  • There is only much more expensive models on the website/catalogue. I'm guessing you saw this in a QLD store but did not record the model numbers? And there was identically priced, identically sized models from LG and Samsung?

There is not really enough information provided for this to be useful, sorry.

check out the catalog for the ad/details

      • This Samsung one is only 1000rpm, the other deal is 1200rpm.

      • fair enough, I followed your link and thought it was to the catalogue but it was just the website. Perhaps linking to http://www.rtedwards.com.au/latest-catalogues/ would have been a bit better.

  • are front loading the thing now?

prolly cause they save water by using a 4 hour wash cycle :)

      Deep breath…

IMO Front Loaders have always been superior to Top Loaders in nearly every way. They use less Water & Energy but also look after your clothes a lot better and clean better too. The main difference being that a Front Loader 'tumbles' the clothes rubbing them together versus a Top Loader that mainly uses the hard plastic agitator to rub the dirt out and that wears fabric out faster. Front Loaders seem to keep balance better than Top Loaders during the spin cycle too… but I'm not sure why because my little brain would think it would go the other way but I'm typing from experience here. You can also stack a Front Loader & Dryer or neatly sit them side-by-side under a benchtop making them a lot more flexible than trying to squeeze a monster Top Loader into a Small Laundry as well as a Dryer. You could even do what the Euros do and line them up in your Kitchen next to your dishwasher!

The only downsides to Front Loaders I can tell is that they can't do a crazy super-fast wash as well as a Top Loader (because they don't have the hard plastic agitator to rip the dirt out) plus if you buy a cheaper machine you'll find that you can't stop it half-way to add or remove something without draining all the water first. Also, the rubber bellow that joins the outside box to the inside drum can fail after several years and they can be costly to replace.

I imagine these $400 machines would be pretty good for the money however if you want a decent machine be sure to have a look at the ASKOs. They are $1000+ but they measure the water just enough to get the load wet enough to wash effectively but still lets you open the door part way through with only a very short burst of drainage (I'm talking about a cup or two of water here) plus they don't use the bellow system so there's nothing much to wear out. I love our ASKO, it's now 13 years old and still looks & works like a brand new machine. My wife put her Wedding Dress into it 10+ years ago before she put it away for storage and it washed it beautifully! We were so impressed we now have an ASKO Condenser Dryer and an ASKO Dishwasher too but yeah, Front Loaders are the way to go IMO.

Spend some extra bit of cash and get a decent brand. You'll be lucky to have these last for 5 years without failure.

  • Harvey Norman Bundall has priced matched the LG front loader for $398 and would not give another cent off, also they had the samsung WF1752 for $472 - $75 cashback

Domain said that they could not match the price, as both were below cost
