Safe Travel in Bali for Women

I was wondering if people think it's safe for a small woman traveling alone in Bali for a short time on her way back to the Philippines? What precautions should she be taking? Are the driver's all pretty safe? She spent one night in a budget hotel near the airport. She said the taxi drivers were pretty full on at the airport. She arrived there late at night.

What is the actual question?. What is the actual 'tense' of the question? Past, present future? The post jumps all over the place

It’s sounds OP is male asking in reference to a female loved one like wife, girlfriend, sister or mum. Which is fair enough.

I think it's the varied use of past and future tense that is most confusing.

Bali is generally considered a safe destination for solo female travelers. However, it's always important to take standard safety precautions. Here are some tips to help you stay safe:

    1. Research Safe Areas to Stay: Choose well-reviewed accommodations in safe neighborhoods like Seminyak or Ubud.
    2. Dress Modestly and Respectfully: Respect local customs by dressing modestly, especially when visiting temples or rural areas.
    3. Trust Your Instincts: Always listen to your gut feeling and avoid situations that make you uncomfortable.
    4. Inform Trusted Individuals About Your Plans: Let someone know where you're going and when you plan to return.
    5. Carry Personal Safety Devices: Consider carrying a whistle, personal alarm, or pepper spray for added security.
    6. Beware carrying boogie boards: Do not bring in any boogie boards concealing cannabis.

She said the taxi drivers were pretty full on at the airport

Further explain full on? Cause this is quite vague, they can be full on to want your business with them, or they can full on in other ways……

IMO, Bali is safe for women. I stayed in Bali for 2.5 weeks last July and I always roam alone at night, even around 1am….. I've seen alot of girls and women just walking about alone, both tourist and staff members.

My friend whom is a 36 female, roaming at night too alone, and the only people that heckled her are go (uber equiv) drivers to ride with them and staff members who are infront of their store for money/business. She even said drunk male tourist didn't bother her when she walked past.

Bali isn't perfect but the crime rate vs Sydney is lower and if I were a woman, I rather be in Bali than Sydney.

Conclusion: I have high confidence your friend will be fine alone. But if she wants to be careful, then take the same steps she might/would take in Australia. Know the police number, know what shops are open late, bring a whistle to attract attention, go back to the hotel at a safe time, stay in busy areas…..

      Further explain full on?

A group of men come up to you and ask if you need a taxi.

Some of them follow you and keep asking.

You keep walking and other men come up to you asking if you need a taxi.

Some of them follow you and keep asking.

      • Book your transfer in the airport with the regulated desk.

3 Rules for some travelling abroad (but also really for anybody):

    1. Don't get drunk.
    2. Don't walk the streets late at night on your own.
    3. Don't go off with strangers unless in your own trusted group.

      1. Avoid any area where number of bogans exceeds 1

Avoid any area where number of bogans exceeds 1

That excludes the majority of bali then.

      • They are more of a danger to themselves than others.

Bali is safe, just use registered travel services and make sure that the rego matches the description if using gojek/grab
Or that the pic of the driver in a bluebird taxi is of the actual driver.

Then its same precautions as any other place for a single woman.

For the future, if you trust the hotel/accommodation they are staying in, have the hotel send a driver associated with their hotel.

I wouldn’t go out to drinking spots alone at night, similarly I probably wouldn’t go alone to nightclubs in Australia.

Don't drink cocktails in Bali. See the sealed drink being opened in front of you. Applies to any gender.

  • IMO it's safe overall.

The only taxi I would recommend is Bluebird (make sure it says Bluebird, there's another taxi company that uses blue cars with a similar logo).

    Or get a Grab/Gojek.

OP's name is Bluebird lmao what's the coincidence here

      • lol.. didn't even notice.

Bluebird taxi's always use the meter. I always take one if available over the rideshare.

In parts of Bali there are the local taxi mafia, Bluebird taxi's can drop you off to a certain area but can't pick you up from there.
