Glitz 5L Dishwashing Liquid $13.32 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ OnePass) @ Bunnings

440

Noticed that Bunnings has a price drop going at the moment on the 5l Glitz dishwashing liquid bottles, normally ~$19.

IMO at the sale price this dishwashing liquid is the sweet spot between effectiveness/cost/volume.

this dishwashing liquid is the sweet spot between effectiveness/cost/volume

Aldi Tandil Ultra Concentrate is $3/L and has a 90% Choice rating. You can also buy it in a 900ml bottle which is arguably easier to store/use.

    • I know but it loses out on the volume aspect. You have to balance effectiveness with cost/volume when everyone else in your household uses the same amount whether it's the $1/L Coles liquid or the Aldi Ultra Concentrate. This one works just fine too, haven't found it lacking when doing dishes on spag bol night.

        Coles is $1.50L these days..

      • +1

$3/l is almost what this glitz is selling at and you can buy a bottle of the aldi stuff when you need it/good for infrequent use.

Am not knocking this as for some the ~35cts/L saving is worth it to buy in that bulk size but for me personally I'd rather do a small bottle at a time given I use the dishwasher mainly

        • +1

I just decant into a 500ml bottle (easier to handle than a 1l bottle) and bulk size means less chance of having to run out and buy an expensive bottle from Coles/IGA. I went with the Aldi one for a while because it has such a good rep here but I didn't notice any greater effectiveness over the Glitz, so it might do better on a lab test but for me it's not worth paying extra for.

          • +3

@Cheaplikethebird: Fair enough. I haven't used glitz but if it does the job just as well and at a cheaper unit price then that's what we are here for 👍

    • but are they cheaper than 2.664 /l

    • +1

Exactly! and Aldi also sometimes has Tandil in the 5L size in special buys. I bought that one more than a year ago and still have more than half remaining.

    • I was wondering about Aldi's normal green detergent, in comparison to this. I would think they are similar? Except for price…

    • -1

ALDI recently changed all the Tandil range and changed the scents, it now all Smells disgusting, overpowering chemical scents and the 3L like some flowers and sewage mix im not sure. The last 3L one got was like this some months ago, won't be buying it again. Might try this deal

      • That's the exact ALDI formula nowadays.
Hook ppl, then change the product quality, size, supplier, smell, taste, efficacy etc and/ or all of the above.

When you add the limited range in the first place it's gone from an all your grocery destination to a few of the rare items they have not screwed up.

The too good to be true honeymoon died a predictable death. It's almost like their marketers are scheming with Colesworth

How is the quality compare to Morning Fresh or Palmolive?

    • Same same IME

      • +4

Can't speak for Palmolive but Morning Fresh is shit.

My previous favourite- Fairy, also turned to shit since they moved production to Malaysia. Even lost the British Royal Family logo thingy.

Thank god for Aldi Tandil Ultra. Works well, cheap and made in Australia.

        • Aldi has so many great cost effective stuff it’s mind boggling sometimes

          • +2

@Metre: Even better when it's supporting local jobs without compromising the quality and paying a premium for.

        • Interesting, I wasn't aware of this. I have noticed a reduction in quality in Fairy recently, and was wondering what had happened.

Are you saying Aldi Tandil Ultra is better than Fairy these days?

        • Yeah nah, Morning Fresh is the bizz. Tried most of the similar quality stuff. Even given them multiple chances over time. We get 3 x 900ml bottles of Lemon from Bunnings. Tandil Ultra is OK ( or should I say was. Aldi is always changing shit for the worse) The bulk green stuff Aldi sells on special sales is thinner in my experience.

          • @Protractor: Not a fan of morning fresh. It's ok, but i've found it's no better than the cheapo ones at colesworth

        • Palmolive seems to have lost something. I would give my kitchen benches a wipe with a magic cloth and my dishwashing solution (before washing dishes) to clean up food prep crud and it seems to not do as good a job of it nowadays.

  • +1

    I love this one https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/10432/eart…

I think it's as good as Palmolive and environmental friendly.

    • Yeah I usually go with this one when I'm between bottles and I use one of the 500ml bottle to decant the Glitz into. The Glitz is a little more effective and is also biodegradable.

      • The Earth Choice one is also biodegradable, but less effective as the plant-based surfactants aren't as powerful.

  • I always buy $50 fuel!
    /s

  • Is it suppose to be used in Dishwasher (replacing tablets)? or washing dishes manually?

This stuff is absolute murder on your hands if you have even mildly sensitive skin, my last office bought a bottle for the shared kitchen and it took weeks for my skin to heal, even had to visit my doctor for prescription creams. That bottle sat there unused for like a year+ until it was eventually tossed, after one of the managers brought in a different brand at their own expense, bit of a waste.

Get this instead, cheaper per liter ($2.35/1L) and barely any irritation (unless you're particularly sensitive to Sodium laureth sulfate): https://www.igashop.com.au/product/earth-choice-dishwash-liq…

No point getting a concentrate when everyone uses the same amount of it anyway.

Why didn't you wear gloves? I never wash dishes without gloves on

      • Don't think they had any gloves in the staff kitchen, would have to raid the first-aid supply for them, small company.

Usually just washing out a coffee mug or plastic food container with some detergent on a chux wipe, so a few seconds of contact at most, people would laugh at you for putting on a glove just for that.

At home I use a dish-wand for pots/pans and a dishwasher for everything else, so only rarely have contact with it.

      • +3

I'd rather go bare than use rubber gloves that my colleagues have previously used.

        • +1

          What about when doing dishes?

    • Haven't had that issue personally but I fill a sink to wash dishes. I'm assuming in an office you're applying it directly to the sponge and washing under the tap where the detergent would be less diluted.

      • Yep, would put a few drops on a chux wipe, give it a quick rinse and then hand-wash it, so much more concentrated than soaking.

No idea what ingredients are in it, doesn't say on the website, but haven't had a reaction like that to any other brand I've tried. I even use the Earth Choice one as hand-soap in a pinch without issue, pretty strange.

  • +4

Surprised at the amount of Earths Choice recommendations going on here in the comments I find it utterly useless at everything a dishwashing liquid is supposed to do.

    • Do you wash your dishes in warm water? I've found that all the plant-based detergents I've tried need to be washed at ~50C to actually clean grease, something about ionic vs non-ionic surfactants

      • At that temp. u dont need dishwashing liquid. Temp. and water flow will do the job.

        • You definitely still need dishwashing liquid unless you have a boiling water tap, need like 80C minimum to kill bacteria.

I hope you don't have the same mindset for washing your hands after using the toilet 🤔

    • Same. It doesnt lather well. Find Im constantly having to add more product.

      • +1

You need more dogs (dish-lickers) Pre clean bruh.
        (lol)

    • Earth Choice gets the worst reviews in Choice tests and others, I used to use it and it was pretty sad, you need to use so much for greasy stuff

      • No it doesn't, they literally have it up as one of their 'Best Buys': https://www.choice.com.au/products/home-and-living/kitchen/d…

Works great in hot water, absolutely sucks in warm/cold water.

        • they literally have it up as one of their 'Best Buys'

That's only because it costs less than 30 cents per 100ml:

Best Buys […] Products must have a CHOICE Expert Rating of at least 70% and cost 30 cents or under per 100mL.

It is not in their "recommended product" list.

          • @bio: I suppose you either like their methodology and it's a sound point, or you dislike their methodology and it's a moot point.

I've tried two different aldi ones and they were garbage, poor job cleaning greasy pans and worse for skin, so no idea why they're ranked highly.

  • I miss good 'ol Unamat at $1/L. Every ozbargainer should be in mourning.

  • thanks OP got 6 bottles. Plenty in Cannington WA
