprised to see how truly evil it is after you've removed yourself from its grip.

He has not lost his mind, he has a one track mind.

        • After reading his biography it’s very clear he will stop at nothing to get humanity to mars. Even if that means teaming up with a President he criticised for years, getting death threats to his entire family and hurt his Tesla brand, he sees it as the only way to stop America going bankrupt, which would hinder the mission to Mars.

    • Is that with the recent upgrades? My understanding is Sky Muster at least in our are completed upgrades in December, it's cheaper than this deal too.

      • No was around 2 years ago. From what I can see the 100Mbps Sky Muster plan is 104.95 a month that would be more than Starlink. We get a sold 100-150 Mbps.

        • Mmm, my old man is on $89 a month for 100/20 under Sky Muster with ABB (so prob could shop around cheaper), he is still waiting on upgraded dish to see the improvement though
