ShopBack: Apple MacBook Pro - The Tracked Amount Is Wrong and It Is a Smaller Amount

Hi Team, I recently purchased Macbook Pro from Apple website.

The tracked amount is wrong and it is a smaller amount. I have also attached the receipt as part of the complaint ticket.

I have been contacting your team through your online chat agent. No reply or resolution for the same issue. I will be forced to contact NSW fair trading consumer affairs department if it is not addressed in timely manner.

  1. Merchant: Apple Store for Education
  2. Cashback Status: Pending
  3. Currency: AUD
  4. Tracked amount: $28.90
  5. Purchase Amount:$2,408.18
  6. Cashback: 7%

Did you factor in GST is removed before calculating Cashback?

    • So GST be $218.92, 8% of $2,189.18 is not $28.90, more like 1.3% lol

I asked the question before OP made a revision. Lol.

  • You might want to delete this post OP and repost without your ticket ID.

Thanks for the suggestion and guidance. Will do it.

If you want a post removed by moderation you need to click the report link on your post and request it. Otherwise no action is taken.

        • OP do what scrimshaw says, we can still see your ticket ID if we click revision history

You seem to have confused ozbargain forum with the shopback email address.

    • A perfect example of this. We need to get this implemented by second quarter 2025.

  • What happens if u remove GST & shipping?

    Im speechless.

When I looked at the Shopback App the Apple Store for Education is 1.2% on the Purchase Price excluding:

Fees, Taxes, Service Charges, Shipping and Delivery Fees.

    2408.18*(1.2/100) is 28.90 Rounded.

    • Wonder why the OP is stating 8% instead?

      • I dunno.

There is a Bonus 2% if Westpac Bonus Cashback if that is the Funding Source but even then if you add that to Standard Cashback of 5% you get 7%

Unless the Cashback was previously higher… but the numbers appear to make it 1.2% that corresponds to the declared "Apple Store for Education" @ 1. (above).

    • Hi @holdenmg. On purchase date, the shop back offer was 8%.

      • Thanks for highlighting this mate! The support team will take a look at this and get it sorted ASAP

    • @holdenmg. The purchase date was 09-01-2025.

  • recently made a cashrewards purchase @ 5%, also experiencing similar issue, when did OP purchase ? as it can take a week for them to properly calculate the correct rates I spent 2000+ and only got 15$ back which is defs not 5% !!!

    • just checked my account again and it has tracked ! 93$ roughly - as they say its the amount before tax so all things are in order

Cashrewards seem to be a lot more honest - and easier to contact to rectify issues.

Complain to AFCA. My ShopBack transaction was ignored by the email and the rep here on ozbargain. After an AFCA complaint opened it was sorted within a couple days. Funny that.

It actually said on the notes their response - so it wasn't a coincidence.

ShopBack are dodgy as hell though, I've stopped using them after they made me go Full Regulator for a measly $60.

This should be pinned in the forums somewhere.

The more people who do this to shopback and similar companies the sooner they will sort their sh*t out and just honour the contracts they make with people without all the hassle.

Unfortunately many businesses offer better sales and discounts via these companies instead of just directly to their customers. Unless that changes it is still worth using them.

  • I hope it all works out for you. Shopback are dodgy as hell. I bought an Asus Vivobook purely because there was a bonus cashback.

I've supplied everything as evidence and still it was rejected. I bet Shopback pocketed whatever commission they got though.

The cashback was potentially approximately $300. I've stopped using them and cancelled my account.

yeah F**k shopback tbh, they had this signup offer which was 100% cashback, which sounded like afree gift card, but instead it just sent $5 into my shopback account to be locked up…. i bet they are doing some sort of money laundering in there

      • i bet they are doing some sort of money laundering in there

I think you mean to say stealing other people's money.
How else will they be able to fund all the 10c giveaways every now and then?

    • Hi Friends,

      @MahjongKing

Finally Shopback company support person sent me a mail saying "they will look into this". After couple of hours the cash back amount was tracked. What worked for me was, reporting in every social media website and public reviews. I also registered a complaint with Consumer affairs Victoria. Thank you all for being supportive with your suggestions.

The learning is: Never ever use shop back in future. Their intention and business model has a bad motive.

      • Getting tracked and getting paid are two separate things. I got rejected on being paid. Don't get too excited yet.
