We are heading on a road trip for the first time with the EV and realised we needed cable for public chargers. Had a browse around and found this which seemed like a decent deal and ticked most of the boxes but it is a random brand.

  • Type 2 EV charging cable
  • 22kW at 32A, 480V
  • 3 Phase
  • 5m
  • IP55
  • No idea if it comes with a storage bag

Remember to tick the 10% off coupon

I've received mine and I'm very happy with the quality. The cable is thicker and heavier than the single phase trickle charger that came with the car. The plugs feels nice and ergonomic. It also comes with a nice unbranded carry case and micro fibre towel like all the other listings on Amazon.

Just got an EV, don't public chargers typically have cables?

    • Most of them do but some free chargers don't , also if there are no ev chargers you can plug this at campsites with an adaptor

      • Legend, appreciate the info!

        • Check how fast your car charges. If your car can't charge more than 7kw on ac I wouldn't bother with a 3 phase cable (made to handle 22kw). 3 phase cables are nearly double in weight and are hella stiff due to extra copper lines.

      • This is just a type 2 cable, not an actual evse ("charger" ) . You cant just plug this in anything on a camp-site. Those are industrial 3/5 pin plugs (single or three phase). Don't plug these in anything other than plugs in ev charging spots.

I would say all DC fast charging stations come with tethered cables.
Most AC charging stations do not have tethered cables and require drivers to bring their own, ie. those at shopping centers.

      • Dc fast chargers will always have cables attached because they all have coolant running through the cables.

    • I just got one too (a used one). Seems like chargers placed in isolated spots typically don't have a cable to lesson vandalism. The first charger I tried to test out the cable I bought was free (I only got 1 kwh though as I was short of time).

    • Not all. Download the plugshare app and you’ll be able to see if it’s required or not.

    • DC chargers do, always.
Type 2 chargers sometimes do sometimes dont.

  • You will find most AC chargers use a type 2 cable. Fast DC chargers have the lead with the charger. I brought one for the free charging at shopping centres and paid for itself 10 times over in the free km I have done compared to the old petrol car.

  • I received mine today and I'm very happy with the quality. The cable is thicker and heavier than the single phase trickle charger that came with the car. The plugs feels nice, solid and ergonomic. It also comes with a nice unbranded carry case and micro fibre towel like all the other listings on Amazon.
