Samsung 64" 3D Plasma TV (PS64E550D1M) - $1450.00 Cash Deal from Harvey Norman

550

Went to get a better deal on the LG 60MP6700 advertised at JB for $1196 and Good Guys now for $1195.
Couldn't get it for the $1200 'inc extra glasses' I was hoping for, and both were out of stock anyway!
Went to HN (Frankston) and likewise, no stock, so I thought I'd try get a bit off of the $1696 asking price for the Samsung (advertised at GG for $1597). I offered cash on the spot and he came back to me with $1450.oo!
Obviously there's still enough room for them to move on this product.
Good luck, go do your worst, see what you can get!!!

Ps. Obviously I have removed most personal info from the receipt!

Mod: OP requests receipt be removed as HN sales rep states this was a one off price.

  • Mate of mine managed to get it for $1450 from Videopro in Mt Gravatt QLD, though they'd only do it if he bought extended warranty for $179. He tried HN and GG but got flat out rejected.

though they'd only do it if he bought extended warranty for $179

      Which is virtually useless.

  • Can somebody pls post the reciept or else not much hope of repli, ating the deal. Thanks.

    • mkapadia, start a pm with me and i can email you the receipt,

  • snoop any chance we could get a link to the reciept hosted on a different website?

  • How are you finding the TV?

  • Well, If it's dark, I normally turn the light on, grab the remote, turn the TV on, then turn the light back off again! ;)
But seriously, I have couple of concerns:
Firstly, the TVs lag and/or inability to do anything for the first 5-10 seconds when you first switch it on can be annoying if you want to flick channels straight away.
The TV guide seems to only update a channel's guide when you have physically been on that channel.
Compressed video files tend to exaggerate the blockiness in dark colours a lot more than my 46" LCD. Although this screen is obviously a lot bigger and I haven't really played with the settings enough yet! And I did say compressed!!!
But the only real issue I have with it is the audible buzzing. It's barely noticeable in almost any position or height in the room except for exactly where our couch is located! I know that it's part and parcel with a plasma, and I will be hanging this on the wall, but this is just a little beyond tolerance when placed at sitting eye level. So I am planning on getting Samsung to have a look/listen!
Apart from that, couldn't ask for better! It's huge, looks great in HD, has some fantastic features and apps, and the 3D is that new worldwide Full 3DHD standard so eventually I can get some better wraparound glasses for it! (Like the Pannies)

    • What store was it? Was it in Victoria?

      How bad is the buzzing?
Also, I don't plan to watch TV, just PS3 and stuff from the XBMC HTPC, I'm curious how the image processing is for direct HDMI input, like blu ray, high end DVD player, console or HTPC if you have any of those? I'm hoping it doesn't 'mess with' the image too much (my Panasonic doesn't)

OK, had authorized Samsung service guy out today. I wasn't home but left notes with the Mrs on the problem and what I've tried to rectify it. After the guy had a look his conclusion was: "It's a known issue with plasmas, especially when they get as big as this one is, and that it's caused by the electronic components switching on and off with big power consumption!" He said that "Basically, there's nothing that'll fix it, that he's replaced panels in the past and still had the same issue afterwards." So he's noting that I'm not satisfied.
I think I'll raise it up to where it would be on the wall to see how it sounds, then give it a day or 2 to see how I feel, but may ring Samsung and look at a replacement model! Might see what they'll do on a 60" LCD!

  • Nothing that I can say wrong about the image processing from any device I've attached!!! The blockiness I was talking about is from the WDTV, and even then it's not the WD's problem, it's the compressed AVIs and MP4s I'm playing through it!!!
Actually, I went back to the 46" the other night and noticed that there's a bit on it too!!!

As for the buzzing, doesn't matter what input you're using, it seems to be generated by something from within the TV and obviously more audible on darker or black screens!
You can here it up to about 15% volume and certainly noticeable when the screen goes silent. It's not unbearable or anything silly, but the TV is brand new and unacceptable to me!
I have Samsung coming out Thursday to have a look!
I'll let everyone know the outcome!!!

    • I thought you might be using the onboard USB ports to decode files directly on the TV (the idea seems gross to me, it's for parents / dumb friends who don't have a proper device) so I figured it was bad with codecs

PS3 quality is most important to me - actually I want to run my HTPC on it.
Scope these images out (in full screen) on your TV, I'm curious how they come out.

The text is kinda crappy on my 50" cause it's only 720p but the colours and image stability are quite good.

      • Images come up great…
Really good depth to the mountains on the game pic and text (laptime, etc) quite clear.
Text on Age pic is very clear and readable. Although I'd zoom the page in 150%-200%!
Likewise the fonts are quite clear right down to 10pt. 7&8pt are discernible and clear, but obviously a little pixelated using the system fonts.
Might have to hook the Xbox or Wii up to it on the w/end to see what it likes with motion graphics!

        • I assume you pulled em up in full screen mode? - how'd you get em on there? USB stick?
So where'd you get it? What location?

        • Loaded them directly from Internet on TV, but obviously the web page didn't bring them up in full screen… So yeah, transferred full res pics onto USB. Also gave me a chance to play with some settings too!
Could've also used the Samsung - Swipe It app from the phone to send it to the TV!

And if you're talking about where'd I get the TV from… It was HN Frankston!
