$260 RRP. for a sandal.. Even circa $127. Wowsers.

I agree $260 is a bit of a rip but $127 feels reasonable for a quality German made sandal. I practically live in my Arizona's

        $40 for Archies makes $127 look ridiculous…

$4 for double buckle slides makes $40 look ridiculous…

Only if you ignore the quality aspect which OP specifically mentioned. See the part you missed is that Archies are more comfortable than Birks (I have them both). I also tried the Kmart slides as I wanted some cheap beach shoes but they felt exactly like $4 shoes

              @1st-Amendment: Footwear is very subjective.

I was very happy with Archies, I would recommend them and rave about them to friends.

I also used to tease my wife about her Birks until she recently got me a pair for my birthday and now I want to wear them ALL the time.

Now when I put my Archies on they feel like I’ve strapped a tired old dish sponge to the bottom of my feet. For me, there is absolutely no contest. Yes, Archie’s are better than Haviainas or other thongs but they’re not even in the same dimension as Birks.

I am someone who has big, wide and flat feet and comfortable footwear has always been an issue for me.

I will buy Birks (on discount) for the rest of my life now.

Also, as a previous long time customer of Archies, they have dropped the manufacturing quality big time, similar to what Step One has done.

There are these $4 Double Buckle Slides at Kmart at the lower end of the spectrum.

@ihfree: I have a genuine pair of Birkenstocks and they are the most uncomfortable sandals I've ever owned. And yes, I gave them enough time to adjust to my foot shape. Must be a personal thing.

@bio: Yeah, there are a few foot types that don't work well with Birkenstocks. They work well for me - Arizonas have been my go to shoes this summer. May also be worth looking at how the straps are adjusted depending on what issues you're having.

      • …at the lower end of the spectrum

Mate you found the bottom, and then started digging.

Those are truly one step above wearing breadbags on your feet.

Were you hiding under a rock during Black Friday? Copped a pair for 30% off

  • Holy crap didn’t realise the normal price for these.

Give Teva's a try instead, found them to be more comfortable for cheaper

  • It says unisex but is it really more for males or females?

    • They look unisex to me, though, obviously subjective.

    • Either

    • -1

This one is probably more for females.

The only one I kinda don't mind for males is Arizona.

      But subjective..

    • Looks like both to me

  • Love my Uji’s ❤️

Lol what? Hardly worth $15 in my opinion

    • Savage.

    • Got a recommendation instead of these?

      • Our markets are a rip off as a whole as the margins are too high. My neighbour who travelled to India last year, got us two pairs of crocs that look exactly like crocs in the link below that are selling for over a $100.

        https://shorturl.at/3NChI

They turned out to be the best and most comfortable corcs we have ever had, so we asked him how much they were as we wanted to get more. He said he had paid about $11 for each pair and they were not from a brand so online shopping was not available and the only way to get more was for him to bring or parcel them when he travels next.

So we couldnt wait as we needed some kids crocs and decided to try Shein.. bought couple of pair and they turned out to be fairly good. They are slightly cheaper than what K mart sells but the quality is far better and if you compared with a brand, then they cost about 1/4th the price of a branded one.

I've been looking I to this brand recently. For anyone interested, this is what I've discovered so far (from a digital nomad perspective):
Agree with the hype, this is a great brand. Great as a second pair of footwear for casual use, around the house, and with the ones like Milano, decent for longer walks.
-Leather was the best, but most expensive
-It was a minefield navigating their brand wording to work out which was leather and which weren't
-Why I wanted leather: more breathable than synthetic; more durable; with leather the age better as they take on a better look over time compaired to synthetic.
-For hot /humid environments and for someone needed a firm sole for support (such as plantar fasciitis) the 2 standout ones were:
—Arizona for light use (slip on/off makes it useful)
—Milano for moderate + use (do to ankle support buckle)
—Milano: great all round as an loosen the ankle buckle and use as slip on style and then tighten when using for longer walking needs.

my problem with Arizona is the rear of the sole wearing with my use and finally becoming slippery and dangerous on wet surfaces - I've nearly wrenched an inner thigh muscle a few times like that

now I wear my Keens sandals every day instead with a more grippy sole

the other problem with Birks is the cupped innersole that collects small stones so when walking on gravelly surfaces I often have to lift up my foot to try to shake out a small stone that's gotten under my foot painfully

and frankly, they're not that comfortable with the fairly rigid sole that doesn't flex the way most shoe soles do as you walk - which probably also contributes to what I said above - the rear of the sole wearing smooth and becoming slippery when wet …
