Newcastle has a Zinger wrap mixed with Vietnamese and Supercharged sauce (instead of the Zinger Nachos).
$9.95 for unit only, or $13.95 for combo.

Could be dry if right ingredients are not used
The bread will be too soft or stale, instead of the fresh crunchy version you get from real Vietnamese bakeries.
Normally, I would also be curious to try this out, but not at this price. Especially when I can get top quality cheaper banh mi in Sunshine (Fresh Chilli Deli).
I never knew that Sunshine was in the Newcastle area, NSW
Pending nationwide roll out, if the trial is successful.
@thangcuoi: It clearly isn't an authentic top tier banh mi, so I don't know why you are comparing it to one. I don't think it's intended to compete against one either. Not sure we saw people complain about KFC Nachos or KFC HSP being authentic, or that their specific local ethnic joint has a superior product.
At the moment it's a trial and it could very well not succeed or go further, so there's no point getting ahead of yourself.
If it gives another somewhat tasty option at the Dirty Bird, then I'm all for it, especially when there is a Dirty Bird every ~10min drive or less. There's only so many Wicked Wing and Zinger deals that I can eat.
What’s Newcastle got that we don’t ?
Only the biggest KFC in the southern hemisphere
And people say the Hunter region has no culture
I remember reading that a lot of companies like to test their products in Newcastle as it's easier to control and has an isolated environment typical of the national market..
EDIT: Article from SMH
And easy to quarantine ?
True. Leisure and Allied used to do that in the 80s with arcade machines.

KFC Zinger Banh Mi Wraps :)
banh mi is better at vietnamese banh mi
it was called pork roll before they started charging >$10. to make it sound fancy
i only pay for 7- 7.5 :P
Up from ~$4.5 from slightly further back
@drezy: Just funny that it feels like it was $4 locally seemingly forever before all of a sudden nearly doubling everywhere to $7+ (disregarding the ridiculous $10 outliers lol), like that old adage about bankruptcy being 'slowly at first then all at once'. Good ol' 8% inflation really did a number on food eh.
I've been eating them from Sunshine and St Albans my entire life, I've never called them a Pork roll until they became the new "in" thing and i still refuse to.
How do you differentiate from the traditional "mystery meat" bahn mi to say chicken or dimsum variants?
It was called a pork roll to accommodate a population that didn't speak or read Vietnamese.
Being exposed to other cultures and learning their language is a good thing!
This is a disgrace, $10 for a banh mi
I'd prefer the nachos. ;)
feliz navidad
I might have to drive to lake haven.
Prices of Banh Mi has been creeping up in recent years, some nearing/over $10 now…
chuc man nam moi
nearing? I paid $16 for one in Warringah Mall (NSW) the other day. But that's on me :(
in perth you can easily fork out 10-12 for one
Around $7 in morley and they're great mate
A good banh mi is absolutely worth $10, considering the prices that people pay for a sandwich or focaccia at a cafe.
$10 for a banh mi
Pretty normal these days, $9-12 is the normal.

@pegaxs I know u love a good banh mi mate
but this isn't
Lol.
If it wasn't made in the Banh Mi region…. :D
THIS IS NOT THE BANH MI OF MY PEOPLE.
I agree. It just isn’t the same unless it’s served up by a mature aged Vietnamese lady with some perfectly tattooed eyebrows and you feel obligated to always say yes when she ask do you want extra chilli.
Fish sauce mate. But no, fish sauce isnt used in Banh Mi
@jjjones: Nah, we do use fish sauce. Shredded pork skin roll must have fish sauce, soy sauce does not work in this case. BBQ pork roll is good with fish sauce as well. Try next time.
I feel more obligated constantly looking what she's putting in my pork roll, will she exclude what I told her and same for what i said to include. Ah, those ladies, frustrating.
They're trying to get rid of you. They can't be bothered with your order when they're going to run out of pork by end of day anyway
Username checks out.
As a Vietnamese, this offends me.
Non-Vietnamese Asian. Curious what KFC has decided to call "Vietnamese Sauce".
As a not Vietnamese, I'm also offended
Do they offer extra coriander?
From the photo, it looks like they just used the Crunchy Slaw instead of the properly Picked Carrot and Cucumber. No chance for coriander or fresh chilli.
It has coriander, chilli and cucumber on it, they call it banh mi slaw, im thinking of getting a couple for lunch
Please report back once you have had it. Would love to get a few opinions from fellow OzBargainers.
@thangcuoi: I had it, my review is below, they didnt make it properly, i might get another one from a different store tomorrow and compare, it was tasty, but not made right
What's "Vietnamese sauce"?
Tomato sauce = sauce made of tomatoes.
Sauce made of Vietnamese?
Cream of sum yung gai?
It's you, Sum Ting Wong.
unzips
Oh hell nahh, get jv in here to deal with this
Actually there is nothing officially called “Vietnamese Sauce”.
Maybe they should hire a Vietnamese to do the write up.
Photo reminds me of the old strip sub from Red Rooster.
i must be very tired, but i initially read that as 'old strip club red rooster' and imagined basically hOOters, but with red rooster.
rOOsters?
Dangerous path KFC, could go either way. Anyone tried it yet and can review?
Troi oi
Ah duuuu
This does not look like a banh mi at all. Although, I'd be curious to try it if they bring it to Brisbane.
It actually doesn't look too bad as a sub but definitely wouldn't call it a Banh Mi.
(A banh mi thit is a sub)
Besides the bread (maybe) nothing about this is banh mi….
What about this is a banhmi.
The bread (the worst part)?
Does it have butter? Patté? Pickled carrots? (The best parts that isn't the meat)
Supercharged Vietnamese
U ban mi, I ban u.
I do not understand why people like bánh mỳ so much. I am Vietnamese and it’s not even on my top 10 list of things I want to eat in Australia. If I go to Viet Nam it’s not even in my dictionary.
I understand bro, just like not every males interested in female
It's cheap, it's salty+spicy+sweet+umami, and most importantly, it has a IYKYK factor that makes people feel like they're in a secret club that knows the good shit.
Just got 2 from Bennetts Green store, they were not made properly so i can't give a proper review, they had almost no slaw on them, one had zero chilli on it, the other had 1 piece, both had no cucumber and very minimal coriander, it did have a slight fish sauce taste, if they were made like the picture, they actually would of been pretty tasty, still good, but classic case of fast food let down by the food not being put together properly
Why is this specific to Newcastle? Does it have a large Vietnamese community?
They actually have a decent number of good banh mi joints in Newie. Pho is terrible though.
But it's probably because it's close enough to Sydney for the head office to keep an eye on closely, but far enough to be it's own market. And with a large enough population as well. Also by keeping it to 1 area, they can deny it ever existed if it is terrible.
Wait until Uncle Roger reviews this. Some can tag this to his channel?
aiyah
It could be fuiyoh, you never know.
How about Zinger HSP?
i think it WAS a thing but very briefly during the height of HSP hysteria some years ago
I want the russeats review.
Because they gotta be taking the piss.
This is sacrilege!
But I am also very keen to try it.
