    Damn that's cheap!

  • Damn my 15% giftcards are in Sydney while i am travelling. And my 10 years old LG has died recently so this could have been perfect. Any chance they would hold price till Friday? Or else wait for the boxing day sales

Not a fan of WebOS unless someone can convince me otherwise

    • +7

      Why not?

I use WebOS and the associated Prime, AppleTV+, Kayo, YouTube apps and they all work well.

    • WebOS or Android, they both harvest your data and show you ads

    • +1

Absolute nightmare, only worsened by the horrendous magic remote.

    • +7

Could be worse, could be Tizen

    • +2

      Grab a Google TV…?

    • I was using jellyfin on webOS on my C4, it can't play 4K videos smoothly.

Google tv doesnt have that problem

    • +1

Been using webos for a few years. Seems ok

    • +2

      Erm, just use appletv lol

    • I recently bought a CHIQ 85" for this very reason. Android TV for $1250 + 50 delivery brand new with a 3yrs warranty.

Note : don't try to hold your 85" Hisense up by one foot with you reach behind to check one of the connections

  • +17

Didn't need another TV, but follow me. Lounge tv can now go into master, master tv can go to gym so now I will be motivated to get in there… Can feel the wife shaking her head already

    • +3

      🫨

    • You have a home gym?

      • +4

I have a shed with gym equipment, mostly bought spontaneously here.

      • +2

I do, it takes up some of my living room, but well worth it. Have had one since mid-2020 'cause COVID. One of the best things I've ever done.

      • Why is that surprising?

    • I did the exact same move a mo th ago! Worked a treat

  • +2

Seems I go up 10 inches every year, wife never complains.

    • +9

      It's also measured diagonal

  • +3

Non Android TV kills the deal. Absolutely hate LG's webOS crap

    • +2

Not all Android TVs are built equally. I've used plenty with diabolically slow UIs that make me want to scream. I'll take webOS over that any day.

      • Agreed, but the ones you speak of are just cheap crap that should not even be considered. This is an LG which is still known to be an ok brand.

      • I have a Sony that's a bit slow. Got worse after a few updates. But it's an amazing 85" for the price I paid. Had it for maybe 3yrs now, and still haven't bothered connecting one of my shields to it. While it can be frustrating, it mustn't annoy me THAT much

  • This or the Tizen for a $65 saving?

    • +1

      No to Tizen!!!!

      • Tizen gives me instant & constant rage. The TV I used was top quality, top price… Garbage restricted OS, like bumper bowling.

  • +2

is this better than TCL alternative size

    • I work with various TV brands daily. I'll always take LG over TCL.

      • Samsung or LG?

      • +1

I also work with TVs and would take anything over an LG LCD. They use the cheapest shittiest panels for anything but OLED.

        • +1

I was going to say my 65" LG oled just won't die (i might move it to the bedroom or upgrade in size), it's been a great tv, but yeah agreed, I probably wouldn't get a LG LCD panel.

      • +2

        Even over a C855? Why?

  • Nice price! Only 2.0 HDMI?

    • +2

It's 60hHz refresh rate, why would you want HDMI 2.1?

      • Not sure why they dropped it back to 60Hz. Previous year versions had 120Hz for the 86inch.

  • -1

Any suggestions on a wall mount for something like this?
Bonus points for something with a bit of tilt to the left.

    • -1

      Lazy

      • Merry Christmas buddy

  • Do any of these extremely large TVs have a refresh rate higher than 60HZ?

    • +5

No, shit contrast and everything else too.

Like someone pointed out in one of the other threads the other days, the target market for these are probably non gamers and footy watching bogans.

      • +6

Actually on a blind test a few years ago, can't remember the article, most people couldn't tell the difference or know which one was the more expensive TV between a $700 LED LCD and a $3000 LED LCD when their brands were covered. It's only spec dweebs that get nose bleeds looking at spec sheets. This is a perfectly fine TV and on the showroom floor looks great at 86 inches even side by side with higher end brand models from Sony and Samsung (same panel type ie LCD). Obviously OLED wipes the floor with all LCD displays but it's not as big as a gap as spec dweebs may lead you to believe and you will be surprised how many people will say the LCD display looks better than OLED on the showroom floor. This is a great TV for most people, ignore the spec dweebs, it's a great price at $1345 for a massive 86" TV. .

        • +6

Sure you might not notice the difference in a showroom. But you once you get it home and dim the lights, you probably will.

Here's a review for those who want to make an informed decision (UT8000 = UT8050): https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/ut8000

          • +1

@Ryballs: You are going full geek. Never go full geek especially on a well priced 86" TV. This TV is great.

        • No you’re a spec dweeb gone full geek

          • -1

@jackary: I found you. :-) Don't get a nose bleed hehehehe going over nerd specs on a well priced 86" TV with very good picture quality.

        • +3

Most TVs look good on the showroom floor cos they're on demo mode, which has the motion smoothing effect on too. Like the fella down from me pointed out, there's reviews like Rtings.

Sure you're right that a lot of folks won't care about picture quality or that their blacks are more like milky greys, and for that target demographic, sure this big ass TV is fine. But for others that want better picture quality (just a simple local dimming LED, not even bringing OLED into this), there's better options.

          • -1

@adrianhughes1998: You are welcome to link better 85"+ TV's for sub $1500 here so we can all see and perhaps help others to get better deals.

            • @Dollar Dreamer: Did I say anything about the price and screen size at this price point? Looks around don't think I did.

              • @adrianhughes1998: Eh? I up voted your comment. It was a genuine request to post links to the better 85" TV's you mentioned so all of us can see if it's worth the price to performance ratio compared to this deal.

      • What should I look for if I want one for gaming? Just high refresh rate and Oled?

        • +1

ALLM, VRR are the mainstays along with support for 4k120 or above to future proof. Doesn't have to be OLED even a decent full array local dimming LED TV will be decent

Jargon such as QLED miniLED can be confusing, so best to compare reviews of TVs on sites like Rtings to get contrast levels, black levels, motion blur etc etc etc

        • +1

At 85 inches+, for a gaming spec TV at this size, there are some options but expect to pay more than 2x as much as this LG TV for full array Mini LED and 120-144Hz refresh rate . Keep your eyes peeled for deals.

  • +1

Can finally upgrade from the 2015 Sony's 😅.
    Looking forward to it.

    • +1

You going all out at 86".

      • +1

Ya man, even the smaller ones are more expensive LMAO

  • This or spend extra $700 for TCL85C755?

    • +1

Tcl easy. This is LG's most entry level panel, whereas TCL 755 was their last year's flagship.

      • My mistake, 755 is actually this year's below flagship model. It still would be much better than the entry level LG.

    • Where is the TCL for an extra $700?

      • A group buying channel.

  • Thanks OP. Pulled the trigger last night.
