        • +2

If there was a what would it be cancellation?

        • The cancellation fee is a prorated amount on the $1000 discount. It would be something like ($1000 - (#months_remaining/24)).
The good guys had a similar deal but had a plan with a 1-month minimum

      • +1

What might the cancellation fees be?

          What art thou cancellation fee?

      • What are the fees I want to cancel cost?

    • +1

Would it be less than $746 as the current plan is $79 instead of $99

    • The Ts and Cs say:
What happens when I cancel my plan early?
You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received when you purchased your plan. The Voucher Repayment Fee (if applicable) is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term.

      • Maximum voucher repayment fee is still $800 as per the critical information summary. So that part of the terms and conditions apply, but it is $800/24 and multiplied by months remaining.

      • +2

Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee is $550.

        • +2

How is this different to previous deals?

        • +6

So total cost is $697+550+(1 month plan $79)?

          • +1

            @xtraricepls: kinda expensive

          • +2

@xtraricepls: They gon charge you min $1250 to $1350 one way or another.
Basically what I paid for the 7 pro and I think I paid a bit too much.
These Google phones are a nightmare to use during summer.

          • @xtraricepls: The voucher repayment fee is in $550 if you immediately cancel the contract, so if you pay the first month of the plan, you're not paying the first month allocation of the voucher fee ($22.92).

Apparently it's best to cancel via JB over the phone so the direct debit gets cancelled/refunded, but this price is not worth it and there were better deals a month ago, better deals again at launch.

This is just JB's marketing team dressing up a weak voucher deal after two major sales periods.

    • What sort of fees for cancellation?

    • Cancel cost how much?

  • +9

Maximum voucher repayment fee for the $79 plan is $550

why do they make 128GB? 256GB should be the standard.

    • +7

A reason to upcharge a realistic person.

    • +24

Because Google want you to rent cloud storage from them instead of using the phone's memory.

      • +4

Yup, Google is just following Apples storage model to put everyone on monthly subscription storage for life.

      • +4

Which is unfortunate but in some ways it's worth having it as a backup. I'm a heavy user and have had no issues with 128gb on my 7 Pro, relying on Google photos for storage. On a family 2tb plan paying locally (no overseas workaround) it costs me about $20yr, which isn't too far off the cost of hard storage backups.

        • +2

I'm assuming it works out about 20 because you're sharing the costs with family? A 2tb plan on google one is a bit over 12 dollars a month (slightly cheaper for an annual plan)

    • +1

So you consider a new device sooner. That’s what has settled unfortunately

      • No, because this Pixel phone will have several years of OS upgrade. Then people don't have to consider a new device sooner.

The real reason is it's part of Google strategy, so more people will keep paying and use its cloud storage (Google One) as long as possible. It's the same with Apple's devices.

    • shrinkflation…

This phone was $1297 last week also OW had 256 GB for 1298 (only one color) . All expired now but current price is rip off.

Spewing I missed out on this one! Gonna hold until it's this price again.

      • +1

The dollarydoo was hovering around 0.70USD when that deal was planned. I wouldn't expect to see it again until China's economy recovers.

Coal and iron ore and hence demand for the AUD has fallen off a cliff in the last two quarters.

        • +2

Why are we giving them things for cheap then and few of them for free like Gas

          • +7

@urahara: Libs like to give away our national assets and call it good money management

            • -1

@crentist: We are not giving away anything for free. Please read some facts before ignorantly spreading mis-information.

See how Coal & Gas are our 2nd and 3rd biggest exports, bringing in around $177 billion, which Labor/Green want to ban. If they have it their way, our dollar will be at 0.20 USD. Meanwhile, Asian customers (China, S Korea & Japan) have alternate sources (Russia, Middle East and USA etc) for coal & gas. It won't make any difference to the world but we will wreck our economy in the process.

Odd, says here that "Anthony Albanese rules out banning fossil fuel projects, citing risk to Australian economy".
And just in October this article discusses "the expansion of three Australian coalmines, approved by the Labor government last week".

Seems very much like misinformation to suggest that Labor is banning anything…

And looking into where all that export money goes… it appears that “90% of WA’s gas is exported, mostly royalty free”.
And that "the world's biggest resource companies have earned around $138 billion in revenue here without paying a cent in corporate income tax". Same article says that we made $800 million in royalties for the same amount of gas that Qatar made $26.6 billion off.

Just because they did a U-turn doesn't mean it wasn't their policy.

Same article says that we made $800 million in royalties for the same amount of gas that Qatar made $26.6 billion off.

I agree that Australia is being ripped off. But Labor hasn't done much to fix this rort either.

Besides my original point still stands that exports (regardless of corporate taxes or royalties) keep the local currency strong.

                  • @dealhunter52: Was that your point? That high exports are good even if we don't make money off it? I thought you were disagreeing about whether we are giving things away, now you're agreeing that we are, but it's not a bad thing?

And somehow that keeps our currency strong? But your post immediately below this says that our dollar has been weak and continues to be very vulnerable.

And is Labor banning them or not doing enough to rein them in?

You're all over the place mate.

                    • @crentist:

Point was strength of the currency and how exports help it. For not getting taxes and royalties from Gas industry, you pointed out that Liberals are to blame and I pointed out that Labor has done nothing in their term to stop the rort.

Yes, Gas industry should be paying taxes and royalties regardless of whoever is running the government. It is still a net benefit to the country as it brings Forex that keep AUD strong and employs 1000's of Australian workers who pay taxes.

And somehow that keeps our currency strong?

Yes, 0.62 cents is weaker than 0.70 USD, but still way better than 0.20 USD, where it will end up with if we don't export resources. We don't have much manufacturing industry or any other industry that can replace that export revenue (forex).

But your post immediately below this says that our dollar has been weak and continues to be very vulnerable.

Do you know anything about monetary policy or economy? How Central Bank interest rates affect the currency? If not, go read basic economics. I'm not here to provide free economics lessons.

And is Labor banning them or not doing enough to rein them in?

You're the one who was blaming Libs for everything while Labor has done nothing to fix anything.

        • +5

AUD never touched 0.70 USD in 2024. At it's highest, it was around 0.69 USD in late Sep/early Oct.

If we have RBA rate cut in Feb, it might drop below 0.60 USD. Since don't manufacture much and import 90% of the stuff, everything is going to be more expensive.

    • Yeah, how is this a good deal?

  • +8

Wtf since when didi Google Pixel phones get this expensive?

    • Latest release version always at peak price, which then drops as it ages. Pixel 8 can be had now for about $800. It was $1200 on release. The pro was $1700 (parity with above price). Can be had now for just over $1k

    • +1

Since they went pro… You can still get a normal pixel 9 for RRP of $999, less on sale.

You mainly miss out on a bit better screen (though still very good), a better selfie camera, a zoom camera on the back and 4GB more ram.

  • +3

Had me in the first half. Lost me in the second

  • 128gb no thanks

    • What do you need all that storage for? Honest question. I have 128 and have 50% free space. I don't game on my phone though so that may be it

      • All sorts, my current phone is 256gb and currently at about 200gb used

        • Is it games? Or you take a lot of HD videos? Genuinely curious.

  • I just swapped provider a few weeks ago. Am I eligible for the voucher if I port back?
