Ah ok. Q3 is a decent leap over the 2 due to the lenses and as the PC does the heavy work there is probably no advantage in waiting for the 4 over the 3.
I agree, they improved the lenses and pass through a lot, and I reckon the 4 will have only incremental improvements in those areas
Have to agree. After holding off, got the Q3 before Christmas and it is a large jump up from Q2, also for PCVR. Just frutrated with the usual Meta BS like can't have multiple accounts on a headset easily etc.
If nothing else the adjustable IPD is much better, let alone the resolution. The pass-through is miles ahead and makes it much easier day to day.
@Thiefsie: Thats strange i had multiple meta accounts on the 2 and it was quite easy, just had to chose the account when logging on.
For those on the fence, I went from 2 (got on launch), to a 3 (just in December) and I can 100% recommend. I exclusively just do quest native now and it’s bloody awesomely

The prawn alone is well worth it.
As someone whose gamed all sorts of genres I think VR gaming has it all beat just due to the immersion factor.
Games like 11 table tennis are just mind blowingly realistic, as someone whos competed in the sport for more than half my life.

After grabbing a SLR sub on BFCM weekend my Q3 is pretty much just a full time prawn machine lmao
@Jimothy Wongingtons: Was originally only going to get 3 months to test the waters but the special was 12 months for $160 which was not much more so grabbed that and figured I'd just go ham downloading a bunch. I think lifetime was possibly around double that but @Bisky1 might be able to chime in.
It's pretty crazy stuff. The only downside are the videos are fairly generic so not a lot there if you're into anything a bit niche.

The 3 is worth every cent over the 3s.
What's the major differences?
Picture quality and Lens type is different, if you are using it as a passthrough from your PC then Quest 3 will look much better
get 3 as 3s lens is blur and create difficulty
The lenses and screen on 3S is pretty much the same as the Meta 2.
From my perspective (mostly media consumption) this is a huge drawback and basically no upgrade.
Honestly, apart from the colour pass-through, I do not see any reason for anyone to upgrade from 2 to 3S.
The 3 although is a different fish. Much better picture quality. I upgraded from 2 to 3 and it is worth it.
That's a lot of headset for the price.
VR still only has a few killer full-length AAA games, but going from no VR headset to a Quest 2/3 has the amazing leap-ahead wow-factor that you used to get when you bought a new console or GPU 20 years ago (that you no longer get from upgrading those).
Which games are the killer apps?
Half life Alyx, Asgards wrath, Batman, stalker, bonelab or if you ask my kids…..gorilla tag 😀.

offtopic but i got the zenni prescription lenses for the quest 3 and holy s it's a game changer. it's like wearing contacts. Highly recommend.

Generally yes. Games aren't that big. Batman is 19GB.
Medal of Honor is the most egregious at 43GB

3s sucks ass, might as well be a quest 2. spend extra for quest 3 worth it imo, less strain on your eyes, higher quality image
You guys need to play Aliens Rogue Incursion. Bloody insane game. Yes there are flaws in the game but you only need to a few moments of chefs kiss Aliens killing action.

I tend to agree. The O3s is going to be better than the O2 as it has more powerful hardware and GPU and colour pass through etc..Hardware for the most part on the O3s is very similar to the O3. Major difference would be the "Lens Types" (& Q3s lacks a headphone jack)
Lens Type Difference:
- Oculus 3 has Pancake lenses and 2 x LCD displays. Res of 2064 x 2208 @ 120Hz
- Qculus 2 and the 3s uses Fresnel Lenses and 1 x display. Res of 1832 x 1920 @ up to 120Hz.
The O3s does however have a better processor compared to O2 so displays a tad better due to faster rendering capabilities. Just not as good as O3

Save up and get the Oculus 3 @ $799 if budget permits. The difference is noticeable.
Would this be an overkill for VR tourism - galleries, museums and scenic locations?
See my comment above about Lens types. I'd save and get the Oculus 3 as the clarity difference with pancake lenses is very noticeable when looking around galleries etc.
Having said that it also comes down to the quality of the pictures or streams that are being viewed. My opinion only of course and plenty of YouTube comparison reviews out there comparing the two. This one does a reasonable job showing this Quest 3 vs.Quest 3S.
If you own nothing then perhaps try a second hand Oculus 2 to see if you like it from the get go. Things still look great but research before making the decision. :-)

Media in general, not just your's kind, are way better on 3. For media consumption 3S is pretty much the same as 2. If that is your main concern, either spend half for secod hand 2, or add few more $ to get full 3 (this is the better option)
They’re okay not wow . Watching youtube or other media stuff (I use streamio) is awesome too
Is this any good? How's long run when gaming over these? Are they not heavy? I had the Google ones before and they were not practical. These ones are expensive and you don't want to buy only to realise they are not for you
Plenty of YouTube reviews out there. Perhaps, check a few out and then decide if it meets your specific needs Most will answer your questions better the we can here as you get to see them rather then via a few words here.
quest 3 or nothing, 3s and 2 and even PCVR2 are all crap, cant wait for 4, I think that or 5 will be where it will be an essential piece of equipment
Im going to go against the grain here. I bought a 2 off marketplace for $240 and its been fantastic. I wear glasses so got some prescription lenses for it off ali express (about $40) and bought a new strap for it. It is an awesome bit of kit. I loved it so much about 3 months later I got a Quest 3 for $400 off marketplace (an old one with limited storage). I think I had 95% as good a time on the quest 2 as I did on the quest 3. For anyone thinking about it - I would trawl for a second hand quest 2 on marketplace. Even in adelaide - you can get them for under $250. At least see if you will use the thing before you drop 800 bucks on a quest 3.
Not at all against the grain if one doesn’t own anything. I think many points above relate to the 3 being much better than the 3s (better off saving and buy the 3).
The Quest 2 is still a great bit of kit especially if new to the Virtual world and buying 2nd hand. Great value. I have Q2 and the 3 and still happily use the Q2.
Quest 4 release date end of 2026? Why wait that long?
