[Unobtainable Deal] Samsonite Proxis Suitcase 81cm - Black/Silver/Green/Lime $359.64 Delivered @ The Iconic

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Looks like there are a few deals around for Samsonite at the moment, and you can double stack an extra 40% off to get the Samsonite Proxis for under $360. RRP is $999 but usually on sale for $599 in the 81cm variant. Could be an ATL for this model Apparently not an ATL but close.

Picked up the lime to hopefully stand out a bit at the airport.

Mod: From comments, ICONIC claimed that this was a price error and orders were cancelled & refunded.

Use code HEYICONIC75 for extra $75 off for new ICONIC accounts

    • Thanks this worked

    • I made another account and tried again but it doesn’t seem to be working anymore unless I add two suitcases

    • +1

This code also worked for me. Came to $284. Bargain! Thank you!

  • +2

I actually really like the lime! But have too many suitcases already

  • I’ve always liked the DLX which is also cheap. As are the Alu ones

  • Anyone have experience using both antler and Samsonite and can give their 2 cents worth?

    • Have an Antler Lincoln in forest green, older model but it's been very very good so far. Sturdy, decently light, lots of colours if you like that and lifetime warranty is such a good thing to have.

    • We have both, Samsonite is better in every regard. Nicer look, better interior, lighter. It's like a porsche vs a VW. The VW is nice but the porsche is luxury.

Worth the upgrade / extra money.

  • +1

I just cancelled my Amazon order and bought from iconic. More choices and faster delivery! But the $75 extra discount can't be applied.

  • -1

    3.5 kg? Wow that’s heavy

    • Why is this being downvoted?

  • +1

I purchased it for $349 from David Jones in Dec, so not ATL

  • +9

Beware if you are planning to use this for airline travel as it is classed as oversized. The maximum allowable combined linear dimensions is 158cm, and this is 171cm. You run the risk of being charged an oversized baggage fee if they decide to enforce the rule. Maybe that is why there are quite a few deals at the moment for these larger cases.

    • +2

Good find. Makes this suitcase absolutely worthless IMO.

    • +3

Geniue question - Why they manufacture luggages for this size if airlines are not going to accept that as normal luggage, how many everyday customers are happy to pay extra because they are called oversize ???

      • Some airlines / classes accept over 158cm

      • Not everyone flies. Any normal person filling this suitcase will easily exceed the 23kg allowance anyways, it would be closer to 30kg.

    • +3

Realistically an 81cm suitcase isn't going to draw any attention, I've taken a dumb amount of domestic and international flights over the last few years and I don't think I've seen anyone scrutinise luggage that closely. They'd only pick you up on it if it is obviously oversize.

      • Qantas and Virgin are both fine with oversize, unsure about Jetstar.

    • +1

Willing to run the risk with counter bag drops. Doubt most staff will actually check the dimensions when it's only over by so little. But I do wonder if the automatic bag drop machines measure size? Or purely weight?

  • +3

Not sure of the appeal on hard suitcases. Less pockets, holds less luggage, can crack and break. Might protect your luggage better but what else are you putting in your suitcase besides clothes and toiletries?

Soft suitcase all the way for the seasoned traveller.

    • Soft case is supreme for bigger suitcases. For carry-on I still prefer hard case to protect my electronics and fragile items from the weather.

    • +1

Until you land/transit through one airport with torrential rain, and your luggage is delivered to you completely soaked. I was 100% on the side with soft suitcases till one time we transited through Singapore, didn't even realise the suitcase was wet when we got to our destination, and then spent the next 2-3 days dealing with damage. It was an expensive and time consuming lesson.

Now, we either use hardcases, or have our luggage wrapped at the stupid prices if we are forced to use a softcase.

      • You know you can get a cover for soft suitcases?

  • +1

55cm Carry on ones are $120.60 from $335

I’m a new customer so got one for $100.60

    https://www.theiconic.com.au/oc2lite-55cm-spinner-suitcase-9…

    • Did you use any code?

    • it's 24cm deep. jetstar's limit is 23cm. are they strict?

      • +1

I have known Jetstar to weigh bags but I haven't seen them check dimensions.

      • No
        Same thing with Virgin

Just got back using both Airlines and Jetstar weighed all our carry ones which was 2 but never measured them and virgin didn’t even weigh them

A few passengers had bags that were a lot bigger then carry on 55cm too. One guy had a 1m duffle bag on board hahaha

    • Jeez….2.6kg?

My Samonsite 55cm hardcase from some years back weighs 1.3kg.

      • Most these days are 2.3-3.6

      • Really? Which one? I though the Octolite, Lite-Shock and Firelites were down around 1.7-1.9kg, not 1.3

    • Thanks, I got it for $94.60 via the discount and 6% off Macquarie Gift Cards. Great price, got a green one to stand out at the airport.

    • I'd love one of these but at 2.6kg, the paranoia is real when going over 7kg carry on weight! Why cant it just be 10kg limit:((

  • If you purchase 6% off iconic giftcard through macquarie bank it will be $337.46

  • Thank you! I have the Proxis 81 and added the 75cm to my ensemble.

Btw add heyiconic50 if buying the 75 under a new account and if you have Macquarie, buy iconic gift cards for the remaining $291.

Proxis 75 came out $275 delivered. Amazing price

  • Thanks! got the Proxis 81 for $284 using the code HEYICONIC75 (Only works on new accounts)

  • is this better or the C-lite better?

    • +1

On par, c lite is lighter, but more basic finishes inside from memory. I have a proxis and love it, but it does lightly scratch quite easily. But the Samsonite suitcase cover is great.

Id go the C lite, but the carry on proxis has the built in usb charger. Can't go wrong either way

    • +1

      Yes

  • NIce , got the Samsonite Major-Lite 69cm for $320 with the HEYICONIC75…thats a great price.

  • Thanks OP. Got this one for 279$ with coupon HEYICONIC50 on a newly created account.
Kind of a dream come true.

  • Thanks OP and BargainsGrabber! HEYICONIC75 worked for me as a new member, $284.64 delivered, what a steal!

Samsonite had an ad showing this case surviving a 211 kg piano drop. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeUkuPIqdkY. The camera cut away at 19s is a bit suss though… Lol.

  • Thanks OP.

Curious to know if these are indeed worth 999 or even the discounted price. The 99 dollar Kmart Premium Hard Case 8 Wheels has been doing really well for me.

    • the quality would be very different.. I don't know if it's 10x better but I would definitely buy it for 3x the price if you travel semi regularly. the cheapo Big W/Kmart ones are great until they are not

    • I sometimes buy suitcases in China for $40. They're mostly lasting a handful of uses at most. But at one trip every few years, that is already going to be almost a decade.

One I got in Japan for around $60 lasted me almost 9 years until the rubber on one of the wheels broke (not the actual wheel). Its very much a mileage may vary, but I would be travelling multiple times a year before justifying that RRP.

In all cases, the interior compartments died after a few years for all suitcases, expensive or not. So you'd end up with a bag where the exterior might be fine but the interior isnt any good anymore. If that's the case, why not buy something where all components last around the same time?

      • +1

I have a few cheap suitcases. One thing I struggle with the most is the smoothness of the wheels.

I often have 25kg+ of stuff that needs to be dragged across the airport and the bumpy footpaths, the cheap ones are so difficult to manoeuvre and make me want to throw them in the bin every single time.

    • +1

I find the difference with the cheap ones is in the fixtures. I have a Kmart one and an Aldi one, the cases themselves are fine but the handles and wheels are always the first to go.

For this one I wouldn’t pay the RRP or even the usual sale price but this is a great deal.

      • the cheap ones tend to be heavier and the handle / wheels are less sturdy/mobile. it makes a big difference if you need to wheel the cases around outside of flat even ground of an airport and they break down easier too, you don't want to have to go hunt for a suit case or be stranded with a 23kg suitcase on the sidewalk with all your dirty socks and undies in a foreign country

  • $599 for me at check out

    • Looks like they’ve caught onto the price error

      • Same here, has anyone know how to get around this?

      • uh-oh, potential price error email, cancellation and refund incoming then.
It was strange as 40% off $999 is $599.40 so it looks like they applied it twice.

        • You got a price error email already?

          • @Rician distribution: Not yet and I hope it does not come but I think they made a mistake and applied the 40% discount twice…

  • Adding it to the bag, price is more expensive than on the main page. Price error fixed in cart

  • Games over

  • When you goto check out its 599

  • GG it's fixed

  • -1

I hope they dont treat this as a price error. I bought gift cards to buy this and dont wanna be left with credit

    • +1

      Mine is dispatched.

      • +1

        The suspense!

        • Many got theirs refunded including mine, fingers crossed for yours as I used my CC and not gift card else you will be stuck with these gift cards:(

          • +2

@mannyTheMemmoth: I got mine refunded, paid by gift cards. I'm beyond peed off haha. Gonna try dispute

          • @mannyTheMemmoth: It's not delivered yet, the website shows as "Shipped" - no updates since last Friday.

            • @piiidx: Samsonite aren’t going to ship it. Mine was in the same boat and as soon as I contacted The Iconic, they canceled my order

                • +1

@piiidx: Best to get them to refund you as if you don’t contact The Iconic, Samsonite will just keep your money

  • Price $599 in cart. What a shame, I would have copped this.

  • It's it just me or is anyone else shocked that the RRP is a grand? That's a lot of money for a suitcase.

Yes yes I know that the designer bags are $10k but this is ozbargain …

    • It's always on at least 40% off at Myers DJs etc.

  • Anyone able to please send me a screenshot of the invoice showing the previously discounted price of $359.64? TIA!

    • +1

      pm'd

      • Could you please send me a screenshot of the discounted price as well. Thank you!

        • I don't think you have messages enabled

  • Hi,

Hope you’re having a great day!

We wanted to give you an update regarding your item/s from Samsonite that belong to order XXXXX.

Due to increased demand, our Partner Providers are taking a little longer than usual to pack and ship your item/s, but they are working hard to deliver to you as quickly as we can and it should still reach you within the estimated delivery timeframe provided to you at the time you placed your order with us.

We're sorry to keep you waiting for your goodies and you have any questions please contact our Customer Service team at [email protected].

Thanks for your patience and understanding,
    THE ICONIC Customer Service Team

    • Received same message today as the order confirmation had delivery by tomorrow. At least it looks like they will honour the transaction.

    • I received that email this morning too.
However I just received a refund on the purchase.. :(

    • So it should be the 'Partner Providers' who cancelled the orders, is it?

It's ironic that they said "they are working hard to deliver to you as quickly as we can and it should still reach you within the estimated delivery timeframe provided to you at the time you placed your order with us."

  • Just received a refund :(

  • I received no communication from them at all except a refund message from paypal.

  • F**** iconic, issued the refund without any email, they are still selling it without that discount so it's not availability.

  • I got refunded as well .

  • We’re reaching out about your recent order [x] or purchase of a Samsonite product(s). Unfortunately, due to a technical issue, the Samsonite product range was incorrectly priced. As a result of this, we are unable to accept and process your order and will cancel your order for the Samsonite product(s) in accordance with clause 3.6 of our Terms & Conditions, which you can find here.

We understand this might be disappointing, and we're truly sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. We will process a full refund of the amount you had paid for the Samsonite product(s) back to your original payment method. This refund should be reflected in your account within the next 3-5 business days.

Note the good news is the pricing issue has now been resolved and Samsonite products are now available at up to 40% off, subject to availability, until 31 January 2025.

    • +5

I laughed when they said "the good news"

  • +2

Well played Iconic… well played… the bastards also locked the iconic giftcard credits onto your account, and if you are a new user, you can't use the HEYICONIC codes anymore as you're technically not a new user anymore >:(

    • can we complain to ombudsman ? they can not force us to use the credit. we purchased their vouchers only to purchase that particular product. is there a way to get the cash refund?
