Change of Energy Plans - Feb 2024

Hi All,

I’m in NSW and been a long time customer of Energy Australia but got an email that my 13% bill discounts are going away and from 7c to 5c Solar buy back.

I’m here to seek help in getting a bargain on my energy bills. I would like to see daily solar inputs and buy backs on a daily basis like Energy Australia App.

Electricity With Energy Australia:
Flexi plan before GST
$0.374077 per kWh
$1.032900 per day
5c solar buy back

Gas with GloBird: before GST
Gas Daily Charge $0.61600
Gas Usage Summer - Step 1 $0.04455
Gas Usage Summer - Step 2 $0.03630

I can't help you with 2024 but you could try energymade easy government website for 2025
    https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/
    .

The worst site which doesn’t take into any discounts or plans that the company advertises

      • +3

        Try wattever.com.au

      • It does. There's a toggle that where you can select price with or without discounts.

  • my elec is with AGL its
    30.61 per kwh
    88.12 c per day
    5c fit

    my gas with AGL its
    first 7500mj 3.87c / mj
    next 7440 mj 2.87c / mj
    next 18000 mj 2.79c / mj
    daily supply 58.31

    hope this helps
looking at the rates agl has now, they are less than what you pay

    • Rates are dependent on which network you're on, it'll vary between suppliers depending on whether you're on Ausgrid/Endevour/Essential.

    • I get 13% discount on the bill do you get any discounts? Mine with discounts gets the rates cheaper.
How do I sign up on a deal as AGL had joining credits etc?

      • Mate, not sure where you live but your rates suck, I suggest you review your math skills and learn to do away with percentage discounts to keep yourself in the loop. For reference I'm on 26c and 86c daily charge. Almost all the retailers are moving away with percentage discount already, only dinosaurs still stick to it and their rates has never been competitive.

        • Is it with GST? Which energy retailer are you with?
Yes I should do a better math.

          • @justanick: Origin, that price is inclusive of gst. But with origin usually you have to be with them first and quit then they offer you better rates.

Don't forget to send a thank-you note to Chris Bowen for your soaring energy costs, which are only going to increase further

Switch to Engie for $400 in bill credit ($200 electricity, $200 gas), haven't paid an electricity bill higher than $50 in 8 months by rotating between providers, although the music will stop eventually.

    • What are the rates?

      • +1

Doesn't matter, who cares what they charge if you're not paying it?

When the credit runs out, go somewhere else like Powershop: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/867116

Rinse and repeat until you run out of providers, then find the best rates.

    • I haven't paid for elec for nearly 1 year.

      • Wow!! Which retailer are you with? Is it with solar?

  • With the government grants even if we switch providers can they track us with the rebates? For example we got two $75 credits but if we switch does it automatically get moved to the new provider?

    • It depends when they pay the rebate out. I got a $75 rebate in Jan(?) from powershop, i was on EnergyAustralia before that. I switched in mid-december. As long as the providers timings for the $75 rebates line up you should be good.

      • So there’s a chance I could just miss out on the rebate if I switch providers? I hope the government planned for this?

        • I've had sumo hold onto a rebate and not say anything after I switched. Also had accounts with red energy and momentum about $10 in the positive and they didn't mention it. Had to log on to old accounts once I realised and chase them about it

Kinda scummy compared to health insurance where they mail a check after churning

    • we got two $75 credits but if we switch does it automatically get moved to the new provider?

If you change electricity providers and your account is in credit when you leave then you have to ask for the credit to be refunded to your bank account. I did this with AGL when I switched to Engie.

So there’s a chance I could just miss out on the rebate if I switch providers? I hope the government planned for this?

You won't miss out on any rebates.

have you looked on https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au ?

I replied to the one of the responses above.
That site is rubbish with no current or deals. For example if there’s a new promotion of getting $200 to sign up with Energy Australia then it’s not there.

      • It actually is but whatever.

      • As I also replied to you above, it actually CAN show you price after discounts. The only thing it doesn't capture is cashback.

  • How is Sumo Assure company? I’m getting 8c for solar and charges are not bad. The next in line is Red Energy never heard of them both.

  • I put an old banana in the freezer. Does that use a lot of electricity?

  • How do we get around the disgusting demand peak charge when swapping retailers if already on a smart metre?

  • You don't go after solar FiT anymore. With solar, you save by shifting your main usage to during solar time e.g. put washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, hot water etc. to mid day, usually by timer/delay function on the appliances. For example I switched to heat pump hot water over a year ago (Dec 23) for $700 after rebates for an Aquatech X8 and that basically already break even because I set the timer to turn on mid day and midnight (I have EV plan with cheap $0.08/kWh midnight), never run out of hot water for net zero electricity cost.

    • Thanks Ive got Gas for hot water. My only usage is turning on aircon at night. I produce a lot of solar but that’s a mere 5c.

      • Maybe preheat/precool your house during the day for free? Aircon typically run at max during the first 30 mins - 1 hour and after that will consume a lot less to maintain temp.

  • I’m still confused is Sumo or Red good or very bad? Do they have a way to see my energy metre online or in the app?

The third option is Origin Energy they always give some huge upfront joining fees or some perks. Is there a deal going on?

I found all of these through below. Sumo comes first by a huge margin it’s giving me 8c FiT. No one does that now.
