Derrimut Gym No Longer 24/7 in SA & VIC. False Advertising?

Effective 3rd Of March 2025, Derrimut Gym, known for it's 24/7 speciality is no Longer 24/7 in SA & VIC.

What are your thoughts on this? Felt like they had massive sales last year to get more cash revenue, just for them to put out email for existing members here.

Their email states the following:

We're reaching out to inform you that effective from Monday the 3rd of March 2025, we will be updating our gym's operating hours.

The new hours will be as followed:
Monday to Friday: 6am - 10pm
Saturday & Sunday: 8am - 5pm

Is this.. false advertising? Illegal? What are your takes on this?

Title and email contradict each other. Your forum post is false advertising.

      Aren't they the owners?

At this rate, I'd be surprised if they're around in 6 months, circling the drain

There's still plenty of money in the steroid trade which I thought was the main reason they pretended to run gyms.

  • been going to this gym for 10 years now the only time i can remember it being 'closed' was when they were forced to close during COVID

i think the 10pm and 5pm close times are 'way' to early

The weekend 8am open time is too late for a lot of members

doesnt bother me too much but you will lose members as i have been in the morning a few times and it is legit packed at 6am which means people are getting there before 6am

  • Is this for all Derrimut gym’s or just the Melrose only?

    • +1

OP's comment is misleading, the change is only applied for Melrose

7Eleven is open longer than 7am to 11pm. That’s misleading too

Why do they have locks on their doors if they never shut?

      • +2

To lock people in and make them buy a hotdog

  • I remember when Doherty's did the same thing in Melbourne CBD. Left the sign up out the front that said "We never close" which was funny and mildly annoying.

I'd be ok with it not being truly 24 hours, but I feel those hours are too restrictive and I'd look for a different gym.

  • Imagine the law suits during covid if 'false advertising' was a thing..

    Pro tip, adapt.
    H-hm, flex?
This is NOT that 'stick your head out the window and scream I'm not going to take it any more moment.'

Pretty sure no government-enforced rules are preventing them from staying open these days champ.

      • NSS, see that word 'imagine'?

        • False advertising is a thing.

Anyone with half a brain can tell it doesn't apply if it becomes illegal to run your business, so I'm not sure what I'm meant to imagine.

@CaptainJack: Well my whole brain tells me >
Pretty sure businesses can change their terms and conditions and pretty sure nobody is taking this to court, and pretty sure if they did, they'd pay costs and lose. The company has already notified affected customers. But hey, force them to stay open 24/7 and when they shut prematurely via cost blow-outs, start a new thread.

@Protractor: Ok, so why didn't you originally write that instead of some irrelevant nonsense about covid.

These changes are only temporary as they transition to a FOB tag entry system, and will revert back to 24-hour access once it's implemented
