Disputing Not Parallel Park in Direction of Travel

Image for reference:

I disputed this but wanted OzBargain's thoughts - was this a valid parking spot (<5 mins)?

It's a $320 fine with the reason 'Not Parallel Park in Direction of Travel' with the parking sign right there and the car behind the no stopping sign. The other side of the alley is no stopping signs so I couldn't have parked on that side.

he correct side of the road had trucks parked continuously for 30m on either side of the place I was going to, due to construction

If you do a U turn, the wrong side of the road will be the correct side.

  • time parked irrelevant and yes you are illegally parked. Would not expect you have much of a leg to stand on.

  • It was a valid parking spot

Until you parked in it facing the wrong direction

  • Very dangerous and deserving of a fine. You should know people can't see a car if it's facing the wrong way 😅

    • You should see how they react when you reverse.

It was great living in the UK and being able to park on the 'wrong' side of the road.
Unfortunately for OP this is not UKbargain!

  • You lost your chance for all day parking

  • this is why rich people are rich

  • What exactly are you disputing? That it's OK parking there for 5 mins? …. Fine unheld. Pay it and move on.

  • Time doesn't come into it, nothing comes into other than the fact you put your car there.

Take the fine on the chin and move on. Consider it an expensive lesson.
I've seen parking rangers in my area fine drivers for the same thing. You need to park in a direction that moves with the traffic.

I don't think the rule is always necessary personally (i.e in a big old quiet country town at 11pm at night - you probably wouldn't be fined there either), but parking in the wrong direction infers you've driven into the oncoming traffic lane to park, and you will need to drive back into oncoming traffic again to head with the flow of traffic.

  • Ah a Merc Driver.
Sir! If you see workers fixing a pothole, please feel good that your 320$ charity fixed that road for everyone.
May your benevolence remain for eternity.

You can only park on the left side of the road in the direction you are travelling. If you wanted to park where you did, you needed to do a u-turn and park there. A car cannot cross oncoming traffic when leaving a parking spot.

      He can.

      He drives a Merc'.

OP is either full-on stupid or a troll.

  • two way road?

  • Park on wrong side of the street, I want to report my neighbours too

  • My brother once parked across from his own house in Blackburn, facing the wrong way. He got a fine for "too far from curb" 🤣🤣

I drive pass this all the time and see vehicles parked like yourself and I see officers booking people all the time there when the car is "Not Parallel Park in Direction of Travel"…..

Officers LOVE to hide around the corner and catch people out and time the 5 min mark… it's easy money for them. Scums

The greediness of councils has gone through the roof. How is this threatening or so illegal to deserve a $320 fine?

    • Imagine parking in opposite direction on multilane road and trying to leave the kerb in peak morning traffic
