    TP-Link is the World’s No.1 Wi-Fi Product Provider;

    Important when buying this device.

    • +1

Every time there is a TP Link Post someone has to reference the whole router security issue. It is router related, not every single product.

Also this product isn't a WiFi device, so don't see how it is relevant…….

      • Its just marketing speak, but I think one of the primary use cases for PoE is cameras and wifi.

        • +1

If you are running an ethernet cable to the camera anyway, to carry power, why are you messing with WiFi?

      • It's not just routers that have security issues

        https://goughlui.com/2018/11/03/not-so-smart-tp-link-tl-sg10…

        • +4

That's a managed switch, hence the title "not so smart". For this unmanaged switch (aka dumb switch), TP-Link cut cost so you can't even login to the switch.

However, for people who are still scared and wanting a PoE switch for security cameras, setup a VLAN for those cameras and the PoE switch and isolate that VLAN completely (i.e. do not grant that VLAN Internet access nor access to any of your internal network, only permit NVR or camera controller to access them).

For WiFi access points, if you are still scared, then don't buy it.

      • Not all wifi devices are routers either, Whats your point?

        • +1

Because apparently TP Link being "The world's No.1 WiFi Product Provider" is important when buying this POE Non-Managed Switch.

          • @geekcohen: It's just marketing speak, no need to get your panties in a twist. Somewhat relavant anyway, speaking as someone who uses this very switch to power Omada APs.

            • @Teebytok: More so, just clarifying since specifics often matter and on Ozb. Yes, I use this same switch for powering APs as well for Installations.

Few other TP Link items qualifying for the 10% off for two discount: https://www.amazon.com.au/promotion/psp/A2CMANKJNWYXRC?ref=p…

    AX1500 wifi router for instance @ $69: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0C4SN9V5K?m=ANEGB3WVEVKZB&ref=…

    • Stupid Q but the AX1500, is it significantly better than the NetComm NF18 Mesh VDSL/ADSL2+ Wi-Fi 5 Dual Band AC1600 Modem Router with VoIP?

      • +1

        TP-Link AX1500

        Wi-Fi Standard: Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
Speed: Up to 1.5 Gbps (1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz)
        Processor: 1.5 GHz tri-core processor

Features: OFDMA, MU-MIMO, Beamforming, Target Wake Time (TWT) for reduced power consumption, TP-Link Tether app for easy setup and management
Ports: 4 Gigabit LAN ports, 1 WAN port
        Security: WPA3, WPA2, WPA, WPS
Compatibility: Backward compatible with all previous 802.11 standards12

NetComm NF18 Mesh VDSL/ADSL2+ Wi-Fi 5 Dual Band AC1600 Modem Router with VoIP

        Wi-Fi Standard: Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)
Speed: Up to 1.6 Gbps (AC1600)
        Processor: Not specified
        Antennas: Internal antennas
Features: VDSL2/ADSL2+ support, VoIP for HD quality voice calls (connect up to 2 phones), Mesh capability, parental controls, guest Wi-Fi
Ports: 4 Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, 1 Gigabit Ethernet WAN port
        Security: WPA2, WPA
Compatibility: Compatible with FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, and FTTH345

        Key Differences

Wi-Fi Standard: The TP-Link AX1500 uses the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology, offering better performance and efficiency, while the NetComm NF18 uses Wi-Fi 5.

Speed: Both routers offer similar speeds, but the TP-Link AX1500 has a slight edge with its Wi-Fi 6 capabilities.

Features: The TP-Link AX1500 includes advanced features like OFDMA and TWT, which are not present in the NetComm NF18. However, the NetComm NF18 supports VDSL2/ADSL2+ and VoIP, making it more versatile for certain internet connections.

Antennas: The TP-Link AX1500 has external antennas, which can provide better coverage compared to the internal antennas of the NetComm NF18.

Security: The TP-Link AX1500 supports the latest WPA3 security standard, while the NetComm NF18 supports WPA2.

Something to also add, buy 2 or more (I could only buy Max of 3) and get 10%.

    Bought 3 for $116.10

  • +1

The 9 port poe+ is $36 on Amazon

Edit: nevermind the 9 post ls109p is only 100 Mbps

    • Yeah it's mislabelled there. Check the image and description and it says 100mbps. Someone's gonna get caught out :(

      • +2

Yeah I always go back the manufacturer to confirm specs. Amazon is terrible with this stuff.

  • Can I fry anything if I connect a non-PoE item to a PoE port?

    • +3

      no

      • +1

Unless it's a passive PoE switch.

  • +4

Unfortunately every item is out of stock for me in WA. Amazon's big warehouse they built last year south of Perth must sit empty all year. A majority of the items they sell are unavailable or out of stock. The other one is "this is unavailable to ship to your location" for common grocery items. Might look to cancel Prime. Not sure what the deal is. Seems strange that more items used to be available for delivery when they didnt have this warehouse.

    • +2

Try changing your postcode to something like Sydney (2000) and it will magically be available. Amazon is selectively choosing who they're willing to sell products to based on postcode.

      • Have tried workarounds. When you get to checkout it wont let it go through. Has now changed to "This item does not ship to your location" for most items (the gigabit ones). Makes no sense.

      • +2

I get this with a lot of items with Darwin metro post codes. Obviously they're not making enough money so we get stooged.

    • +1

Works fine for me, and I'm in Perth metro. Maybe your address is typed in slightly wrong or something? Or maybe your address is flagged as "rural" or something (even if you are on the fringe, at a place like Yanchep for example).

      • +2

Yeah we are considered rural. They will ship some of the 10/100 items here, but not the gigabit ones. Just makes no sense, as the seller is Amazon for all. Box size and weight would be similar. For example of the top 100 grocery best sellers, only 10 are available. All of the others have "x offers from $x". Pretty sure its just settings that have been messed up. Even when theyve set minimum quantities (that were never required in the past) still wont ship.

        • can you ship to a parcel locker and then pick up from there?

        • What did Amazon say when you spoke to them?

          • +1

@endotherm: Keep an eye on the items. They raised a note in their system. No guarantee that anything will change. It hasn't. Have cancelled my prime subscription. They've basically made a decision (about 6 to 12 months ago) to screw anyone that doesn't live in the metro areas of Australia.

    • Its because you are outside their metro delivery area. I have the same in VIC Regional area, so I get it shipped to my sister's place in a Metro area.

    • +1

Same here in regional VIC. Half the stuff I would like to buy from Amazon they refuse to ship here any more, even stuff I purchased 6 months ago has moved onto the banned list. Getting to the point where I probably won't bother with Prime next time it is up for renewal.

      • I think they changed couriers. I used to get Toll who had a BIG van. Now I get codexpress with a guy in his car. So unless its a small cardboard box, I cannot get it.

      • +1

Won't ship to 3909 either. Will be cancelling Prime next month. Waste of money Amazon.

    • I'm Perth metro and quite often I'll be looking at a few different of a certain type of item and all of them turn out to be unavailable quickly or Prime.

Couple of weeks later, wham, some are available next day (presumably from Perth).

  • +2

I have this exact switch powering four cameras, a wifi access point, and a Zigbee coordinator. No complaints.

  • Last round with extra 15% but same price for the non PoE version
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/885018

  • Would anyone if this works if used within a unifi setup?

    • +1

Yes. I am using two of these for some cameras, they just don't show in the topology.

      • Thanks! These are way cheaper than the $200 poe switch they have

        • 100%. I use a Mini Flex switch instead and then add these in where I need them.

    • +1

      Not POE though.

      • so this is better for people that don't have security cameras correct?

        • +1

POE isn't just for cameras, could be for Access Points. So if you do not require POE, sure, they are find. I am seeing a more APs not coming with POE adaptors, so end up using a POE switch instead since most injectors are like $20 each.

      • -3

        BuT nOt EvErYoNe NeEdS pOe

  • +1

I bought one just in case I ever need POE……. because I'm insane.

    • +1

Always handy, I am seeing a more APs not coming with POE adaptors, so end up using a POE switch instead since most injectors are like $20 each.

  • Question for unmanaged switch, do clients and APs connected to the unmanaged switch still show up in unifi controller?

    • in a basic setup yeah, if it works with a PoE injector it'll work with this. If you're running tagged vlans or something I believe some unmanaged switches can have issues

    • Probably. But just get yourself a unifi switch

      • Unifi switches are so incredibly pricey

        • POE ones are, yes. But a mini flex isn't. I've got my POE cameras plugged into a TP Link Switch and then into a Mini Flex. I can then see the cameras/devices in that mini flex port.

    • Yes, it will but the switch won't show up in the topology or anything.

  • $56 for a dlink managed poe

    https://amzn.asia/d/b6oHk7R

    • +1

That D link isn't actually poe btw. Assuming the photos aren't wrong, it's only rated for 5 watts which isn't poe. Just a heads up.

    • It was a listing error (title of the listing is incorrect, not matching photos and description). Confirmed by OZB user Forgot69. You may need to scroll down to find his comment:

Had to be too good to be true. Received the DGS-1100-08V2 (without PoE), not the DGS-1100-08PV2 (with PoE), as detailed in the description.

  • +1

Great little switch. Compact, quiet, cool. Does what it says on the tin. Plugged everything in including the Unifi AP and everything works out of the box. Note that I only have one or two PoE devices at the moment so it could get hotter if 4+ PoE devices are in use.
