      • Works fine for me. Debrid Media Manager to load links, refresh my library and content is there. Pretty flawless playback on a 50mbps connection.

      • Yeah I've had no issues touchwood

  • +1

and with that, binge is proper dead

  • So what will be the difference between binge and this ??

And wow, more fragmentation to streaming services.

  • Foxtel is losing HBO context from 31 March.. But if you are a hard wired foxtel customer, you'll be able to access MAX with ads subscription for free..

I'm now tossing up getting a foxtel iQ5 account, which has a decent $70 deal a month, which will include MAX and equivalent just about to Kayo..
Because then another person can use the foxtel account on the foxtel go app and cast to TV etc..

So then two of us are splitting $70 a month, for foxtel, kayo & MAX. Thoughts? $35 per month each..

    • I got this for $50 per month through the Foxtel chat yesterday. I was already a Foxtel now customer though, don’t know if that makes a difference.

Season 2 of last of us? That's not a selling point

    • +3

TLOU S2 & HOTD are the main reasons I'm considering it.

    • +4

First season was good watching. Critics gave it universal acclaim. Ratings and viewership were very high, including highest ever for a debut HBO series. Heavily nominated and awarded.

Personally, one of the very few series (or films) that I'll pony up cash for a sub to watch at release.

Second season hasn't been released and reviewed yet. Unless you're referring to the game, Part II, and you either personally didn't enjoy it or, more likely, are part of that minority taking a socio-political position against it for it's writing?

  • Putting my hand up if 3 others want to share a premium account.

    Upvoted for TLOU hack!

  • +5

    FINALLY!!!!!
Murdoch doesn't control HBO Max content!
    SUCK IT RUPERT AND LACHY!

    • Don't think for a second that HBO entering the Australian market wasn't heavily delayed by negotiating with those guys, guarantee they are getting some sort of kick back out of it.

      • I do hear Foxtel’s giving about 1 million Max subs to its customers, but those will eventually expire.
The path is set, at least.

    • Murdock no longer owns Foxtel well once the deal settles this year, DAZN will with News Corp having a minor stake in DAZN

      • +2

DAZN, a company trying to turn sports purely into a gambling thing that's owned by a Russian oligarch. They don't actually care about Foxtel's entertainment bit because they're focused on sport and gambling revenues.

That it's questionable who's worse between Murdoch and Blavatnik means I have no problem avoiding anything Foxtel does now or in the future.

  • Anyone know if Max will have the bulltwang feature of blocking house sharing?

  • +4

It annoys the hell out of me the way the streaming services seem to link the resolution options to the number of devices ie you want the best streaming quality, you have to pay for 4 devices. Netflix do the same thing. We only have 2 people in our house so we're not going to be using more than 2 devices at a time - there should be an option to have the better quality on fewer devices at a lower rate. I used to be able to make it a bit more worthwhile by giving my mum access on one of the other devices (she was in a nursing home at the time, so her iPad was her main source of entertainment). She passed away before the Netflix password sharing crackdown anyway, but now we're still paying for 4 devices when we rarely use more than 1 at a time, and never more than 2.

If they're not going to let you share the account beyond your own house, they should at least have enough flexibility in their subscription plans so that streaming quality isn't inextricably linked to the number of devices.

Video is stupid expensive to store, host and stream, which is why streaming services were developing their own hardware and software stacks to heavily compress their videos for streaming.
If you thought streaming services price-gouging people was bad, wait till you see the ad-ridden hellscape that is YouTube.

      • I watch YouTube through a web browser with no ads

I use Stremio + AIOStreams add-on + Real-Debrid + EasyDebrid + TorBox and I'm still going to end up paying for Max I think. I already pay for Ad free Prime & Paramount+.

    • why not this since you are already doing some dodgy stuff?

      • It's more for when something goes wrong I can just default to the paid apps instead of stuffing around trying to fix it when I just want to unwind after work.

        • +2

ah right, I haven't had a problem in years

    • -1

Edit: for clarification the AIOStreams is the paid Elfhosted instance.

    • -1

Edit 2: Since I had to explain myself on another reply here is why I use the particular setup.

I use AIOStreams because it combines results from other addons (Torrentio, Mediafusion, Comet, Debridio) into one plus it provides additional control over how results are displayed.

Torrentio, Mediafusion, Comet, Debridio are just databases. One database might have something which another might not have. So it's good to have variety and not just depend on the one database.

EasyDebrid and TorBox are just additional debrid providers and provides additional redundancy. Something might be available on EasyDebrid that isn't available on Real-Debrid. Usually for me it's 4K Linux isos that are more readily available on ED vs RD.

  • Anyone want to go quarters in a premium sub and see how it goes?

  • +3

Another streaming service cool no wonder piracy rates are back up

  • +1

I got slightly excited because maybe this sub offers movies that aren't available on any other subs.

but they don't even allow us to browse/search the content?? hopefully on 31 March they do. I tried accessing content from the US website but I get a "Ooops not working" message. https://www.max.com/au/en/movies

otherwise who would just sign up blind without knowing there is stuff they want to watch? I guess that's the risk they want you to take by "preordering" at introductory prices.

  • +1

    Stremio with real debrid..

    • And EasyDebrid and TorBox…

      • I've yet to find something not available on RD + torrentio… what have you needed?

        • Lots of 4K episodes don't come up on RD via Torrentio, mainly ED has what I want via Mediafusion, Debridio and Comet. Torrentio is the one I see the least in my AIOStreams results.

          • @Futura: I see - I dont use 4k media so i guess that makes sense.

Merged from HBO Max Pricing Announced, Peoples Thoughts on Value?

What are peoples thoughts on the announced pricing

    Basic with Ads Plan:
    * Launch Price: $7.99/month or $79.99/year (for first 12 months)
    * Regular Price: $11.99/month or $119.99/year
    * Features: Full HD streaming, two simultaneous streams, ads included

    Standard Plan:
    * Launch Price: $11.99/month or $119.99/year (for first 12 months)
    * Regular Price: $15.99/month or $159.99/year
    * Features: Full HD streaming, two simultaneous streams, offline downloads (30 titles)

    Premium Plan:
    * Launch Price: $17.99/month or $179.99/year (for first 12 months)
    * Regular Price: $21.99/month or $219.99/year
    * Features: 4K streaming with Dolby Atmos (when available), four simultaneous streams, offline downloads (100 titles)

Launch price seems just ok to me but I think the regular price needs some work as it really gets into the range where it needs to show a lot of value to justify those prices.

Note: The launch price will only be available for the month of April.

    • +3

Arrr, I be thinkin' the regular prices for HBO Max be a mite steep, matey. I be wonderin' if it be worth the extra doubloons on top of paying for so many other platforms to access all your favourite viewing treasures.

    • +3

      I'll stick with uncle Torrence.

      • +2

        Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrghh

    • Back at the height of Game of Thrones I'd maybe consider it but not now. And $200+ a year for 4k. Pass

      • +2

Yeah looks like a subscribe for a mohth each year, binge, cancel.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghh… found this online, not sure what it all means, but I am sure it is something good ;)

I have foxtel platinum and have had it for decades now, I have a lot of gripe about foxtel and gripe about it especially around pricing and how it treated its customers at times but the pricing and dominance was due to other factors involving telstra and how they had power …anyway dont want to get into all that.

I find it strange people seem to be happy that instead of it being with foxtel, now its another payment scheme we have to shell out for, just like how disney left foxtel / stan and netflix to create its own. The more fragmented the market gets, the more people will churn back to piracy. While i dont want dominance and anti-competition, i also think the days when everything was on one or 2 systems was a lot easier and more manageable than the current state it has gotten to.

I do feel some sympathy for Netflix as when they came in, a lot of people stopped piracy due to the cheap prices and having so much content in one area at a low price. And then the fragmentations occured once all the studios waited for people to adjust to streaming then they swooped in and cut out the middle man and we are in this current state where its very pricey again to have everything under the sun.

    • +2

current state where its very pricey again to have everything under the sun.

yeah, obviously the best bang for your bucks these days (if you want to pay for streaming services) is to switch month to month and binge shows.

Apple TV regularly gives ppl a free month or two as well.

      • +2

If only apple tv actually had anything worth watching.

        • Severence and Slow Horses.

I will check out the new show Dope Thief but have no idea if it's good.

          • @bohn: First ep was decent.

          • @bohn: Severance jumped the shark at the end of S1. Slow Horses is the exception, I'll give you that.

        • That is the catch and the reason why they are constantly trying to get customers. They just don't have enough good quality shows or movies. They have a couple but that's about it. Then there are some that have a good idea but execution after the first couple.of episodes is atrocious and meandering.

  • +1

Paywalling 4K to premium tiers in 2025 is just insane to me…. Kayo, Binge etc also do this and are all over priced for what you get.

Appreciate their server farms require 4x the bandwidth to deliver these but at those prices - tell ‘em they’re dreaming son….

    • Most 4k streaming content is up scaled and compressed and is not much better then a physical media Bluray Disks. Its all about the bit rates. Full HD is good enough for streaming.

Your really only paying for the - DolbyHDR or HDR10+ when available as the REAL extra cost in terms of the value of what you get. But if your TV doesn't have good DolbyHDR or HDR10+ thats again its a waste of money.

      • Yeah stremio seems like full quality and at least have a choice in it. 4k and atoms is a good combo for me, noticeably better, even on the Samsung soundbar.

  • Any VPN deals lmao
