  • How is it compare with Samsung Q60D

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/884844

    • +8

Apparently Choice said that one wasn't choice.

      • Cool bananas

    • +2

I watching one right now and wouldn't recommend, screen brightness is very average and at a year old it's got some pretty bad backlight bleed happening around the edges of the screen

      • +10

Isn't light bleed an issue for ALL 85 screens without local dimming?

I wouldn't got above 65 with an edge lit etc, it's just too far for constant contrast. Makes me laugh that everyone goes for cheap 75+ screens….grrrrosssssss!

Ie you need to max the backlight to get light to the middle, but then end up with bright edges.

        • I get the whole edge light thing but when I say bad, I mean it's 10cm+ from the top and bottom edges

    • +3

that Samsung Q60D could be the worst TV on the market. This is apparently a lot better.

  • +9

    Waiting for that c855 special

    • +4

+1 Hoping for a 75" C855 in the $1700-1800 range, but that's probably wishful thinking.

      • Currently 1980@videopro

      • I went into TGG during black Friday and asked what was the lowest they could do. I managed to get it for $1700 with free delivery (took 2 weeks). My brother went back with me 2 days later, but could only get it for $1750. Weirdly enough, his still hasn't come in yet. So you might be waiting a while even if you managed to snag it for that price.

        • $1700s for a C855 would be amazing, fingers crossed during boxing day sales.

  • Great deal. Couldn’t wait for the C855 so got the 75” Hisense u7 for $1500 from TGG.

    • Are there much differences between the two?

      • +2

A lot more dimming zones on the C855 and Google TV.

I think in my case the Hisense will be ok as I need glasses to see far away. At 3 meters I won’t notice much difference.

Also I have an Apple TV so the average OS on the Hisense is irrelevant.

I think the TCL is more future proof but for my usage the Hisense will do fine until I want to upgrade to a 98” down the road

  • +3

120Hz DLG is the only issue here. It's not native 120Hz. For those who's got eye issues, then only a true 120 Hz will fix that (speaking from experience). Otherwise a really nice TV for the price..

      DLG "Don't Look Good"?

  • Combine with shopback gift cards for a further 2.5% cashback :)

    • Can't use giftcards with online Price beat.

      • I was able to use gift cards after being sent a link through price beat chat

        • That's different, it's but the price beat button per OP

what wall mounts are people using with these 85" qleds? I'm hanging out for a C855 deal, but I may as well get the wall mount bought and installed while I wait.

    • +2

I'm also wondering the same. I got the LG 86" UT8050 and am looking around. I figure I don't need something with full movement, just a slight bit of tilt and very sturdy.
I was even having a look on AliExpress.
Some people on OzB recommended Selby mounts but I'm in QLD so have never heard of them.

      • +2

We have around 7 Selby mounts at work, they work a treat. Comes with all sorts of different screws/fasteners.

        • Good to hear. From your experience, do any of the tilt brackets tilt left-right (as well as up-down) or is a full-motion mount required?

          • +1

@pointblank: We only have the slim, up-down tilt at work. I'm assuming you'll have to get a full motion for left-right tilt.

      • +1

I've bought a few Selby things over the years, as they seem to be one of those 'if you know, you know' sleeper companies that pop up in random forum posts when researching stuff. Most recently 4x in-ceiling speakers, really happy with them for the price. Didn't even think of brackets!
the TCL site said vesa 600x500 for the C888 85", best I could find in a brief search on amazon was this one so far https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01GQI36YG/ , but it seems to only do up/down tilt, and at a fixed angle you choose when mounting (based on searching the reviews), not on any kind of hinge.

Most of the others that came up in a search for "600x500" are only 600x400. stupid amazon search.

        I'll go browse Selby

Wait for the TV to arrive so you can make sure the TV is set to your preferred hight. If you don't like maths, place the mount against the back of the tv and measure from the top bolt hole to the bottom of the tv. Add this distance to how high you want the bottom off the wall (for couch viewing, this could be 600mm).

Mounting points on this set are low, if you go to hight you will get a sore neck.

As mounting points are low, recommend minimising forward tilt. While the 85C855 is reasonable for reflections and extremely bright, white furniture in sunlight is still very visible. Keep that in mind when selecting tilt.

      For the mount

600x500 is the issue if you want it off the wall. I ended up using slotted U channel to extend the arms of an extendable mount as I found nothing extendable rated for the weight above 600x400. Wasn't worried about the up 75" claims as that was to achieve full rotation.

If going for a basic rectangular plate mount, install the safety bar.

Recommend going overboard with the wall bolts. Throw out the wall bolts that come with the mount and buy the best bolts that work for your wall type.

If bolting to studs, recommend drilling .5mm holes where you think the studs are to confirm the centre of the stud, then marking the centre. Wall is going to be damaged by the mount. A few .5mm holes under the mount, or stopping the job after a few .5mm holes where drilled if far better than ripping the gyprock off and smashing your new tv.

You could use a drawing pin or thumb tack instead.

      Also

Found the TV edges were too sharp for the partner to lift for more than a few seconds, even with supplied screen protection. Needed to give them a towel to soften the edge, then they could lift for the minute or so it took to line up this tv.

      • I gave these specs to Selby support:
Specs from the TCL website https://www.tcl.com/au/en/tvs/85c855
        VESA Hole Pattern 600 x 500
        Screw Size M8 x 16
        Screw Quantity (pcs) 4

        and
        Dimensions With Stand (mm) 1887 (W) x 1122 (H) x 418 (D)
        Dimensions Without Stand (mm) 1887 (W) x 1084 (H) x 36 (D)
        Carton Dimensions (LxWxH mm) 2060 x 191 x 1267
Net Weight With Stand (Kg) 48.5
Net Weight Without Stand (Kg) 46.3

        and they recommended this one:
        https://www.selby.com.au/bracket-finder/60-150in-tilt-plasma…

and it's just dropped in price since yesterday. when I bought it. grr.

        • +1

Those flat plates are usually 650mm to 800mm. If they are wide enough and you can get it on the studs where you want it, I recommend using only one, as
          * Using two will make the mount more visible.
          * Two will be harder to level.

If you need two, try to minimise the distance between the plates as you only need 600mm horizontally.

          • +1

            @Pussqunt: Thanks for the tips!

Selby also refunded me the difference of the price drop without fuss after I sent a polite enquiry, which was nice.

Bought this for my C855 85 Inch. Goes across 3 studs. Heavy duty bracket and compatible with 600 x 500

  • Is C855 that good compared to C655 if you don't need a bright tv? Might have go and compare them side by side to see for myself.

    • +3

Yes, that good, mini led and qled.

  • how would this compare to the LG C4? I have a 65" in my living room but it's a little small and a little dim, still great though

    • +5

how would this compare to the LG C4

      85" vs 65" 🤣

How can you compare a high-end TV to a low-end TV.

    • +1

superforever is right, this TV is bottom tier. Quick websearch shows the screen does 450 nits, so it's only around half as bright as the C4. Processing, colours, black level will all be inferior to the C4. If you did a side-by-side you would see the LG being far superior in every single metric of picture quality.

      • Interesting, fair enough. I suppose they both seem to support HDR and Dolby vision. I just wondered if this would do better in my living room during the day time. Though I must admit the C4 seems to make just about any video look good, even lower bitrate stuff which impressed me

      • For sure, but for a 1/3rd of the C4’s price, this is an amazing value,

    120hz my foot

  • If anyone keen on 98" C755, only stock available at "Videopro Warehouse - Eagle Farm" it seems but $4,490 looks like really good deal(not ATL though). No luck with JB pricematch as only click and collect stock in Eagle Farm.
    https://www.videopro.com.au/product/tcl-mini-led-google-tv-9…

    • I got the 98" 855 for only slightly more than that

    • Bigger than my bedroom

      • -1

        That's what she said

  • +2

Costco is $1299 - many stores during black friday were price matching costco without issue.

    https://www.costco.com.au/c/TCL-85-Inch-C655-QLED-4K-Google-…

  • Does anyone know the distance between the legs?
I have a 75-inch TV, and its legs are at the edge of my TV stand, but the legs are also on the edge of the TV.
I had a look at the specs but couldn’t find it but in the photos, the legs seem a bit more central.
I really appreciate any help you can share.

    • Just so happens we looked at exactly this at a store last week and had the guy measure it for us. He said it was 159cm

  • So 120hz dlg will be no good to use as a computer monitor for gaming at 4k 120hz?

    • +1

      120hz 1440p only

  • Better to go Harvey Norman and price match Costco.

    Total $1299 + 10% voucher back.

    • Lies

  • Hmm. I think I would have preferred this to the LG deal the other week. I jumped on that thinking that there wouldn’t be another 86” at that price for a while.

  • Got this as a 3rd TV… for 1,080 with 10% of gift cards back…For this price, I can’t complain at all…

    • Where are you getting 10% of gift cards back?
