I would only recommend klook if you want to use it on one device (it is cheap and fast). Klook wouldn't let me hotspot though, which was frustrating.
That seems odd.

I used this one in December. No issues with it
I used this one too late last year in Japan with no issues
how many GB is ideal for 2 weeks trip? obviously will NOT stream anything like youtube tiktok netflix spotify etc while outside.
We surprisingly found 10GB plenty, using accomodation for wi-fi and uploading pictures, browsing etc.
10gb for 2 weeks in japan? ok thanks
There's free wifi basically everywhere in the cities. I only used the mobile data for google maps and translate really.
+1 Going to HK in April too and will likely go with Travelkon
travelkon docomo-iij https://www.travelkon.com.au/product/japan-esim-docomo-iij/
I would get the other one that doesn't go via HK just so you don't have to deal with random quirks that may impact using websites. I used this exact one and had problems with some of my normal logins/apps.
Last time I used Travelkon the data usage was a little clunky, I had to enter in a few details before getting updated stats - a stand alone portal or web app would help
Just get one that uses NTT-Docomo (IIJ uses it also)
Install AirAlo App from Appstore and you can find the best deal there and easy eSim setup.
Used Roamless and it worked fine.
KKDay had the best option I found. Docomo, 1GB per day with speed shaping to 384kbps after (so you’re never without data), under $1 per day.
Their price on 2GB per day and Unlimited plans was also pretty competitive.
384kbps —> still okay for google mapping and maybe browse restaurants review and of course whatsapp wechat line and emails
Sorry the above is a question as im worry that speed is too slow.
It's enough for basic browsing. It's slow, yes, but as long as you're not hitting your data cap every day it won't be an issue. We had 1GB per day services, running google maps all day and didn't notice a problem. As long as you're not streaming media over it you should be ok.
Some services cut the data off after your data cap is reached for the day. At least with this eSim you can still browse even if it is slow, which is a bonus.
@Spun: Thanks will get that for next march trip!
I’ve used Ubigi for my last two trips to Japan. Has worked great:

Im currently using the free 2GB from Hubby posted on OzB a while ago (probably too late to get now).
Also have a couple of GB left on roamless from previous free offers. That should be enough for 2 weeks for me. Im inclined to go with roamless if Irun out and need to pay as I like the concept of no expiry and no restriction on what country it can be used in.
From a forum that I read when you wanted to queue in Tokyo DisneySea (which is what I'm planning to do in April), best get an esim with Softbank network back-end (instead of NTT Docomo network); otherwise it'll be like a snail during park queue
Could someone please share your experience with this?
Thank you!
We had Docomo eSims from KKDAY (see my comment above) and we had 3 Disney days where we queued and had zero problems.
Day 1 and day 3 were Disney Sea and we easily were able to secure Fantasy Springs ride reservations as we entered the gates.
Day 2 was Disneyland and similar story. Speed was fine and the TDR app worked perfectly.
Free 1 gb offer here. Currently working well for me in Tokyo and nikko. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/890231#comment-16205141
Just don't use Flexiroam e-sim it dropped out around 20-30% of the time when I was in Osaka and Kyoto
Very annoying when you need to bust out your QR code tickets that refreshes like every 30 seconds
klook
