11th Gen are being released next month, so prices for the older models are likely to fall further.

    • Depends what they ask for the 11th gen. It could be $700+ and that leaves room for the 10th gen around $500.

      • 10th gen around $500.

        Which is cheaper

        • Than $494? Hmmm….

          • @ezzaf: YEAH if you know how price beat works

I was on the same boat last week and pulled trigger with 10th Gen.

  • The year will be 2092 and the iPad 87 will still come with 64GB storage

    • +3

Which for most people will still be completely fine as the vast majority of users purely use them to stream and surf the Internet

Ehh, I'm not sure I buy that. I think perhaps these are okay for very specific school and workplaces with very limited uses, like to run one specific educational or work app, or to sit in one place and run POS/kiosk software. But for home users, most people are still installing apps for common websites when available, and even a dozen apps blows up fast, plus all the caches, sync of photos taken on your phone, etc.

I'd like an iPad specifically just to learn to do electronic music on, not even general use, but I'm resisting here as even for that 64gb will probably not be enough.

Still. Apple finally moved on from 8gb ram on macbooks. Anything is possible.

      • It’s purely acceptable for light users at this point in time. 8gb of storage used to be acceptable for that use case in the past. Over time apps and the OS updates increase in size. If you intend to keep the iPad long term more users will experience issues with the 64gb variant. Plenty of complaints just from users not being able to upgrade to iPad os 18 because if the increase in size.

I consider myself a lighter user and my iPad has 75gb of storage used up. Wow! Hate to see how much I’ll be using in a few years

yes agree. but also depends what you think of long term.

I had my 9th budget iPad for about 3 years now. OS, 2 games, all streaming apps I use (I don’t bother to uninstall after subs end), some minimal photos videos, and all product apps (earbuds etc) and I have 20GB left out of 64GB.

and that’s after I noticed YouTube had grown in size over years to 7GB in size. I signed out, deleted it then reinstalled and signed in. two weeks later it’s only taking up 500MB now. 🙂

but yeah one more mainstream game and that’s storage almost full.

I think Apple knows exactly what they are doing and they choose base storage size which is just the right amount so people will think if upgrading next upgrade cycle (for Apple users usually about 5 years major IOS upgrade support might end).

It will be an App in Neuralink and your brain will be the storage

    • -3

i will wait for IPAD 69 with 69 GB storage

  • This is over 2 years old. I can understand people say wait until next model. 2+ years added usability for a little more $. Hopefully the new base model is double the storage. 128gb should be a minimum in 2025 but you know Apple love to try and use storage as an upsell.

  • Bought one for $599 last month from Apple. RIP.

Not sure if the price is worth buying 3 OP let alone 1.

    • My kids iPads are ancient (ipad 6s and a 7). Thought about waiting to see if the next gen pushes this down but given the ipad 9 is on sale for $347, I can't imagine these will come down in price dramatically or quickly but who knows.

      • +2

iPad 6 and 7 ancient? My folks must be prehistoric as they're still using their iPad purchased in 2013. Recently the kid behind the counter at the local hardware made a comment about dad's iPhone SE. He said that the phone was so old that it was probably made before he was even born. He couldn't comprehend how anyone could survive with a phone that only had a 4 inch screen.

  • 64gb storage for an iPad is barely enough. Ewaste anyone?
