        • Agreed. Those jatco units are absolute lemons.

          • -5

@CocaKoala: Because you have serviced so many Jatcos and you are a CVT expert, right 🤣

            • +1

@King Tightarse: Unfortunately with OzB people are more interested in the crowd opinion than factual advice. Go check the rest of the comments, someone thinks the m3 comp has a torque converter and I was the one that got downvoted LOL

              • @doobey1231: The current model M3 Comp DOES have a torque converter… All M models now use the ZF8 since 2019. Im a BMW tech…

    • When did you do the last CVT fluid flush? Be honest now hehe

    • What makes you think this mg Cvt will be better?

    SUV
    gees

soon they'll be calling an e-scooter with big wheels, an SUV.

    • +1

I don’t think the term SUV is worthy of gatekeeping to be totally honest with you.

      • +1

i once got charged extra at a carwash because my Subaru XV - was an "SUV"

i'm like COME ON it's literally an Impreza small car.

        • I mean technically the XV is a CUV, but for some weird reason CUVs get thrown into the SUV category? Honestly to me it’s just short form for hatchback with long legs and an eating problem.

        • If you go to the Subaru website it literally calls the XV (Crosstrek) an SUV.

        • i mean if anything raised raised it's easier to wash

    • +2

The specified ground clearance on this MG is 155mm. A Mazda 3 has ground clearance of 150 mm. It's literally just a bunch of black plastic stuck on around the wheels to make it look all "tough" and too cool for school.

      • +1

that's the same playbook on all the crossover nowadays. tweak the styling a little, raise it a few cm and wack a few extra grand on the price

  • ,~~ 100 years ~~^

  • +1

Nice deal with 10 yr warranty but the downside is a 4 star ANCAP rating.

    • +4

      Just dont crash..

    • 4 star is the original ZS with no safety technology.

  • Where are these made?

Lol, the UK of course :P It's MG.

      • It's MG but it's not Morris Garages.

It's now Modern Gentleman. Guess where this cringe from?

      • What about Lotus?

    • +5

Same place they manufacture iPhones and Tesla's

      • …as well as temu and cheap knockoffs…

    • The MG ZST is regarded as a 5d wagon built in China

    • +3

it's all capitalism anyways nowadays, they only pay lip service to socialism or communism, it's all about the money, lining the pocket of officials and billionaires, and no one gives a toss about the every day people. not much different than what's going on in the other half of the world. the only difference is one pretends to have a democracy that's bought by billionaires

      • +1

It’s pretty funny to see the handwringing about the CCP when both our major parties are happy for Australia to be a kleptocracy

      • -2

        it's all capitalism anyways nowadays,

Well it's not. Go to China and try starting a business with CCP approval. That is not Capitalism. The current situation is certainly freer than the full-on Communism they used to have under Mao which murdered tens of millions of people, but it's still not a free market.

        it's all about the money

Same for you though right? I mean do you work for free or for money?

one pretends to have a democracy that's bought by billionaires

How much were you paid to vote in the last election? Just curious.

Ah I do love how they cookers rise to the occasion when a terrifying cheap Chinese car deal is posted 😁

    • I bought a Korean car recently, is that allowed?

Ordered a Japanese but after waiting for 18 months with no end in sight of a delivery , cancelled it.

      • South Korean cars are fine as they are a liberal democracy like us, against communism too. Same goes for the Italians, Americans, Germans, french… Taiwanese.

Yes, cars follow political ideologies too apparently.

  • I am looking for a used Toyota SUV with a budget of $25K to 30K but this price gets me thinking is it worth going for a brand new MG with 10 yr warranty instead.

    • Not worth getting second had toyota.. midas well buy this new with 10 year peace of mind

    • +2

Definitely worth the test drive. IMHO the ZST Excite is the pick it's got the 1.3 turbo motor but no sunroof like the Essence which is top of the range.

When I drove the Essence the heat radiating through the sunroof I couldn't live with. And the 1.5L non-turbo in the lower models isn't as good.

      • The excite does seem to be the best option but they only have the vibe and essence on offer in VIC.

    • +1

I had the same dilemma 18 months ago. Brand new car with a 7 year warranty vs a used Toyota. Decided on a Haval Jolion.

The one issue is I had to replace the battery already, which is a common problem, and the safety stuff beeps at me all the time.

45,000kms so far and love it still. Plan to keep it for a long time.

      • Thanks which variant of Jolion did you get?

        • +2

The cheapest! I went in there haggling hard saying it's between this and a Hyundai Venue manual which was a few grand less, and they gave it me eventually.

I'd like the 360 camera, but the goal was to buy realiable transportation with a long warranty for as little money as possible.

  • +1

When the warranty runs out they'll be 1 km high at the tip .

    • -1

If that was true, it will be very expensive for MG considering they offer a longer warranty then a much more expensive Toyota.

      • -2

        a longer warranty

Quality vs quantity. It's a thing

  • How's the warranty work on these things? I presume that I can't service it myself if I want a warranty?

Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Urban edition is probably better buy at $24000. Get more equipment. 5 star Ancap rating with Chery over 4 star with the MG.

Chery also has turbo engine that has more grunt.

Good thing about the MG ZST is they all have 360 degree cameras. What I now consider an essential item. Now after getting it in one of our current cars

Personally would spend $27000 and buy the Chery Tiggo 4 pro Ultra Ultlimate model

    https://cherymotor.com.au/models/tiggo-4-pro

    https://www.carexpert.com.au/chery/tiggo-4-pro/vs/mg/zst

    • +1

100% agree. Had a look at one in person the other day. The interior of the Tiggo 4 Pro looks 'premium'. The marketing photos don't actually do it justice for the price of the car. The 360 camera on the 27K model isn't just a regular 360 camera, the camera quality for both the reverse and 360 actually seems very high resolution??? like up there with the Teslas. I was surprised by it.

    • +1

Chery Tiggo 4 has not yet been tested and rated for ANCAP. You're misinformed if that's what a chery dealer has told you.

      • Damn ya you’re right. Salesman said Tiggo 4 pro would probably get 5 star rating as the Tiggo 4 pro uses same chassis as Chery Omoda 5 which does have 5 star rating . Checked and information about sharing same chassis (as omoda 5) and underpinnings is correct.

        That’s where I got confused

        • -4

These things have a chassis? A full frame, not unitary construction?
Bollocks! Time to get a different car dealer, or at least a different salesman…. because they are lying.
Now if he was talking about an old 1993- 2005 kia sportage, or any suzuki jimny, he'd be right.
Anything else similar to these do NOT have a chassis.

    • +2

Stay away from Chery. Bad after purchase support.. MG at least operates its own service centers.

  • +1

I would totally get this if it was an electric vehicle, but am not going back to fuel cars and high price servicing.

    • -1

The battery along would cost close to this in any respectable electric car. I don't think prices will be this low in the next 10 years. or ever.

      • +1

the Chinese would disagree they are geting this low already in China. its only a matter of time before that comes over here.

    • i too would buy this if it had $20k worth of batteries attached to it.

  • ZST essence or Chery Tiggon4 pro ultimate? Thoughts anyone?

Looking to move my mum from a 2019 Cerato Sport into a compact SUV so it's easier for school drop offs for her.

Hehe.. dropping off my kids (when she needs to) that is

        • Ohhhh! silly moi! Gotcha! :)

    • I have the Chery Tiggo 4 Ultimate. I had it since December. Only new but I'm loving it so far. I travel approx 100km a day.

It had it's first service at 1000km and I've done 3500km so far. Some people find the steering a bit sensitive/soft but you get used to it. I prefer it actually.

Only time will tell if there will be ongoing issues. The only thing I find uncomfortable is the centre console. It rubs against my legs when I drive. I'm tall so maybe that's why.

I traded my Mercedes GLA 180 for the Chery. The Mercedes was costing me too much money for servicing and parts plus just to change plugs and ignition coils was over $1k.

  • +9

Such low price what you expect, car has all main average features, but people complaining about car has no power or it's materials are low quality, it's using same as most average common parts/features like Toyota cars.

you should only concerned it's safety features an maybe fuel consumption, people now days find anything to complain, if you do not like it don't buy it no body is forcing you, want something little better pay a little more.

  • Even independent Moto Journalist John Cadogan is coming around on MG.

    • And the other guy said it was the worst car he's ever driven…

  • -6

Imagine how cheap these are in China, then imagine the build quality..

    • +2

It’s called economies of scale. China makes 30 million cars year. America 2nd largest manufacturer in the world only makes 10 million. For every 1 car made in America Chinese are making 3. Allows cost of each unit be driven down by economies of scale.

      • -4

It's called landfill, pumping out crap that won't last 5 years. Find me a Chinese car with 250km on the clock or one that's 10 years old..

        • +1

That’s bit difficult. Cause most the more modern Chinese cars been here less than 10 years. But I don’t think they would give 7 or 10 year warranties if your comments were accurate.

My MIL had 2016 or /7 MG GS had 150000 kms on it was 2016 or 2017. I used think like you did till I drove in and saw her car.

Only problem she said she had was the steering wheel peeling and seat belt issues. Also something do with power steering . Both replaced or fixed under warranty
          Her car was similiar to-
          https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/mg/gs/

          • -7

@justgooddeals: It's not just an Australian issue, it's a global issue. They've been exporting landfill for decades.

Everyone knows Japanese/German or Lada in Colder climates.

Everyone knows not a Chinese tin can.

Go ahead tho, zero resale value and good luck with the warranty

            • +1

@AuQld: Did bit research based on MIL old car she only lost about $8000 -$10000 in 7/8 years on resale paid something like $20000 and can get about $10-12000 now.

So not bad resale really. That was MG GS

              • -1

@justgooddeals: Lol nobody is buying that for anything over 6k. Just because some dealers are trying to rip a granny off doesn't mean it's going to sell..

                Good luck tho..

                • +1

@AuQld: Gumtree valuation says about $10000. Same redbook for essence 2 litre model

                  https://www.gumtree.com.au/car-valuation

                  https://www.redbook.com.au/cars/details/2017-mg-gs-essence-x…

                  And I didn’t neg you.

                  • -3

@justgooddeals: There is 4 listed on gumtree in Qld, all dealers, listenings are updated daily so no data as to how long the adds have been up.

There all basically hoping a granny will see a shiny car. A private sale won't happen for anything near that price.

You can't sell it to Redbook, the valuation is based on age not sales.

2010 V8 landcruiser are going for 28k apparently on Redbook. You won't find one for anything less than 50k.

                    • +1

@AuQld: My MIL was offered $8000 as trade in. She thinks can do better privately.

                      Time will tell.

                      • -2

@justgooddeals: Well I did get 8k for my 14 year old swift so anything is possible, it was 15k new. Had 120km on the clock never skipped a beat on oil changes. Only work done was rear wheel bearings after 100km which was the fault of the shipping company who strapped them down to tightly that year as it's a common problem.

Had zero rust, and will probably go another 200km if it's looked after.

My Toyota RAV4 will do 300km easy.

Parts are easy to find if there is a problem, plenty of spares in the scraper too if needed.

Any popular Japanese car will have a much higher resale value, be easier to maintain, easier to find parts, easier for mechanics to work on, and obviously last at least twice as long.

European/German cars are expensive to maintain, expensive for parts, expensive to work on.

American cars are hit and miss.

Korean have gotten better and are starting to compete with Japanese but still have a long way to go when it comes to longevity.

Chinese really haven't proven themselves in any car market.

Guess who the leader of the most unreliable car is in the UK.

My MG 4 is not 10 years old but it has more than 3000 km on it so what is your point ?

          • -3

@z28: It's not even 2 years old. EVs are a different game tho, a lot less can go wrong with them. I know nothing other than all EVs won't last longer than 10 years without a battery replacement which will generally write off the vehicle.

          • @z28: I think he means 300,000km not 3000km…. :)

I will do 3000km in one month sometimes… HAHA.
