  • If I cancel this do I pay $895 or $2495 and then do I get a gift card??? How to do this method in store?

    /s

    • +1

      895

      • +1

Max voucher repayment fee is $800. But in the past I’ve got the first months charge refunded so it’s just $800. Really good imo

        • Good for people who aren't thinking of Salary Sacrifice or travelling and TRS. Haha

        • +1

How did you put forth the request to refund the first months charge? What did you say exactly? did u do this instore with jb hifi or telstra store?

  • +1

$800 for a 512gb s25+ provided you get the first months charge $99 refunded. That’s good as.

      • +10

Stop spreading misinformation if you don't know what you're talking about. This deal has been going on for years. Telstra don't know jb gave you a phone. All they care about is that you're cancelling a 99 per month plan, which in the CIS has a maximum voucher repayment fee of $800. If you don't believe me, go into jb, ask to see the CIS for the S25+ $99 plan and read what it says.

        Have a great day!

        • -3

So you're basically saying that in the case of plan cancellation even in the first month. That JB Hi-Fi is giving away a $1687 smartphone for absolutely free and not seeking any money back for it?. That they are going to say no worries mate keep the expensive smartphone for absolutely free with no device repayment.

And that you only have to pay Telstra a measly $800 cancellation fee to cancel the plan. Sounds like a piss poor business decision by JB. It doesn't sound right to me there's no way that JB is going to take that loss.

Then JB is taking a hugh loss with every plan cancellation if they aren't seeking any money back for the handset. Yeah sure.

          • +1

@hollykryten: They're not giving it away for free, you pay $766 for it.
And plenty have done it before so not sure why people keep doubting it …
There used to be a time when the ETC was even lower …

But actually the less people take this up, the less chance they fix the loophole, so sure I wouldn't try if I were you..

          • @hollykryten: I think you'll find JB get a significant kickback from Telstra for selling you the plan, that's why you have to pay Telstra the voucher repayment fee.

  • No ultra deal?

    • Ultra deal is $1700 off i assume the pre order price of $2100 or so.

So pay 400 or so on day then $800 to cancel

      • Do you have a link? couldn't find it anywhere

        • Go to jb hi fi main website there is a banner that scrolls.

  • So when I cancel it won't be locked to Telstra?

  • What I don't understand is, how can you port your number, instore, before the deal ends on 13 February, when the phone's release date is 14 February?

    • The numner porting is related to your telstra contract / sim. Nothing to do with a phone

      • Oh ok. So you go in today and port your number, and they give you the phone when it arrives on 14 February?

  • This or Pixel 9 pro?

  • -1

$100 a month, 24 month contract? Where’s the bargain here?

  • What will happen if I use the $200 code since it's $0 when signing up?

    • You cant. Need to use it on the Ultra

      • +1

" Coupon discount of $200 applies to the current ticketed pre-order price of one Samsung Galaxy S25, 25+ or Ultra phone."

The picture also clearly shows the $200 difference with any of the model.

        • Itll work off the advertised price

        • You can't deduct $200 from $0. They're not going to give you $200 to buy the phone.

  • How much if cancel within 1 month?

    • -6

If you cancel the plan you'll have to repay the cost of the handset since you broke the contract. Since the handset is currently $1687 so that's quite expensive. Basically you buy the handset outright then. So really it's a marketing trick as you're paying a hidden device repayment fee factored into the monthly $99 plan charge. In the end the handset is not really free. They're just tricking you into thinking that it's free. It's a reason why the plan is so expensive. You're making hidden device repayments with every monthly plan fee. You cancel the plan contract, you buy the phone.

      "No Lock-in Plan

Telstra's month-to-month, no lock-in mobile plans give you the flexibility to change your plan size once a month, to suit your data needs. You can also cancel your plan anytime. If you leave, simply pay out your device."

    • +2

      I believe it's $800 - ($800/24 = $33.33) = $766.66.

  • Where can I find the maximum cancellation fee being 800?

  • +1

Which is better value for money?

    S25 on $79 plan
    S25+ on $99 plan
S25 ultra on $99 plan + $437 (or $237 whatever the case may be)

They are all 512GB models and no upfront cost for the S25 and S25+.

    • +1

I ordered the s25+ today. I prefer it to the ultra, as it's a bit smaller and easier to fit in your pocket. Cheaper too.

      • If you care about camera then ultra is the only way to go.

I know someone who bought a plus, went to a concert and massively regretted it.

        • +8

Good. I can’t stand people who attend concerts only to stand there holding their phone up for the entire bloody thing.

        • +1

This is true, I went from S23U to S24 only to be disappointed in the camera. I wish Samsung do S Ultra in smaller form as well like iPhone pro model, I would be really happy if they get rid of the S-pen to make the phone smaller.

          • @yummypinacolada: I wish Samsung would do what google is doing with Pixel 9 Pro, have top specs in a smaller phone, and still have Pixel 9 Pro XL for those who want larger screen.

      • @Grandslam did you port in or signup with a new number?

        • I bought a $5 Aldi Sim, and ported across with that.

  • +1

So do you cancel the plan online right after placing the preorder in store? Or do I need to wait for the phone to arrive?

  • +13

    got this today (S25+ 512GB)

    steps:
    1. drive to aldi store and purchase $5 PAYG Starter Kit
    2. follow steps to activate sim. did this in the parking lot and it took about 5 mins to fill in customer details + 15 mins to fully activate and receive a mobile number while I was driving to JB
    3. drive to jb store. sign up to $99 plan and transfer aldi number to jb mobile. took around 20mins
    4. ~2hrs later when I got home, spoke to Telstra support via chat and cancelled the service. charged $766.59
    5. after cancelling, Telstra chat asked if there is anything else they can help with. I asked for the $99 first month to be refunded because I could use the money. they immediately obliged.

total cost in the end is Aldi PAYG $5 + Telstra cancellation fee $766.59 = $771.59. I probably spent 5hours in effort understanding this process and going through it

    many thanks to Ozbargain!

    • Do the allow port in from boost? Both boost and Aldi are telstra network. Any chance JB can cancel mobile phone after you cancel mobile no as the phone is not delivered yet and JB has access to the cancelled numbers?

      • +1

        Did you read the post?-

‡Available to port-in customers only (excluding JB Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra or Boost).

    • Also did this today, but they would not refund the $99 first month. $870 is still not too bad.

    • probably the clearest explanation I've seen on this thread. What do you suspect would've been your cost had you have done everything exactly the same but rather opted for an Ultra 512GB?

      • +1

The above plus $437 upfront cost unless you cand find the $200 JB voucher to stack (+$237)

    • Thanks for the info, can I ask how this works given you haven't got the phone yet? Is that just purely via JB with no Telstra involvement?

      • You need to contact Telstra to cancel the plan and pay your $771-$870 termination fee to them, otherwise you are stuck paying the $99 for 2 years.

        • $870 that's a new one lol

          • +1

@CodeXD: That's what someone got charged above in the comments. $771+$99 as they wouldn't refund his first $99 monthly fee.

            • @Spizz: Ah I see. The $99 is actually paid on the day you sign up, so it is not part of the termination fee.

    • +1

But, when do you get your phone? Wonder if JB can see the cancellation status and reject it.

    • Thanks for the clear explanation!
So is the last step for you just picking up the phone when it comes into jbhifi?

      • yes. S25 pre-orders pick ups started from today. I received an SMS this morning confirming it's ready to be picked up and now have the phone

  • I am so confused why you have chance talk to Telstra to cancel the mobile service straightly after you signed contract with JB? I mean i understand JB mobile is based on Telstra network but the user' account information is managed by JB but not Telstra, right? Like if you are on woolies mobile plan you can not ask Telstra to cancel your plan by passing Woolies account management right?

    • It's a JB branded plan, but managed by Telstra. You can login to the Telstra members site or the JB mobile site. The JB mobile site provides more info such as amount of data used. Both use the same Telstra ID.

  • Can an Aldi sim definitely be used to port?

    • Yes. See above. I was told by the JB guy don't use Woolworths to port as they take ages.

    • Aldi definitely can, and the cheapest option out there.

With Optus $2 SIM u need to buy $12 credit to activate.

The SIM needs to be activated and able to receive SMS as they going to send you OTP to verify when doing porting.

  • +1

Just a question on cancelling the contract, do you have to activate the Telstra sim before cancelling? How much time do you need before porting and cancelling?

    • +1

Don't activate and use the sim. Just use the "My Telstra" app and chat. Once you've signed the contract, leave JB Hifi store, you can cancel the contract straight away in the parking lot.

  • Hi, is the jb phone imei locked. As an assistant said it would be and ill need to pay a fee….?

    • No, the phone is the same stock as if anyone walked in there and said they want to purchase the phone outright. They go get it off the back shelf and that's it. The phone isn't linked to the plan, only the voucher that you pay for it with.

  • +1

    Oh well, I have scored!

got the deal, canceled with Telstra,

Thank you for the confirmation, XXX.

Once I raise a request to cancel the service number you will receive a invoice pop up with your mail within 24-48 business hours and you can pay for it.

We'll send an invoice to XXXXX@XX*****.com.au . We'll debit the amount from your default payment method if you haven't paid within 10 days.

I will help you with refund$99 to your account you will receive with in 3-5 business days.

Please confirm if you want me to proceed?

So $$766.59 for new S25+ what a great deal!

    • +1

what did you say in the chat to get the $99 refunded as well?
I've tried 3 times via chat on the phone app and on the website and each agent says they won't refund the $99

      • I've tried 2 different one. First one said no. Tried again in couple of hours, also said no.
But i just mentioned it was day 1, haven't used a single data and kinda ask a favour nicely.
Then agent turned around and said lets see what they can do and did the refund :)

        • Yep same, I said that I hadn't used any data or calls, and I'd only signed up earlier that day.

  • FYI the $99 refund is completly dependant on the CSO you get, I could not find one to agree to it.

    • did you proceed with cancellling, or are you continuing to try the get the $99 refunded?

      • Tried multiple agents, they would not budge. Kept referring to my chat history.

        Yes cancelled

  • +1

All done. Got the refund on the 99$ as well. Did through chat 1 hour after purchase, no questions asked. Just mentioned i havnt used the service yet.

They said you can do this without porting a number through, but will cost 100$ more. I just did the Aldi thing.

    Thanks OP!

  • +1

Looks like the Telstra CSOs have caught on to the $99 return. They keep referring me back to JB Hifi to ask them for my months return back. Said if JB put a note on my account to authorise a return then they can do it.

I may be unlucky, seems like the same person who chatted me yesterday evening is somehow the person I had this morning too. Agents putting in long shift…

Has anyone had luck today doing it?

  • Hi all. Ive read all the various posts. But im still concerned that if cancell will be charged the $1700 (for the ultra deal). Reading the website this value replaces the dollar value of the $800 on the telstra t&cs. I was also told this by a store employee….. Help im so confused.

  • +1

just a quick question to 'cancel' can you just port out your number to another provider? via say a $2 buck sim?

    • +2

Yes you can, but if you're trying to save a buck or two, you can cancel for free via telstra app chat without buying another sim.

  • Anyone get there phone yet ?

    • +1

Just picked mine up. No issues, but going to wait until my case arrives until I use it. No hurry, still using my s22+.

  • -5

Can you return the phone for a JB gift card?

    So basically pay $800 + $99 for a $1,687 JB gift card?

And is there any limit to how many times you can use this offer?

    • +3

Don't abuse this, otherwise it will be taken away to the detriment of everyone.

  • +4

    If this interests anyone.
I was denied the $99 refund, even after I gave a sob story. However I then asked if they could credit my telstra account instead. They said "No worries, Let me see if i can help you out with this, can you please share me a screenshot of the payment".
So this might be a viable refund option for those who have telstra accounts with them.

    • +1

      Good idea.

Telstra credit can then be used to pay off the cancellation fee so works out the same as refund back to you anyway

      • Great point.
Unfortunately/fortunately for me, I actually haven't been charged the $99 yet, so I'm unable to provide a screenshot of the payment (I didn't realise until I went looking for the receipt).
I guess I've got to hold off on the request until I do get charged.

  • Anyone collected their phone?

  • +2

All done, phone was available immediately in store (S25+) cancelled immediately, no $99 refund. Bit of fluffing around but worth it for $866 I reckon.

    • Which store?

    • have you got the phone now?

  • Do the phones still retain warranty with this method ?

    • Yes, the phones are provided with a jb hifi receipt.

  • -1

I'm kinda looking for a large data plan for cheap.
from what I can see this plan is 99x24 which is 2376.
It comes with a free phone value 1700.
The difference is 676/24 months is $28 per month for 300gb of data.
Will it be hard to sell the phone?
Can I get a $1700 JB voucher instead of this phone?
