      their 'cashback' is treated as a discount on future purchases with zip, and you can't even use all of it in one transaction. wouldn't recommend the hassle.

      Yes.

      • Some service stations will not use MCC 5541. For example, unattended service stations (e.g. Costco's service stations, unattended Ampol service stations, unattended United service stations) are supposed to use MCC 5542. There have also been reports of the 7-Eleven digital gift card (which is issued and operated by the same companies as the gift card in this deal) not working at some independent service stations (e.g. Budget Petrol, Medco). However, I would take those reports with a grain of salt in relation to this deal, because the 7-Eleven digital gift card and the Zip Visa Fuel gift card are different products with different MCC restrictions, plus no one has been able to confirm the reason these independent service stations rejected the 7-Eleven digital gift card (e.g. was an unexpected MCC being used, did the merchant reject the gift card due to no CVM, etc).

      • Some service stations will choose to not accept these prepaid Visa gift cards as a payment method, even though they may use the correct MCC. For example, EG Ampol's checkouts should let you use this gift card if you are paying for fuel in-store, but it is likely the checkouts will reject this gift card if you are trying to purchase a gift card. (The FAQ I linked above explains this in more detail.) Additionally, if you are trying to pay for fuel via an app (e.g. Ruckus, BPme), the gift card may be rejected due to lacking 3-D Secure support.

          No, not really.

          In terms of dot point 1, the MCC is something set by the merchant's EFTPOS terminal provider and can change at any time without notice, which means you will not know the MCC of a transaction until you try it. Even then, nearly all financial institutions will not show you the MCC for a transaction through internet banking or their app unless you specifically ask them.

          In terms of dot point 2, that one is a bit easier. You will only realistically encounter this issue if:

          • The attendant asks to see the type of payment method you are using, and then they decide they will not accept a prepaid Visa gift card as a payment method.

          • The merchant's EFTPOS terminal has been set up to specifically reject the type of prepaid Visa gift card you are using. (This is really a case of trial-and-error, but you will probably find that only EG Ampol is picky about how you can use these types of prepaid Visa gift cards.)

          • The app you are trying to use for payment has been set up to reject any payment cards not supporting 3-D Secure.

      If you can find a Shell Reddy/Coles Express that is able to sell gift cards, you can do that.

      I went to two Shell Reddy Express service stations on Friday, and I was unable to purchase any gift cards, because the two sites were running the new checkouts with Reddy Express branding and the all-touchscreen EFTPOS terminals. The attendants at both stores scanned Coles Group & Myer gift cards, but they came up with error messages on the checkout. The attendant at the first site said they were currently unable to sell gift cards and another type of product (but I did not catch what that product type was).

          This is what I spotted at one site a few weeks ago. The very old eftpos-network Ultimate Home gift cards were a massive surprise to see.

          I also saw $250 Coles Mastercard gift cards and $400 Vanilla Visa gift cards at one of the two sites I was at on Friday.

    Is there a bug?
    I purchased a $300, received $30 cashback,
    but I didn't receive any gift card, and the zip pay balance didn't drop,
    It was $300 before I purchased and it's now $330.
    There is no "-$300" under "Activity", but "Reward redeemed $30" instead.
    Did I just receive some free cash? lol

      Tried to buy $500 twice in app, both says "Gift card is coming" then something went wrong.

      Tried to buy from browser once, failed with the same.

      Got 3 emails saying "Your purchase at Fuel Gift Card was successful", and now app shows two $50 rewards redeemed but no purchase histories of any $500.

      No gift cards received as well. WTH…

      yes it does conduct credit check
      however I dont see Zip in my credit report
      so Zip probably use the credit check for account approval
      but it doesnt affect credit score
