I figured with all the recent headphone deals this might be helpful for the OzB clan travelling in the near future.

Device looks pretty generic but apparently comes with approval from Sony; https://store.sony.com.au/special-products/BTTRANSMITTERW.ht…

RRP is exaggerated but the fact it can connect directly to two (2) devices and has an easy to read battery status helped me decide to pull the trigger.

Current price on camels appears to be its equal ATL although it normally hovers a tad higher.

Black is also available for less than a couple duckets more: https://www.amazon.com.au/MEE-audio-Bluetooth-Transmitter-He…

Device looks pretty generic but apparently comes with approval from Sony

Will they work with Airpods Pro though? Many don't…

Yes. I've had one for two years used on multiple international airlines and they work really well with airpods. Connects easily, low latency, long battery life (lasts whole flight Australia to Europe). Only issue is of the airplane side, you sometimes have to fiddle with the insertion of the cable to get it to hit the set spot to be stereo. Some planes no issue, others a little fiddly. But that's the issue of the plane and their ports, not this device, as it'll be the same issue for all similar devices.

This kind of thing is usually around $15 on ebay, AliExpress etc. I've bought an expensive one ($70ish) and a cheap one ($15) and the sound quality from an aeroplane entertainment system stays pretty much the same - OKish

This works just as well if you don't need to connect two devices

      Bought recently for $5.
Not low latency audio - ok for music. But will be lag. So won't sync with movies.

Probably worth mentioning that the MEE audio one supports aptX-LL for low-latency audio with headphones/earphones that support it. Cheap ones usually don't.

I’ve had this for about 4 months now and use it 3 - 4 times per week at the gym to connect my air pods pro to the gym equipment entertainment systems, and it works flawlessly every time. Oh, and I also haven’t had to charge it yet, which is surprising!

    • i bought one for travelling a while ago and recently was thinking about using it for the treadmill, good to know they work

These look worth it if you use dual connections, especially if the lag is less than mine.
I have one from ebay that was about $15 after coupon codes which has 11hr battery life and a tolerable but noticeable lag.
There are even cheaper ones but they often don't remember paired devices nor have a USB-C charging port.

    • A latency test with my ebay bluetooth transmitter and Soundcore Liberty 4 NC earbuds was about 180-200ms.
Just earbuds connected by bluetooth direct to a MacBook had 100ms latency.
I wonder what the MEE Audio and AirPods Pro latency would be?

    Input is only the 3.5mm?

Be cool if something did 3.5mm input and Bluetooth input. I could do 1 to 2 Bluetooth as well.

  • Can anyone recommend some low latency NC earbuds good for flying / paired with something like this?

    • Just buy these and connect it by wire

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/285807023185

It comes with a 3.5mm cable and an adapter for the older airplanes with 2 pin connection

      • Does the built-in ANC work by wire?

        • Yes, it works even if you aren't connected to an audio source at all.
