In my opinion, Compare the Market (CTM) promotions take too long to qualify.

Regarding health insurance, much more would be saved simply by regularly churning through the health fund promotional offers, cutting out the CTM delays.

Further, these third-party commission deals introduce additional complexity in the join and promotion qualification process.

It's a 'no deal' ✋ from me, at least in respect of health insurance.

Anyone else been unable to receive the verification email from TopCashback to set up their account? I am finding it incredibly frustrating…

Hi. You’ve possibly got TCB blacklisted in your email settings. Please send an enquiry via this link and you’ll get a response within 24 hours for a manual verification. Else PM me your TCB email address and I’ll do it tomorrow morning as I’m not at home right now. Cheers.

      • Hi tightarse, I've sent you a PM, thanks!

Can you actually buy through compare the market without having to talk to a sales representative?

    • Yes, just did it.

  • Will this stack with the current Medibank offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/889448?

    • Medibank is listed on CTM as one of the health insurance providers it deals with

      • I get that, but we need code 8WEEKSPLUS to take advantage of the Medibank offer, is the code approved/listed by TopCashBack?

        • +1

That was meant to be is not listed. So wouldn't work.

Has to be mentioned in fine print when you do the comparison. They used to combine the free week offers but they rarely do this now.

You are better off churning directly with free weeks as CTM does not list all the available extras policies if you are picky with optical, health management etc and if you change policy after signing up it may invalidate the claim.

I only use CTM TCB offers when there are no free week options but there are a few now and medibank one is reasonable enough

  • So what is the verdict, use CTM TCB offer to churn to Medibank? I need to move on from Bupa.

Is this mostly for self-employed people?

My comprehensive car insurance is due for renewal soon. I looked into this offer, but even after factoring in the cashback, it turns out to be $50–$100 more expensive than my current renewal options, strange.

Was curious so did a test on CTM. Put all my details in and quote came back as $479 per annum for Woolworths Everyday Comprehensive. So I followed the link and put in all the same details again and at the end $761 per annum!

    • +8

      Yes.
$266 direct with Woolies, $313 via TCB (for third party car with the same excess).

$604 direct vs $710 via TCB for comprehensive capped at 10,000 km's (this does get a $150 cashback though).

That earns the offer a neg from me.

      • Always a catch :(

      • Wow, are you saying that use of TopCashback results in higher cost? If so, that is concerning.

        • You come out ahead if you can make use of this offer (buy a comprehensive policy), but lose if you pick a policy that doesn’t qualify for the offer (third party). Not only do you not get a cash back (which is perfectly reasonable), but you actually pay more for exactly the same policy.

So I could see a person choosing third party if comprehensive was too expensive, TCB would still get a cut for the lead and the buyer pays more. In fact all policy holders pay more as all these cash backs and payments to the cash back sites have to be paid somehow.

@wfdTamar: "In fact all policy holders pay more as all these cash backs and payments to the cash back sites have to be paid somehow."
You can apply that to all cashback products in the long term.

        • Seems similar to travel sites likes Expedia, agoda etc.
Although with those you pay more upfront, if your cash back tracks and you end up slightly ahead overall after waiting months. So it's a bit questionable whether it's worth all the effort.

Yes, which is why I never use these types of sites.

            Not worth the hassle.

          • @Pufff: I have recived over $8k in expedia cashbacks… I have checked before the 15% cash back on deals … the price was the same on expedia before and during increased cash backs

CTM is terrible don't deal with them. Save your time, effort and most importantly personal details.

  • I’ve had the opposite experience with them. Used their home loan service got a 2k rebate.

Used a few insurances using TCB which resulted in around 350 CB in total. No hassles what so ever. I do always check whether the insurance costs minus CB is lower than just getting them straight

  • Thank OP, just saved ~$200 off after cashback vs renewal.

CTM quotes were cheaper than renewal offer and a couple quotes I'd looked up manually, and I'll get $150 cashback (hopefully it tracks).

  • Good start, it tracked.
Bad part, it tracked at $110 despite purchase being made before the cutoff.
    Support ticket time 😔

    • Same. Bought a comprehensive policy and tracked $110 instead of $150 and the policy purchase amount is also wrongly reported by CTM. Total policy purchase was about $1100, and they only reported $270

      • Weird, my purchase amount reported a very low number too, although in theory shouldn't impact fixed rate cashback (which hopefully will be corrected from $110 to $150).

      Confirms what I said above:

      Not worth the hassle.
