councils in Qld only waive fencing for pools up to 30cm deep

Because a bath tub can fill to this level, makes sense

I wish we could use temporary fencing in summer then pull it down when not in use

    • Hiw about Occasional use withiut fence?

      • 3200L is a lot of water to be filling and refilling…

Grabbed a bigger one a few weeks ago. Worked a treat during Perth heatwave / power outage.

  • drink in that bacteria

  • Can this go on a balcony?

    • You tell us.

Can your balcony hold 0.8 or 3.2 tons, plus the weight of the people using the pool ?

Chat GPT to the rescue lol. Edit: this being for the rectangular variant

        Water Weight:

The pool's rated capacity is 206 US gallons, which is roughly 780 liters.
        At 3/4 full, you'll have about 0.75 × 780 ≈ 585 liters of water.
Since 1 liter of water ≈ 1 kg, that's approximately 585 kg of water.
        Footprint and Load Distribution:

        The pool’s dimensions are 262 cm × 175 cm, which is 2.62 m × 1.75 m.

        This gives a footprint of about 2.62 m × 1.75 m ≈ 4.585 m².

Spreading 585 kg over 4.585 m² gives an average load of:

        585 kg ÷ 4.585 m² ≈ 127.6 kg/m².

        Comparing to Typical Balcony Capacities:

New balconies are usually designed to handle live loads around 300–400 kg/m² (roughly 3.0–4.0 kN/m²).
An average load of 127.6 kg/m² is well below that threshold.

Not for the round 3200L one:

A typical apartment balcony is not designed to support the weight of a 3m diameter pool filled with 3,200L (3.2 metric tons of water). Here’s why:

          1. Load Calculation

          • Water weight: 3,200L = 3,200 kg (3.2 metric tons)
          • Area: A 3m diameter circle has an area of 7.07 m².
          • Load per square meter: 3,200 kg} / 7.07 m² ≈ 453 kg/m²

          2. Typical Balcony Load Limits

          • Most residential balconies are designed for a live load of 250-350 kg/m².
          • Some newer buildings or reinforced structures may allow up to 400 kg/m².

          3. Conclusion

          • At 453 kg/m², the load exceeds typical balcony limits, meaning the risk of structural failure is high.
          • Even if the structure doesn’t collapse immediately, it could cause long-term damage due to excessive stress.

          Safer Alternatives

          • Check with a structural engineer before attempting this.
          • Consider a smaller pool or one with a lower water level.
          • Use a ground-level patio or yard instead.
