      • So if we are lucky to score the 1619 games version, or get a copy of the SD card, is that good to go or does it still need tweeks?

    • +4

Any chance you could make a copy of the SD card image and share it here please!

      • does anyone know what are the rules about sharing copies of old old old arcade ROMs - is it still illegal?

        • +1

I have the 1619 one and all the top games seem to be missing, so I would assume Jaycar removed any they thought would cause licence issues. Otherwise its been sold as an Austrian retail version and only of use to someone with the matching hardware, so ok in my book.

          • @cooperdog: What are the top games that are missing in your opinion? I will try to put them on

            • @freeb1e4me: Just Google the top rated games for each system, hardly any on those list there, in particular the Nintendo and Sega ones, although I can understand Jaycar avoiding those! Pokemon, Sonic and Mario would have given their lawyers a field day.

Interestingly about 4000 images in the subfolders for many of the missing games.

      • +2

If you have a good option for sharing a 17Gb file? Or 32Gb uncompressed happy to help, I have the 1619 one.

    • +1

you've given me hope to open mine and boot it up !!!

    • I just hooked mine up and could see 1619 games

It’s better but it’s still hard press to find over 50 good games. They also deliberately name the games differently to avoid trouble like ghost busters is now devil busters.

  • +8

I brought 2 yesterday, both have 1619 games, though one card had errors and not all games would load. In the process of making an image of the good card.

    • Whats the sku on the box.

      • Looks like only a UPC no. 9319236779163

    • +1

Hey, i have the same but must of the games dont load, could you give me a copy of the working one?

      • +5

Archive.org has a back up, search GT 4286 games

  • I am a disappointed member of the ~157 games SD, if you can make me happy PM pls.

  • Is there any way to tell if you get the 1500 games or the 157 games console?

    • +1

I think you pretty quickly realise you have the ~157 SD when you dont reconise any of the included games :)

    • +2

I got lucky with the 1619 games, Barcode is 9 319236 779163 and its a GT4286. I can't see any other identifiers on the external box.

      • I'm part of the 157 games club and my box has the same barcode and model number. 😞

        • It’s a bloody lottery

  • whats a good site for me to goto to look at repurposing old windows tablet PCs and setup a desktop arcade? I have a single player joystick of some sort that I will rewire with one of those USB joystick encoders.

  • Plugged it in, runs some version of Android, didn't expect that. Will report back whenever I load it up with roms.

    Thanks again OP.

  • I thought I would try to see if I could get it to load an Android version of "Emuelec" from a fresh SD card seeing it's some sort of Android board inside but I've had no luck with the few images I've tried. My attempts were with both generic "rockchip" and "amlogic" images available but none would boot. I'm no Emuelec expert though and I perhaps missed something critical or picked the wrong image for this unit.

My thinking is that its board has been ripped from an old/low powered Android TV box (because they are dirt cheap, were mass produced and this thing is only powered by 5A). I've done some searches on the part numbers listed on the two boards inside the unit but that got me nowhere.

Edit: So we know there are two possible SD cards that come with this but is there a third with 2520 included games? A screenshot on page 6 of the manual suggests this.

    • +1

I notice that in the roms folder each console has a subfolder called 'image' with a lot more screenshot images than included roms. I suspect these may have been included during development, maybe they were removed after the manual was written and before production.

I tried adding some roms with the same name into the rom folder, but it didn't find them.

What did work was creating an image subfolder in the downloads folder and then copying images with the same name as the downloaded rom into there.

      • Thanks for the tip. I'll be trying to add roms but likely removing some also as I prefer not to have hundreds of games to scroll through to find something you like. It's frustrating the process isn't more user friendly seeing it's advertised on the box that we can add our own games. I can only image the struggles somebody not tech-savvy would have with this and why there would be some returns as a result.

        • +2

I haven't tried it yet, but there is a file game.db in the root folder. It contains all the games and can be edited using an SQL editor e.g. https://sqlitebrowser.org/dl/

I assume you can edit this to generate a new set of master ROMS, also hopefully fix up the display names. Even copy some jpgs into the image folder for a full personalised experience… If you have the motivation and time.

And don't forget a backup before you start in case things don't go to plan…

          • @cooperdog: Partly works, you can add/remove ROMS if you carefully edit the filenames, looks like there are requirements for the jpg images, small ones I think.

            Take care as well.

  • +3

Sorry to make a million comments but the edit window on my last one is over,

So far, everything works fine, and is surprisingly not shit (more or less lag free, even on PS1 stuff)

.GBA, .NES, .sfc, .MD, .GB, etc. all work fine without zipping. Every arcade .zip file I threw at it ran fine and worked with the second controller configured out the gate (probably will run into the 6 button issue mentioned above but not a problem for the games I wanted). PS1 I stuck with .BIN files because they were what I had on hand from another emulator (no IMG files on me at the moment) and they all ran fine. Like many of these cheap bastards though, they don't like apostrophes and the sort, so as much as it pains me to do it, if you want to play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, you'll have to call it Tony Hawks or Tony Hawk or THPS or something, the appostrophe WILL make it refuse to boot.

PS1 has an FPS reading on screen at all times in the lower left corner that I can't seem to turn off which sucks, but oh well. Other than that, and that every game will be stretched to the full length of the display, no real complaints. I look forward to a bit of split screen THPS action on a two player arcade board soon.

    • What size screen would be best given the fully stretched issue?

      • +1

Depends on the console. Got something widescreen like GBA? Fine on a bog standard modern tele (in terms of stretching anyway), original square little Game Boy though? Gonna look a bit f'd in the a. To be fair, most modern TVs do offer scaling options to combat this.

GBA looked aaaaaarse on an 86 inch, but at least it didn't look stretched horizontally.

    • horsiezoo squeezed out some performance improvements of the Playstation Emulation. Please see the discussion here.

  • They must have 11 gazillion of these things in every store. Every single store near me still has stock. Usually when it hits this site these kind of things are gone in 10 minutes.

    • +1

Out of stock in sydney stores. Just checked

    • Sold out so quickly at my local that they were fulfilling click and collect orders as I tried to grab stock Boxing Day morning. Gratefully they had a few at a nearby store and called to have one parked for me, they are selling out at some stores and not others, the site mightn’t be indicative of true stock. YMMV

    • yeah, plenty of stocks in WA as well.

      • Still lots in my local stores around North Brisbane. When I went to pick up mine yesterday the guy at the counter said they were getting hammered with orders for it and he couldn't work out why. Then he saw the price and understood why.

I still haven't opened mine yet, so I have no idea if it's a good deal or not. I've still got the relatives staying with me, and I'm guessing this is going to take some time to get it working to a decent level, so I'm waiting until they go.

Not sure the rules are here but I can supply a link for the Sd card with 1600 odd games.

    DM me for a link.

    • I'll take a link if you've got one. Thanks for doing this, but I can't DM you?

    • Great stuff, may I also request a link.

    • Any chance you could send me a link. I cant dm you as I am less then 24 hours old

  • So does the console work properly after copying the sd card that contains 1500 plus game?

    • +1

Yes. But the memort card must be fat32 formatted. Exfat will not boot

  • +4

Got all the full collections of the console systems( GBA, NES, SFC, MD, GB, GBC) working with a few cps2 and other games not booting on FBA and Mame. All console games works perfectly fine on the 32GB microSD card that came with it. I have now a total of 7500+ games including a couple of PSX games. I am using the collections from the PlayStation Classic Mini I downloaded a couple years ago from Arcade Punk. It's a great system for $49.

    • +1

Did the 7500+ games fit on the 32gb microSD card?

      • +1

Yes, with more than 600mb left on the card. I could have added another PSX game or more ROMS to it.

    • +2

      Great stuff.

According to the dat files I generated from the on card (FBNeo)[https://github.com/nk64/GT4286/blob/main/Emulators.md], it supports an number of other systems.

If you get enthusiastic enough to try some of them out, please let me know which systems ones you have success with and (I can put a tested flag against them in the repo):

      • ColecoVision
      • Sony MSX
      • Neo Geo Pocket
      • Neogeo
      • Nintendo Entertainment System
      • Nintendo Famicom Disk System
      • PC Engine
      • PC Engine SuperGrafx
      • Sega Game Gear
      • Sega Master System
      • Sega MegaDrive (AKA Sega Genesis)
      • Sega SG-1000
      • Sinclair ZX Spectrum
      • TurboGrafx-16
    • Is there a fast way of downloading a lot of emulator games on the website other than downloading one game at a time?

  • Photos attached

    • I have tried, snes roms .smc and .sfc zipped and unzipped they work fine,
put them in the downloads/sfc folder.
Have also tryed sega megerdrive roms .smd
Put them in the download/MD folder. Have not tested them zipped but I dont see why not.

Will test some more as I go.

But the FC (short for famicon, the Japanese name of the system) folder is Nintendo entertainment system.
Bba and gbc and gb folders are for game boy advance, gameboy colour and game boy roms respectively

  • +2

I have now seen 4 generations of SD Card (not 100% sure if I can stand behind the dates):

    • 2023-05-25: 1619 Games

      • /ui/gamelist.txt contains 1619 lines
      • /game.db contains 1619 builtin games
      • /roms contains a total of 1619 files

    • 2023-06-01: 1612 Games (7 rom files removed, no change to menu and emulators)

      • /ui/gamelist.txt contains 1619 lines
      • /game.db contains 1612 builtin games
      • /roms contains a total of 1612 files

    • 2024-05-26: 157 Games (Updated Menu and Emulators)

      • /ui/gamelist.txt contains 157 lines
      • /game.db contains 157 builtin games
      • /roms contains a total of 157 files

    • 2024-07-22: 157 Games (1 PS1 Game has been renamed to remove a full stop in the name)

      • /ui/gamelist.txt contains 157 lines
      • /game.db contains 157 builtin games
      • /roms contains a total of 157 files

Have you uploaded the image of each sd card?

      • Only the first two are available online so far AFAIK.

        • Interested in a copy of the 157 if the emulators are updated?

          Anyone investigated adding more emulators?

        • Can you add your own roms to the versions with 1500+ games?

          • +1

@freeb1e4me: I expect so, they don't look that different, and they do have a download folder like the newer 157 ones, but I haven't tried because of the time it will take to write 8G to my SD Card using my USB 2 reader.

It is possible that there is a difference in the main menu program (/bin/gmenu2x) that means the 'add your own roms' feature was neutered.

Please report back if you get a chance to try.

            • +3

@nk64: It only took 2 hours to copy to my SD Card.

The answer is that yes you can add your own roms with the 1500+ generation SD Cards.

          • @freeb1e4me: Thanks for giving me the kick I needed.

I went and bought a faster SD card reader.

This time it only took 11 minutes (an 18x speedup compared to my previous potato reader)

            • @nk64: You’re welcome. Link on the one you bought please

              • +2

@freeb1e4me: I'm embarrassed to say given the audience that I paid full price at JB Hi-Fi.

                I got this reader:
Lexar Professional USB-C Dual-Slot Card Reader

and this adapter because my main computer is USB-C poor.
ALOGIC Ultra Mini USB-A to USB-C Adapte

I was prepared to spring for one of these (for future proofing) but though there was one in stock the staff member didn't seem confident in finding it:
                SanDisk Extreme PRO® SD™ UHS-II USB-C™ Reader

Also I didn't do any particular research to speak of so I am happy to get feedback that I should have bought something else and why (for future reference).

                • +1

                  @nk64: Thanks for the information.

I’m currently looking at getting a high speed microSD card reader as well as my usb 2.0 version will be painfully slow.

The one you got looks good enough. Hopefully, I can find a good deal. Interestingly, high speed microSD card readers don’t seem popular on OzBargain.

    • +1

Just a correction, the emulators didn't change between 1619 and 157 generation cards only the menu program (/bin/gmenu2x)

  • +7

I have released a utility called unimaginatively GT4286Util

It is currently windows only, but I am happy to receive feedback if there is a desire for other OS's (and willing testers).

Currently it only has 2 functions:
    - Attempt to identify the generation of the SD Card (or backup folder)
    - Update the game.db with new and removed games in /roms and /download directories (it prompts you before making any changes)

    Functionality on the roadmap:
    - Patch fbneo emulator for button fix
    - Scan for vestigial files like save state files, images and config files for games that are no longer there, old and misplaced emulator binaries. And offer to remove them.
    - Scan for missing game images (and import them from eg a MAME snaps folder)
    - Trick out the fbneo emulator so we can have human readable arcade game names instead of cryptic names like "mmancp2u"

It hasn't been tested by anyone but me, so please let me know how you go and join in the discussions or browse the repository. If you 'Watch' the repository you will get notified of any updates.

      • Update the game.db with new and removed games in /roms and /download directories (it prompts you before making any changes)

To be clear, do the games in /download get moved into /roms and database updated?

      • No, the refresh game db functionality doesn't move any files around.
        Just rebuilds the game database.

  • Thanks ,bought 10,

    • Haha, wait seriously? what's the plan?

  • For those more interested in potentially picking one of these up to adapt into a usb controller to connect to an external PC (or raspberry pi/whatever else) instead of dealing with the included SOC, it's quite easy to accomplish. All the USB lines are clearly labelled on the IO board. Hooked up to a Linux/Windows PC shows up as two separate HID devices (p1/p2) and generic drivers work fine. For $50, I'm happy.

    • How is this possible without modification? How are you connecting it to an external device and would it require two USB connections for it show as two separate HIDs (2 players)?

      • +2

Unfortunately, you'll need to modify it to accomplish this. When you open it, there's two PCBs inside, one for the IO and the other for the actual computer. The IO board is pretty clearly labelled (I'll refer to nk64's github: https://github.com/nk64/GT4286/blob/main/img/hardware/io-boa… - right side of the PCB) with the four lines of a usb cable. You'll need to do some soldering to connect those 4 pads to either a female USB socket or you can hack up a USB cable. When you plug this into your computer two controllers are detected ( https://imgur.com/UYkUxrl ) as a "Twin USB Gamepad" (Hardware ID USB\VID_0810&PID_0001 for the curious, seems to be used in a lot of cheap PS2 -> USB converters)

You could also rewire the buttons to an arcade USB io board if you didn't want to solder (eg. https://www.jaycar.com.au/usb-interface-for-joystick-and-but… - cheaper on ebay or aliexpress) but this would be a lot more involved.

        • That makes more sense now and appreciate the response. I was wondering if there was a way to have this connected to an external device whilst still being to easily switch back to the way it was intended to used. My soldering skills are rubbish though and I don't want to jeopardize turning this an empty arcade stick shell.

I haven't had a chance to look at the GPIO pins the joysticks and buttons are connected but doubt they are in the order that a Raspberry Pi running Retropie would recognize if plugged it directly to the GPIO pins on a Pi board. Minimizing the need to mod anything permanently and eliminating the need for a USB joystick encoder.

I can live most of the limitations of the machine out of the box but not being able to change the aspect ratio natively on games is distracting. I've been too spoilt by the customisation frontends like Batocera and Emulation Station offer. Part of me regrets not purchasing the Retropie arcade stick for an extra $30 when they were available at Jaycar.

  • Still trying to work out a way to fix the player 1 buttons not working

    • Some troubleshooting options here

  • Hi there are you able to get a serial connection via tty1 / does it show up in device manager as a com port when connected to pc?

Oops was meant to be a reply to ThighHighDemise

    • Nah, no extra com port is shown when it's connected.

  • I purchased one of these and on my 32GB card is only about 150 games. I conducted a Google search and found the roms to over 1,500. You need a minimum of a high speed sd card with at least 64 gb so you can add more content down the track. No modifications or editing directories with jpg files etc that is time consuming and link works straight out of the box. This is not as powerful or as fast as a Raspberry Pi. But at $49 it’s worth it. Raspberry Pi would be the best option if this can be modified.

    • Nice. If you want to get 6 button FBA/MAME games working properly, check out this discussion over at the GitHub repo.

ThighHighDemise posted earlier about modifying this hardware to be the controller for a PC or Raspberry Pi.

    • Do you mind pming me the link. Your pms are off.

      • Sorry, I have turned PMs on. I botched the links to the info about hardware mods. Here it is: https://github.com/nk64/GT4286/blob/main/Hardware%20Modifica…

        • I was referring to @Jerrycan link

@easternculture: Ah, sorry. Earlier in the thread ExerionExo mentioned that Archive.org has a backup and to search for GT 4286 games.

          • @easternculture: For more info.
            Search google gt 4286 games
This works without editing any scripts mentioned in the previous posts and if you follow their advice you will waste hours trying to get it to work.
I read the previous posts on page 1 and have done the modification Hackster wrote in basic instructions.
The audio mentioned not working the menu in the monitor software is in Asian language. You will have to use Google translate on your phone. You will then see audio options to change. Mine is now working with 1500 games.

          • @easternculture: Info that works look carefully at sub headings
            https://github.com/nk64/GT4286/discussions

            • @Jerrycan: Format a high speed card minimum 32GB in fat32.
Drag files across to card that’s it.
I uploaded a photo of the complete unit

  • Got one of these today - hadn't seen this post. The store in Kingston (Tas) had a cutsheet they were giving out on how to load your own games etc.

nk64 is spot on with his review but here's my thoughts….

First impressions? Its not speedy but it does run emulated games at the correct speed for the most part.
It does allow you to save progress for games with varying levels of success.
For the price I'm happy to buy it - I'm going to build a DIY arcade cab and I'll use this as the basis for the controls.
The buttons are probably not going to stand up to intense use but for what I need it's perfect.

I'll have fun playing with it and experimeting with it.

You can also plug in additional USB controllers into the USB port at the back.

I wouldn't spend $249 but happy to spend $49 on this.

    • Cheers,

Please visit my GitHub repository and the associated discussion section so you don't have to start your experimenting from scratch (although I would understand if you do want to look at it from first principals).

If you find out anything interesting please considering sharing it over there too.

As far as I know no-one has had any significant success plugging in external USB Controllers.
See the "USB controller?" discussion for more.

Don't forget to take a copy of your SD Card first!

  • I was able to scrape images using Selph Scraper and move it into the correct directory.

It also has a mame mode to grab all the fba images.

One last thing to do is to get ChatGPT to clean up the rom names.
export sql - get ChatGPT to provide an updated list and then update the db.

Thats one more project finished for now

  • Anyway to combine for 4 players if you get 2?

    • +2

Unfortunately, only with two screens and some imagination.

Alternatively if you are handy with a soldering iron, you could look at converting the console to a USB device to plug into another computer such as a PC or Raspberry Pi where you could run up MAME or RetroArch and use two consoles as four joysticks to have four players going at once.

      https://github.com/nk64/GT4286/blob/main/Hardware%20Modifica…

      • Sounds like an option. Note it, thanks.

    • Which 4 player games are looking to play?

  • Have anyone tried exfat format for the sdcard instead of fat32?

    • +3

      Doesn't work

      • Yeah I put an old image on an exfat and it would not load, just got static screens flash in and out on an otherwise black screen.
Any one recomend a disk management program that will fat32 over 32gig?
