The Meross smart garage door opener is always popular and here's the updated version that supports up to 3 garage doors and has an external WiFi antenna to provide better connectivity/range than the single door version.

If you use the AliExpress app and have AliExpress Coins, you can get a lower price through the link in this deal than what the desktop and mobile site offers. It works out to be US$33.24 (~A$52.50) with the app/coins/coupons or US$37.24 (~A$58.81) if you go through the desktop site with coins and coupons.

This one is compatible with Apple HomeKit, Siri, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings and Google Assistant. It's worth noting that it only comes with sensors for 2 garage doors and the 3rd needs to be purchased separately.

  • Add Color: AU With Homekit to the cart
  • Apply the coupons OZAA05 and 38NO7WKPFEM6

AU$ based on current Mastercard rate and GST inclusive.

For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

  • Codes don’t work for me :(
    OZAA05 Does nothing

Your order amount, after discounts and excluding shipping fees, doesn't reach the minimum spend requirement for this coupon…

    • Try AFAU05 or AUFF03

  • I bought this for A$56.75 last week but didn’t post as there was only 1 left in stock. I just created a new account to get the newcomer discount.

  • Awesome price for something compatible with homekit! Just need to get the actual motors first lol.

  • +1

Does this fit any electric garage roller door? Or only specific motors?

    • +2

Yes. It operates and connects as the current button operation does. Your only issue will be where to place the close sensor. I chose to buy my own floor sensors screwed to concrete floor (cheap and sturdy option from other suppliers). Works perfectly now with roller doors.

      • Thanks

  • Tried to get one of these going, but I had a bunch of issues with the reliability of the contact sensor. As a renter, we couldn't really make any major modifications to create a more optimal spot for the sensor, so YMMV.

For those who can't reliably run a cabled contact sensor to a good spot in your garage, I would suggest getting the following instead:

    • A button that you can press to open the garage door - we conveniently already had one installed on the wall, but you could also use the one likely built into your garage door unit, or maybe even a cheap-y remote from eBay that just lives in a single place
    • Home Assistant server - turn back now if you don't already have this, as this'll be the biggest cost outlay for those of us without spare mini PCs lying around
    • ZigBee USB dongle - there might be WiFi versions of the products I'm going to mention, but, if you have any other ZigBee kit, this upgrade is worth it for the speed alone
    • Tuya Fingerbot - do not accidentally buy the Bluetooth one (which I did), as then you'll need to set up a Bluetooth Proxy, and a developer account with Tuya, and a whole lot of other garbage just to get that working reliably with your HA server
    • ZigBee door sensor - the benefit here compared to the Meross kit is that you don't need to wire this one up, you just chuck in a couple of batteries and can therefore put it anywhere (we have ours in the corner on the floor, as that's where I was able to get the most repeatable point of contact when the door is closed)

With all of those pieces, I was able to build a toggle in Apple Home (via HomeKit Bridge) that opens and closes the garage door, and also changes on its own when someone opens or closes the garage door via a non-smart method. Getting it to this point is definitely more effort than the Meross kit, but you've also got flexibility to do a lot of really cool automation in this setup.

  • I have a B&D SDO-6V3. Is this compatible?

    • Should be, I had a quick look at the manual but double check by bridging the OSC and GND pins with a bit of wire/paperclip and make sure the door opens and closes on contact

  • Is anyone able to share their experience with these?

I'm keen to buy one but am just concerned with security. Is it easy for someone to hack into these or manipulate the frequency (I'm not actually sure what I'm talking about - just want peace of mind that it's not less secure than being without one. I don't want to sacrifice too much security for convenience)

    • +1

It runs purely over wifi for you to control it, and then hard wires directly into the motor, so as long as your home wifi is secure, as well as the password for App itself or HomeKit etc, depending what you use as the interface, then yeah it is secure.

      • Awesome! Thanks for the reply.

  • Have this since they launched @ kickstarter. Has been amazing.

  • Just a general FYI this 3 door model is more commonly known as the Meross Collie.

  • So does this work on double doors or is it only for singles? The photo in Ali Express says "up to 3 single doors". Didn't think it'd be any different between single vs double

    • It can have 3 sensors installed and there's two included. You can opt to use one.

      • Well I have a double and a single.

So the sensors should work on the double door right? Just find it peculiar that the page specifically mentioned 'up to 3 single doors' as though it's limited to single garage doors only, if it works for both double and single doors

  • Does anyone know if the wifi antenna is removable? Based on reddit, and it not being separated in the "what's in box photo" on Ali, I suspect not.

    • Just checked mine, and the antenna rotates and folds, but doesn't seem to unscrew. Can I ask why you would want to remove it?

      • Thanks for taking the time to check. I'm looking to add it to a detached tin shed without clear line of sight to the part of the house with the wireless AP.

I'd hoped if it was detachable that I might be able to install a better antenna and/or locate it on the exterior of the shed and use an extension cable to keep the main unit dry and closer to the doors.

Other line of attack is wifi repeaters or cat6 to the garage and a new AP - but they're both higher cost and effort.

        • It is just two raw wires running from the main unit itself to the garage motor, supplied around 30cm long, so if you could place the unit externally but sheltered (as it's not waterproof), you could potentially just extend the two plain trigger wires?

          • @Maximum64: 4 wires per door. 2 for operation and 2 for close sensor.
Have done a 20m extension using 2 x 6-core RJ45 telephone cable for 3 doors. Works perfectly and has done so for 2 years now. All joints soldered and shrink wrapped.

        • Thanks both for taking the time with good suggestions. Install site is at relatives' and I hope to survey the signal and relative weather protection very soon.
