    • What was quick, mate?

You're starting to sound like my wife.

Yes thats a great price for a name brand 8amp charger.

  • Can it do lithium?

victron blue 12v 5A is a good weatherproof smart charger that will do lithium as well as lead… a quick look shows this for $95 using ebay plus code.
I paid $86 in october when I had more time to hunt.

    • Can it do lithium?

No, unless you're planning to start a fire.

Charging a lithium with an agm charger won't make it catch fire. It just wont charge it to full voltage.

        • I'm not sure that's a safe generalisation. This charger is advertised as a "leave it connected forever" device. Some automatic battery chargers (I read the manual for this one, but there's not enough information to be sure) will definitely subject a liithium battery to conditions that can make it fail.

Yes, my "start a fire" comment was also a generalisation, but it was a safer generalisation than your "she'll be right mate".

Looks like lead acid only !!!

It's an older model and the manual makes no mention of AGM, lithium etc. I still grabbed one with free delivery with one pass (finally made use of that cheap annual deal) as my local had no stock.

      • +2

Definitely only lead acid. Checked the manual, it's under the warnings

        • • For charging 12 Volt lead acid batteries ONLY

          Good find

    • I think that's for the smaller 4amp SMC400

  • Only need to recharge a car battery once a year for rego. Is the extra $20 worth it over the ozito 4 amp charger?

I guess the main feature i would need is the ability to recondition the battery?

  • Good find.Thanks.This is so cheap. Been using a Shumacher SPi! one amp charger, which really isn't ideal as I have to disconnect my battery to charge and maintain float.

Just ordered one for delivery and got notification ready for delivery.

  • Novice question here. Can anyone confirm if this can be used like a trickle charger? I'm hoping thats what the 'Float' function is that's mentioned in the manual. Hoping I can leave this attached to a car that isnt driven regularly to maintain the battery.

    'FLOAT
The Float stage maintains the battery at 100% charge without overcharging or damaging
the battery. This means the charger can be left connected to the battery indefinitely

  • Just for info, can't see a date but the link gives advice on how to identify chargers that are not part of the recall which may well be all the Bunnings ones as I'm sure they would have updated them.

  • Mad price for brand name 8A
