    Galaxy ring. Srsly?

    • +15

      As serious as Bixby.

    • -1

Whats wrong with it? I like the idea. Now if they have a good deal i would be right on it!

      • +3

        $699!

  • Anyone use one of these? Whats the experience like?

    • +6

It can't simulate a diamond ring as yet, but hey watch this space!

    • Haven't used one, but I've read so much previous stuff about the Oura ring, which is apparently a fairly good comparison and people who use those seem to love it

    • It's pretty great, it motivates me very well and provides good insights and record keeping of habits.

Note that the Kogan Aura is shitloads cheaper and nearly does the same thing though, although my friend who got one was getting wildly incorrect sleep times.

I don't get why this expensive product exists. Being a Garmin user, I would imagine the same for anyone who already owns a smartwatch from any brand. It doesn't even have NFC. I fail to see the value proposition here. I wouldn't be surprised if it will be discontinued this time next year.

The only nice thing from what I can see is the charging dock.

    • +15

I don't want a smart watch, would consider this if the price is right and works well

    • +9

Lots of people would wear a ring but not a watch, or take the watch off for sleep/exercise, or want to maximize tracking (so use both).

I've talked to many techy people who fall into each bucket.

The issue is the state of the ring isn't good enough for any of those use cases, especially cf a watch.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat (intended), once it can do a great job of HR tracking either to replace or augment my watch ultra.

Smartwatch has a big market, ring expands the market of wearables. Both watches and especially rings have a huge margin on them.

People love data, and health data really helps. As someone who works in data for a living, I'm able to use it even more - and my data is far more interesting than company data.

    • +3

It's for anyone that doesn't want to sleep with a watch, or wear a watch. And the battery lasts longer than a Samsung watch. Sure you could use a Garmin instead (and I do), but Garmin is a very dumbed down smart watch experience.

    • +1

Longer battery life, sleep tracking and being less bulky than a watch (I forget I'm wearing it). I use another brand though not Samsung as I think it's overpriced. I'm not expecting it to replace my phone and prefer to still carry it around so not having NFC is not a big deal.

    • +4

NFC payments would be my only motivator. But even then it's too expensive.

      • +1

Yes exactly my thoughts too.. there is no way I'm paying anywhere near this, been if contactless payments are available… I had the Bankwest Halo ring until it was retired and that was the single best payment system I've ever used. No other bank or system has come close.

  • I don't

  • +1

its gotta be using my body heat as battery to make it worth a while i bet

Bought 10. 1 for each finger. Using the power of Galaxy AI, Galaxy Ring determines how much KFC you have eaten.

    • +4

      Ok, cool your jets Thanos

    • your fingers and bring tony stark back

    • +2

You might need bigger rings after all the KFC you've eaten.

  • if you have the watch, why do you need the ring ?

    • +9

      Porque no los dos?

    • +3

to keep all the single ladies or lads away

    • +1

For those who hate smart watches, lover of analogue/mechanical watches

    • because samsung doesn't know how to innovate properly. so they will release products just for the sake of being first

  • +6

No NFC for payments… missed opportunity

    • +1

Probably saved that for version 2 so they have something 'new' to announce next year

    • +1

Definitely waiting for this before pulling trigger. Had BankWest ring and loved it and now its expired. Really cant wait until another ring with payment function comes to Australia.

      • +2

The bankwest ring was a fantastic idea. Shame it didn't take off, especially at $25.

        • +1

I miss my BankWest Halo payment trying so much 😭

      • I wondered what happened to the Bankwest ring. It was heavily promoted on one season of The Amazing Race Australia then never seen again.

What is the point of wearing a "smart" ring if you can't pay for things with it? I wouldn't have bought the Samsung one anyway, but I hope Apple's version (iRing? or whatever it may be called) has that functionality. I guess in a payment scenario, the ring could only ever use your default payment method, it's not like you could change it on the ring, you'd still have to use your watch or phone to change the payment method.

        • -1

Bankwest were so far ahead of the game with the Halo, but didn't promote it apart from the Amazing Race. I travelled overseas with that ring and the amount of people asking about it were blown away by its simplicity and how smart it was.

That ring just worked, no charging, waterproof, damn.. I still wear it everyday to hold my wedding ring in place but it's just a ring and a reminder of how life was once easier for contactless payments, never thought I would say that…

          • @TravHall: Ah, so it was more like a PayTag embedded within the ring. Commbank tried that before they supported ApplePay - they essentially gave us a mini version of our debit card (tiny) to stick on the inside of our phone cases.

Not having to charge it would be a huge plus. I have to charge my phone and watch almost daily.

  • +2

Someone better be marrying me if I am paying that much for a ring.
    Its just an oversized washer!

    • Won't last forever, new one every few years

      • +1

        ring or partner?

        • +4

          yes

      • Just like marriages.

  • +6

whats next for Samsung ? C*ck ring ?

    • But plug

    • lol. That would be a bit hard to take.

      • -1

dont you mean, it would be hard to swallow ? lol

  • +1

The thing I'm disappointed by is I can't add custom NFC keys/cards for this ring, e.g. no GPay or Samsung pay

  • Was considering getting one months back then they didnt launch here and it was said an important component inside has a life of like 2 years. Yeah nah.

  • +3

    search for colmi ring…
different ecosystem, different price (buy 20 of these for price of 1 of the samsung ones)
possible to get other firmware onto them also, so can be used outside the "walled garden"

  • +2

Buying 5 so I can snap

  • +5

“Galaxy Ring determines where you can improve”

That’s what my wife does already but I paid a lot more for that ring

  • +3

    MY PRECIOUSSSSSS!!

    • +1

One ring to rule them all

  • It would be new trending for marriage ring 😛

  • I use a ringconn gen2 because I can't have anything on my wrists. Can't speak to the galaxy ring but I highly recommend the ring option to anyone wanting to track metrics outside of using a watch. Make sure to test with the sizing kit and in hold and cold temps.

  • Anyone knows of rings that supports NFC payment in Australia. Was looking into TAPSTER but looks like i’ll have to use a third party app to topup the ring for the NFC payment thing to work. Tapping with ring for transport officers would look cool as hell.

    • +1

Tapster isnt supported in au based on their payment provider so they are a no.

      • Thanks. Guess i’ll just have to wait.

  • Can i use this ring on my wedding day next week 1😂

    • +1

The ring won't last too long because of the battery unless if the battery could be replaced, so you need to buy the next smart ring again or just a ring …

      • Or just wear it even when dead. It's still a ring afterall, battery or not.

  • +2

In before next wave of TikTok videos of marriage proposal with Samsung ring

    • +1

This kind of ring may only last for few years because of the battery, unless if the battery can be replaced …

      • Samsung should give tradein offers to compensate. Else it's not worth

  • Is this ring for the finger or does it vibrate?

    • This one is for finger, the vibrating ones… you'll find them in adult shop

  • +2

Easily the best form factor for this sort of device, doesn't monopolise my wrist.

But $699? looooooooooooooooooooooooool. That's $500 overpriced, at least. The Fit3 is an outstanding bit of gear, and is like $130 at BingLee or $89 on the EPP.

  • +1

The price is NOT worth it as the accuracy of any smart rings is less accurate that smartwatches at the moment. Anyone can watch YouTube channel "The quantified scientist" for real accuracy tests of smartwatches, smart rings, etc.

It's still better to buy a smartwatch than this smart ring, especially with that price …

I predict the price of this smart ring will fall, just like other Samsung smartwatches.

  • +1

with this price tag, the Samsung ring should come with a new girlfriend/boyfriend as bonus feature

  • +1

Ridiculous price. I paid <$27 on a Colmi at AliEx. Doubt Samsung's is over 20x better or more accurate.

  • -1

I want one but what the (profanity)? I have a mechanical watch but still want tracking but my phone isnt on me. I wanted this ring but dam. It cost more than my smartwatch.

  • +1

    when will it be 100

  • +1

not sure why would you pay that much for a terrible ai feature

  • +2

This is the point in time that I realise the world has gone nuts

  • $699 for a ring is ridiculous
