I think these are U10 size, and the Extra Large are U10/15 size. You are right, the seafood store jumbo size is generally U6-U8, but you’re probably looking at $50/kg+.
I went down today and my local seafood place has them for $52/kg. Not sure what the U sizing is, but they were about 80 grams when weighed.
U sizing is how many prawns kilo
U sizing is the number of prawns per pound (0.454kg)

maybe, inflation jumbo prawns? but they are deflated.
Where are these prawns from? Aussie? The listing didn't say.
Aussie Tiger Prawns. Already got my 3kg box for Xmas day (frozen, not thawed)
Yes, they are Australian Prawns, there is a logo just under Product Details. It also says they are farmed, not wild-caught.
$17/ kg at the end of November…now on special for $30….
Pretty sure there is a class action around this.
If you are in SA, go to Foodland.
Actual fresh King Prawns (caught of Wallaroo this week) for $22 per Kg. Was cheaper last week…but Xmas and all…
Thats because i would assume they are clearing out older stock and the new seasons prawns ie. caught in Nov/Dec are the more expensive ones.
Make sure you ask the catch date or even better look at the date of the boxes they come in. Alot of these cheaper deals on prawns arent new seasons prawns and are from Mid year- May. 7-8 months old.
Saw this in my local supermarket when i went to purchase as they had 10/15 King Prawns Cooked for $24kg and so gave it a miss when i saw the catch date on the box.
It is quite common for prawns to be caught and frozen 12 months or longer, especially the higher end ones which are in limited supply.
I prefer the taste of King Prawns over Tiger prawns. YMMV.
I checked these out, but unfortunately discovered that Woolworths "jumbo" prawns are NOT the same as "jumbo" prawns from a seafood store.
