[QLD] 7kW 240V Single Phase Autel Maxicharger EV Wall Charger $434.50 (was $1098.90) in-Store Only @ Burson Auto Parts

642

I have owned an EV for about 4 months (highly recommend) and have happily used the supplied granny charger, while keeping an eye out for a deal on a 7kW wall charger. This Autel Maxicharger came up in an EV group I am in and I could hardly believe it, until I went into the shop today and they confirmed it, so I purchased on the spot. No online retail store for Burson so you have to go in to your local shop or call. The deal is in their current sale emailed to members. Part number is MAXI7. Store said they had a good supply but the staff in store had no idea they even sold these until looking it up.

Is priced over $1000 everywhere else and gets good reviews (this is the full model, not the Lite). The brand is much more common in Europe and USA but willing to take a chance at this price. Minimal fancy stuff (like solar control) and only a 5m cable are the only cons I can see.

  • Can't seem to find any specs/real info on this charger, anyone got a link? Tried searching the MAXI7 part number etc but not much coming up. Anyone know if Burson's doing a special price on a 3-phase version too?

https://www.solarchoice.net.au/products/ev-chargers/autel/ Can see some basic specs here and assuming matching the pictures it is the RHS column…unclear if Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ethernet & 4G are optional extras via an upgrade/module?

On the fence about whether to get the Tesla 3-phase charger (not really much point given Tesla is limited to 11kw) vs just living with a UMC as I would plan to get that anyway for travelling, and a 32A socket for home (as mentioned above)!

    • The link mentions IP54, which makes this not suitable for outside in the rain. This could be a deal breaker for some

    • I asked them about the 3 phase 22kW model, they have it in stock (in Queensland) but it is not on special.

      • Have you checked the classifieds for any Bunnings price error changes of mind?

      • which car supports 22kw atm in market? isn't it a over kill

        • +1

I think the Taycan charges at 22kW.
The other benefit of a 22kW charger is it can charge both 7kW and 11kW as well.

          • +2

@repeat: Agree, but if Ilu own a taycan, I shouldn't be on ozbargain 😜

        • Renault Zoe as well for some reason

  • Will this work with MG Xpower ?

    • Yes.

    • +1

      The xpower cars are amazing.
I just wish they could have added the 11kW charging like the essence 77 though.

  • Is it easy to become a member to save additional $35.5?

    • +3

they listed price in the image is ex gst. after factor in the GST is 434.50

      • Thanks.

  • -1

How does this compare to other cheap chargers?

I just got a Kona EV, capable of 11kw AC.

    • +1

Do you have 3 phase power? If not, 7kW is about as fast as you are going to go anyway.

    • didn't know kona supports 11kw, only few BYD cars support 11kw

  • +2

This charger is Australian made, and its the same price after you stack the 5% off email code.

    https://evpowerlabs.com.au/collections/wall-mount-ev-charger…

    • Dun think its fair u got negged for providing a local alternative.

    • +2

That charger isn't Australian made, looks Chinese made. There is only one company in Australia that makes chargers here that I know of.

    • +1

Not Australian made. Rebaged AliBaba, ~$150. Nowhere on their website does it state they make them in Australia, so please be careful.

  • Will these chargers work with solar panels installed later on - e.g. can I charge the EV with this instead of exporting excess solar power generation during the day?

I am moving into a new house next month with 3 phase power, an EV that charges at 7kW, and intend to install 10-12kW of solar panels in 3-6 months time.

Also, can the general public buy these - I tried calling a store and they were asking where the price info was coming from and suggested it would be unlikely I could buy one at that price without more information.

    • If you have 3 phase solar I would splash out on a 3 phase charger to future proof. It is likely your next car will utilise it. At very least run the cabling.

You can also buy an energy meter ($40 on AliExpress or $80 on Amazon) to connect to a unit like this to prioritise solar energy. Personally I like to plug in the car and schedule to run from 8-4 using solar if I can but paying if needed. It would irritate me more for the car not to charge than to pay a little more to only use solar.

    • +1

You can buy 'solar aware' chargers, that will monitor your excess solar and restrict the cars charging limit to that amount to avoid pulling from the grid (or feeding solar back to the grid).

However they tend to be a bit more expensive. In my opinion, just get a cheaper 'dumb' charger and use it during sunlight hours (like how you might only run your washing machine when solar is producing). It won't perfectly match your excess solar of course, but wouldn't be far off. I doubt you would make the extra money back on the solar aware chargers when a dumb charger can get you 90% of the way there anyway.

  • yeah I have 3 phase power system and I use the tesla 22kw 32 amp gen 3 wall charger I get 12kw on my model 3 no problems. it costed me about 1500 AUD all up to get the unit and also have it installed by an electrician. Not sure if this one has a 3 phase support?

  • So, for those in the know, what would be the difference between this one and a 32 amp cable? I can get a 32amp 11KW cable (vs this one which is 7kw) from BMW for about $250 (installation quoted around $500) and it charges from 0-80% in about 5 hrs. Which one would be a better option?

    • +1

You need something to plug the cable into - which is what this product is. The 32A cable alone will be useless. Typically those cables are used for public AC charging stations that are untethered (BYO cable). Most home chargers have a cable tethered to them, though some allow a separate cable to be plugged in.

      • Apologies.. should've been clearer. The installation includes "To supply and install the outlet and a new circuit back to the switch board including new circuit protection ". So, with the outlet installed, would the 11kw cable for circa $250 be a better option?

        • +1

Are you talking about an installation quote you have received?

What exactly are they quoting? It sounds like they might be quoting on running a new circuit (with RCBO) and terminating it in an outlet (32A, 15A….whatever it is they are quoting you for). You can't just plug an EV cable into an outlet - there is a device called an 'EVSE' that sits in the middle - that's what this deal is about. An EVSE is commonly referred to as a charger (but technically that's not accurate), and it is responsible for safely supplying power to your vehicle.

So in a nutshell, you need an EVSE in one way or another. Some EVSE's will have built-in cables, and some will have a socket for you to BYO cable. The EVSE can be hardwired, or plugged into an outlet.

          • @loksmack: Thanks for explaining this, I always wondered as I hear the EV has its own AC charger on board, why we don’t just need a cord…but this explains it

            • +1

              @dammit: No worries.

The EVSE is basically just a fancy switch. It doesn’t ‘do’ anything to the electricity coming out of the wall, it just makes sure that the car will be happy with what it receives.

There’s an awesome YouTube video that explains how they work. I would highly recommend checking it out:
              https://youtu.be/RMxB7zA-e4Y?si=q9GC70c9yQHyWQGg

        • Here's a photo of my installed device.

What you're describing sounds more like what loksmack mentioned, and is missing the device between circuit, wall socket & the car…

          https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/23461/119871/img_1105_…

          • @xuqi: Does it have wifi Bluetooth Ethernet etc straight out of the box?

            • @dammit: Yes, also updates firmware via mobile app over Bluetooth.

    • I don't' think it matters if you are like me and your charge over night 7kw is fine as long as you can complete your charge cycle over night, not sure if BMW has automated charging schedules you can set. But my model 3 will charge only between 12am and 6am every day because I get 8c per kw charging during this time.

never think about charging you just do what you need to do during the day plug in when you go home and by morning you are always at 100% ready to go about your day.

Can I simply walk into my local Bursons Auto Parts, and ask for the Ozbargain price?

    • +1

Just ask for the current sale price on this item. It’s their general sale price.

  • @Bingaro I rang my local store and they told me they were unaware of it being on sale and the system was showing it priced at $999.
Any other info/details you could provide? Or the actual email?

    • What state? QLD has 100 in warehouse at 395+GST as its a clearance product.

  • Just called my local Burson, they said it's not on sale, it's $999. Not sure about this post…

    • What state? QLD has 100 in warehouse at 395+GST as its a clearance product.

  • I went to my local Bursons and they said it is $999 for that item

    • What state? QLD has 100 in warehouse at 395+GST as its a clearance product.

      • How did you come to know stock levels out of curiosity? I went to my local Bursons (Gympie QLD) this AM and was informed that there are “zero in the country”. Would be great if I could help them find one!

  • Is there an untethered version? I need a longer cable…

  • Has anyone successfully purchased at this price in VIC? I've called 5 stores, none know of this sale price… Thanks

    • Yes… i ordered from Bursons Moorabbin on Monday… and i just picked it up today.
They have no stock in Vic.. it all has to be shipped from QLD.

The part no. is MAXI7 in their system.
They also told me initiall it only shows up at full retail, but once its received in stock the sale price shows. Just ring, order and and email them the sale price image above.

    • I've got one pending. Some of the stores have managed to ship a few down. The only one left you might still have luck with is Eltham.

    Hi all,

This is the invoice for those needing evidence for the Burson stores. The team in Albion, Brisbane had to do some searching but supposedly it has a different price under the Clearance section to the regular section. Hope this helps … it is in the member email as the original image with the sale running until 31st of March (until sold out).

Local Bursons said that it isn't available for them in Vic, doesn't appear in the clearance section.

  • not meaning to hijack but I think this one from Bunnings online is a better buy (I bought it). mainstream brand with 3 year onsite warranty, app function as well.

yes you need to buy a separate cable but for a slightly higher overall cost I think its a better unit.

Just was in the EV group and they have said there is no stock in Victoria or NSW but 99 as of this morning in Queensland. Northern NSW has been able to order from QLD. I will update the title.

Just ordered the Autel EV charger through Cairns Bursons (part number: MAXI7) for $395 ex GST, and the price was honoured! Delivery/collection is expected next week. The staff member was a bit vague but mentioned that I would receive a phone call when it arrives. When asked about having an account with them, I just mentioned my brother's account.

Definitely recommend speaking to Jaime at Cairns Bursons – he's an EV user and just as stoked about the pricing as we are. Thanks to OzBargain for the heads-up!

I just ordered one in WA. Took them a few minutes to figure out what I was talking about but it will apparently arrive next week sometime.

So after doing some research (and talking with my Electrician) if you want to spend another $70 (from amazon.com.au or cheaper from Ali express) you can get an energy meter (SDM230 Modbus RS485) or similar, and connect it to the Autel Maxi to make it solar enabled and load balanced. Seems like a good deal to me. Sparky adding an extra $50 for that. So for a PV enabled wall charger I am now in $434 for the charger, $71 for the smart meter, and $350 for the installation .. .$855 in total. I had originally budgeted $2k for that setup!

Please do not take my word for the above for your circumstance, speak to your own electrician!

    • Sounds interesting. Can you point me to a website for more info? Thanks

    • Would you happen to be in BNE? If you are, could you DM me your sparky's contact?

Been trying to look for a sparky to install either a wall unit or a 3 pin single phase 32a powerpoint… Only one who got back to me quoted $1700…

  • Just managed to pick a unit up today, had to call at 9am this morning to reserve one. I picked it up at 3pm, was told by the store rep that units will be reserved first come first serve, and there is limited stock in QLD.

  • Looks like QLD only. In NSW they were saying $1500 or $1k trade price and that was some mechanic member special or something.

  • Thanks for the deal. Picked up today in NSW, total cost was $456.50 including $22 freight from Qld.

The charger is very well packaged and looks quite solid.
    Includes 2x RFID cards.
With the weight of the unit and having the integrated holster, I think it will be important to mount it securely.

    • @repeat did you get a NSW store to order it for you from a QLD store or are you saying you ordered direct from a QLD store?
      Thanks

      • I went into a NSW store on Monday, they said stock was in Qld and said it would be available to pick up by Friday.
Contacted by the store on Thursday to let me know it was available to pick up, picked it up and was charged freight.

  • Does this have an App so you can use this to sell electricity to other ev owners? My dad's house is the last house in a street of high rise units. He was sold way too much solar panels than he needs , so he asked me if he can charge apartment dwellers to use an ev chager. Anybody here sell electricity to ev owners? What App & charger do you recommend.

  • +1

This charger comes with RFID cards and you can buy more. That can track usage by card so you could charge regular users by creating a usage bill. Would think getting an energy meter is definitely the way to go in that case to ensure others are using free solar, rather than expensive peak grid power.
