Someone in commercial finance accounting should know not to be so vague. Being precise is half the job description.

We know nothing about you, your skills/ability or ambitions. Do you want gig roles like Uber or Amazon Flex? Do you want an interim job with a company? Do you want a career change? Why not focus on getting a suitable job and enjoy the downtime of the redundnacy (hopefully it came with a fat payout).

      not to be so vague

He's not being vague; he's just bashful - you know, looking at his shoes as opposed to yours…

Don’t forget that you’ll need to notify your insurance company, which I’m guessing a lot of people don’t do

      • -5

I don't remember that this was a question when I last applied for an insurance for a new car (about a year ago). It is probably still buried somewhere there in the terms and conditions, that you'll need to notify. But no wonder a lot of people miss it.

        • +18

The use of the car - personal/commuting vs commercial is one of the first questions every insurer asks, typically.

      • Why would you assume that?

After I was made redunant in 2024, I decided I needed a circuit breaker to get my health back on track (by the end I was working ~10hrs daily due to understaffing, developed insomnia, anxiety, gained weight, etc.) so I went on gumtree and found a job ad for a removalist company 10mins from my house.

Called them up and met with the boss that afternoon, got offered a job as a casual off-sider for $35/hr. Best decision I made at that point, it was hard work but the amount of exercise I got, the travel I did every day, the different people I met, the diverse nature of the work (removalist, delivery, construction, logistics, warehouse work) and the 6am-2pm hrs meant I had plenty of time in the arvo to do my own things. It also helped fix my insomnia and anxiety issues.

It was also a casual job so when I started interviewing back in my field, I could easily take a half-day off to take care of that. Eventually I found a role back in my field but would still do the ocassional weekend shift with them when work is busy.

heavy lifting is associated with permanent back injuries - as an IT teacher I had several 35yo-ish students who told me they had worked as labourers until their boss told them to lift something too heavy - 'click'

now they live with pain and are looking for a desk job

so watch out for awkward lifts - I've read that a surprisingly common spinal injury is getting out of the driver's seat of a car - swinging your legs out to the ground, then twisting the torso to reach back across to pick up a bag of shopping from the passenger seat - easy - permanent damage - beware …

      • +1

Oh we're definitely careful with heavy lifting and proper posture - one wrong move and you're messed up for a few days.

I go to the gym regularly as well so I know what my limits are. In this kind of work, trying to show off and lifting with your ego trying to look good will just do more damage than good.

  • Register with recruiters and say you're open to contract and you might find a short term contract. Way better than a lot of the stuff going around.

Check out a show called Breaking Bad…

It may inspire you to start your own independent film production company.

  • Escort work apparently pays a lot and it doesn't necessarily include rude stuff. Kind of like rent a friend. Don't have to provide "benefits".

Can you tutor? No law says you have to be a teacher to tutor. Lots of kids access math tutors for example. Most lecturers at uni aren't qualified teachers, just knowledgeable in their field.

Another thread suggested some learner drivers struggle to find people to supervise them for the 100 hours practise they have to do. Not required to be driving instructor to provide this service (presuming you have a car?)

  • Computer lessons for the computer literacy challenged? (Suggest target old people?)

  • Tutoring for industry specific software you know how to use?

My mum (really old) got lessons in how to use all her iCrap and word, excel, some apps using ipencil to write on iPad screen and convert to text. How to clear cache, cookies, run malware program. Basic computer stuff.

Have you considered Sydney trains driver jobs? Apparently, they pay 200K now.

    • Is your diet all fishing tackle, or do you mix it up?

  • Use the time to get certifications or take courses for your future job. One of the best investments (even if it is just time) is in yourself.

  • I can refer you and coach you on UberEats, nice sign up bonus to grab before you get a real job

  • Sports betting.

  • best option is uber tbh with a good amount of income, dont do it at night and there shouldn't be any issues

  • Matched betting! Especially if you are good with numbers. Thousands of $ in first few months.
