Healthy cereal. Hmmm
Healthier*
Contents are 85% bran which is not too bad
Seriously, what's better if you want the high fibre?
I have the Woolies Bran and add in 50-100g mixed berries.oats
cool I'm getting downvoted for suggesting someone eat oats for breakfast rofl
@specwarop: there are a thousand ways to get more fiber in your diet than eating an ultraproceed cereal with a teaspoon of added sugar - oats will have about 5g of fibre on their own with zero added sugar, add some chia seeds, some fruit if you want and baby you got a stew going
@hyperfuzz: Oats are healther but. You still need to process them yourself. (Cook) :) People like fast food and this bran VS most other things people eat is the way to go.
@vid_ghost: I don't see cooking as the same as processing a cereal at the Kelloggs factory but I understand why people would gravitate towards this. I just always advocate for something close to a wholefoods / Mediterranean diet because it's really helped me heaps mentally and physically, and oats or eggs or anything without added refined sugars as the first meal of the day always is a winner for maintaining energy levels and not feeling like I need to snack straight after. Happy to eat sugar in fruits plus occasional sauces and treats of course ☺️
@vid_ghost: You can simply soak the oats overnight to make Bircher muesli. It really takes no extra time at all and no cooking involved. You add some yoghurt, a little water, some fruit and then instead of eating it then, you leave it in the fridge overnight and eat it in the morning. While it's not instant, it takes the same amount of time in effort to do as if you were making a bowl of cereal in the morning and it's much healthier. As far as cereal goes, this bran is a slightly better one. Maybe they could remove more, or all of the sugar.
For those playing at home, @hyperfuzz, despite the negs, or in spite of the negs, is spot on with the nutritional take of using oats as a whole food base and adding other wholefoods with their own nutritional value being superior to a packaged processed cereal that will need sugar and additives to make it palatable and preserved and marketable.
Despite that, All-Bran is one of the very few cereals I will eat when away from a kitchen (i.e. can't prepare a more nutritional meal) because it is predominantly a whole food and limits the sugar compared to other cereals. But just because it's the better choice of a group of foods with a fairly poor nutritional profile (processed cereals) doesn't make it a good choice by itself.
Add chia seeds and small sliced apples with their peels on. I add granola to mine, too. Or get the ones with sultanas if you don't mind them. Bran itself is already high in fiber, but those will add extra and introduce more interesting textures to your breakfast.
Watch out you might get downvotes for this logical thinking
Whats the expiry like usually with Amazon food items?
If an item actually sells consistently, it tends to be fresh stock. If the item doesn't sell, it can get near the use-by date.
If an item has no reviews and isn't a new listing then it might be getting close to expiry. If an item that is often close to expiry does have reviews, the reviews will pretty much always mention the age of the stock.
In this particular case, if you just look at the reviews with the least stars, there is a single review from 2022 saying it didn't taste fresh, so maybe it used to be old stock but nowadays it sells to quick too get old.
I ordered 2 kellogs (other flavours) the other day. Expiry is 08-2025.
Is this any better than the home brand colesworth variants?
I find this has a softer texture to chew and is more enjoyable. Where as home brands are much harder.
I have Woolworths High Fibre Bran which is great. Not sure how it compares to All-Bran, but note the Woolworths Essentials Bran Sticks tastes like cardboard.
16% sugar, not a very healthy cereal. Anything under 10% is OK, under 5% is what you want.
The label on the box says sugar is 8% RDI…
if sugar is an actual ingredient then give it a miss (which it is here, second highest!)
Stupid metric, who even eats just 45g of cereal? I eat at least 2x as much. Also, the it seems like you are misunderstanding what RDI even means.
Rubbish. It's rated a 5 star cereal and one of the healthiest cereals out there according to nutritionists where the nutritional the digestive health benefits outweigh any negative associated with a small amount of sugar overall (7g sugar per serving).
An apple has a higher sugar content than All Bran so let's not eat them or any fruit eh?
eating fruit is not the same thing as eating an ultra proceed cereal with added sugar my dude
All commercial breakfast cereals are processed - and this one is head and shoulders above most of them in terms of health benefits for those of us who just want a quick and tasty nutritional breakfast and aren't hunter gatherers.
But you just stick to your daily bag of oats, dude.
this one is head and shoulders above most of them in terms of health
Genuine question:
Is this better for fibre than Weet-bix (or Vita-Brits or Wheat Biscuits or etc.) ?
Sugar in fruits, is different to processed refined sugar in packaged foods.
The body derives the benefits of other nutrients and fibre, while the body digests the fruit as well as extracting the sugar from the fruit.
what are you, some sort of hunter gatherer 😂
can you please share your list of cereals under 5% sugar
I have the voice of Eddie Abbew in my head telling me to wake the f up
Your comments make a lot of sense now.
He largely sucks but he’s funny
This is a regular deal
ATL price on favourite cereal
It was $2.62 (Nov 24, 2021)
I want to know why All-Bran has less fibre even with 85% Bran, when the Woolies High Fibre has more fibre but less bran (70%)
Probably because Woolies has malted barley flour as it's second ingredient, and All-Bran doesn't have malted barley flour at all. Not to be confused with barley malt extract, which is a different ingredient found in both cereals after sugar in the ingredients list.
Combo deal with Quilton
underrated comment
Lmao :))))
You could combo this with any of the Dominos, Maccas, HJs deals, etc. The popularity suggests there's some jammed up blokes on here for sure.
Full of sugar
Did you say tall Jan is malicious?
No, I said all-bran is delicious
Wtf
Can't be delivered to regional NSW (mid North coast)
My horse loves it.
