  • Bought this model 6 months ago, absolutely fantastic. The projector was way better than expected, works really well.

Great price @ $271.70. I got ours with an online price match, 20% off good guys gift cards, and TRS refund and it was still $280!.

  • Is it a true HD Video Camera? I keep seeing cheap HD Video cameras but when I look into it they are not a true HD one. Is this one?

    Whats the CMOS?

    • Hi Twisty - This one definitely is True HD. On the product specs you can see Maximum Resolution is 1920 x 1080. As for the sensor it is 1/5.8 Exmor R CMOS. Hope this has helped.

      • Thanks

  • Want to include the 5 year extended warranty too :) I will buy one then

    • You don't ask for much do you :P Sorry Twisty, can't give away a 5yr warranty as well - We've already maximized the discount exclusively for OzB.

        hahaha worth a shot

  • Nice price, but real world video test

    • What's your point? Seems pretty good, not the camera's fault the dude can't keep the thing steady. :/

    • It is the user's fault. Can't imagine many hand held cameras being carried upstairs performing much better. Quality improves when standing still and zooming into Opera House.

Also, a comment I found humourous on the video: "Stabilization level m j fox."

To OP, Do you have Sony HDR-PJ10 in stock and can you do any discount on that?
I heard that model can do 1080/60p whereas this one is capable of only 1080/60i

    • +1

      Hi ozdesi,
The PJ10 was discontinued earlier this year and replaced by the HDRPJ260, which does the 1080/50p for you (60p is for the US). I'm not sure how you'll go tracking one down but we don't have any left, I'm sorry. It is a bit of a jump up in price but here's a link for the PJ260:

Feel to jump on LiveChat if you have any other questions :)

Best price on the PJ260 ?

      • Interesting because the Sony website specifically states this model (HDRPJ200) does 1080p. Or is the one you sell without the 'e' on the end of the model number?

        http://www.sony.com.au/product/hdr-pj200e

        • +2

          Hi CyberGenesys,

The 'E' on the end is part of the full model number - some places will include it, some don't but it is one and the same. It does indeed record 1080p @ 25 fps and 1080i @ 50fps.

        • I think it should be able to do 1080/25p (half of 50i). So, "1080p" can be misleading without the full specs. 1080/50p will be much smoother than this one however those cam's will be more expensive.

Edit: OP made a comment faster than I could type.

  • OMG I just bought this for my sister at full price for christmas, from your store. :(

      • Hi Maddie, I spoke to Chris and he said that he will speak to you on Monday and then get back to me via e-mail, thank you for the support! I'll give this a +1 as it's a great camera. :)

  • how much in-built memory does it have? and what memory card can you use to extend it?

  • also does this include the bonus "Sony Vegas movie editing software"??

  • +2

    @mofo789

It includes the bonus Vegas movie thing, it uses SDHC/SDXC card ( I bought a 128gb card Class10 UHS-1 and it works fine) I believe it has 4gb in-built, it's not very big.

  • GOOD DEAL

"Ok so my wife picked this up for me today at BestBuy for about four and a half Benjamin's, actually 10 under that. Anyhow. First the PROS. It does great in indoor light during the evening. It even has a low light setting for VERY low light. The projector is very cool, however for me I don't know how often I would actually use it in a practical situation. It's rather small, which is good, makes for easy carrying. Takes standard SD memory cards. Records audio in stereo, picks up the sound well, has some focus following feature where you can long press on a subject in the viewfinder and it will keep the subject in focus so long as it can see them, while they move around the scene. The zoom is great, very clear and VERY STABLE, great job on the image stabilization!!!! Also the MACRO is GREAT!!!!!! Seems like you can practically put something all the way up to the lens and it will focus on it.

CONS: The still image quality is GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!! My EVO 3D does FAR OUTSTANDING SUPERIOR photos compared to this camera. This camera claims it can do 5.3 megapixels, my EVO 3D does 5.0 megapixels. There is no excuse for the horrible lack of quality for the stills in this camcorder. Maybe many or most people won't use that feature, but you pay for it, it should be more than a novelty. Also most people probably won't mind but there is no input option for different microphones, nor are there inputs for headphones. Also: It is NOT truly FULL HD!!! It does NOT do 1080P, only 1080i. There IS a difference!!!!

Personally I feel this camcorder is overpriced. We are probably returning it tomorrow. If it was about a hundred bucks less, I'd probably keep it. The projector feature seems weird as I just don't know how practical it is. And the projected image is only at 640 x 360, that's not even VGA resolution. Seems just like a gimmick to sell the camera. If it was a higher res ok.. but still not sure where the niche is for it. Some people will LOVE this camcorder. And to be honest, if it did FULL 1080P, I would probably keep it. But as it is.. it's getting returned tomorrow."

While $271 is a good price the retail price of 500 is bs to begin with

  • So after asking if this is a true hd camera is not really full hd??

What one does 1080p and what is that ones price please?

    • Hi Twisty, to put it simply, Full HD is classed as a resolution of 1920 x 1080 which the HDRPJ200 does indeed record at. At 25 frames per second it will be progressive and at 50 frames per second it will be interlaced. The HDRPJ260 will record Full HD in 50 progressive frames per second if that's a feature which is important to you. Thanks :)
