Home insurers that are good to deal with when claiming

Hi all, shopping around for home and contents insurance, so far the top contenders are Coles and Virgin.

Does anyone have any good or bad experiences in claiming with either? Will also look at product review sites but as we know it's often that negative stories are over represented there.

We've had great experiences claiming with AAMI but the premium increase is too much, even if we do a new policy.

Cheers

Coles etc just sell the policy. You will not be dealing with them if you claim.

Coles have changed underwriter, now Auto & General Insurance Company Limited . So other people's experience is irrelevant.

I have dealt with auto and general and their customer service is horrendous. I believe they underwrite budget direct too.

Im with RAA. They charge a higher premium but their claims are hassle free. I think they are only in SA.

Edit: They recently sold their insurance arm to Allianz so will likely go to poop.

    • Same. Im waiting to see how this change pans out before considering a change. But all the auto associations still are best rated for service

    • "Allianz"
Car insurance story - my then 19yo daughter was rear ended a few years ago in my car, police attended all good, listed as number 1 driver no issues there. She adviCed Allianz of the accident with at fault drivers details who also happened to be Allianz. Car assessed as write off, we get pay out and keep the car (kept driving while shopping for another). Months later daughter gets a text message from Allianz chasing up for 'payment'. I say looks a like scam with poor grammar so we ignore, then she gets posted letter. We call, took 10 minutes to sort out but ffs, someone must have clicked the wrong box somewhere
      .

  • How about for landlord? That cover unpaid tenant

Allianz outsourced the claim process when I claimed 2 years ago and are a PITA to deal with as they are slow and are not helpful.

  • Had a claim with ANZ a few years ago. All managed through QBE and I found them easy and responsive. But last year ANZ changed underwriter and upped premium too much. I discovered Australia Post was simply rebadged QBE at a lower price and quite competitive.

    • Thank you for this

AAMI has good sales talk but many exclusions when it comes to claims. I learned this when I made my first claim after so many years of insurance paid to them.
Coles has an excellent policy and claim process, with no dramas and to the point.
Terri Scheere anytime for a Landlord policy. They know what they are covering, and they are the best. For small claims, they process even without sending surveyors to keep the cost low.

    • Thanks very much for these. Great to hear about Coles but another commenter mentioned they've just switched underwriters so the claim experience may well be different.

  • Sure was TERRIBLE

  • Chubb. They are very good, but quite expensive as well.

  • so far the top contenders are Coles and Virgin.

Budget policies…… Always going to 'interesting' when claiming.

  • Depends on each Claim… there are zero absolutes.

    • How about for landlord, specifically damaged property by tenant and not paying rent
