Bonus QR2 Upgrade on All Racing Wheels, Maybe Free Delivery, All V2 Wheels with QR2 & Universal Hub $349 Shipped @ Fanatec

220

After a very indifferent black friday, Fanatec is doing two excellent deals for the runup to Christmas:

  • Expired Free shipping on all orders. This is a major pain point with Fanatec! UPDATE: The free shipping expires today (15th sorry - I just caught this in the detail). (QR2 deal below apparently runs to Christmas, and even though the blog post says it is expired, my cart is still showing free shipping - YMMV).

  • ALL WHEEL bundles have the option of a full metal QR2. This is everything from the cheapest CSL P1 V2 (https://fanatec.com/au-en/steering-wheels/csl-steering-wheel…) up to the most expensive batshit bananas Bentley wheel (and to be fair, this comes with the premium QR2 already). Extremely worthwhile if you are in the market for a new wheel and are in the QR2 ecosystem. I switched from QR1 at the start of the year, and I've been extremely happy with the change (but not the price - this is better!).

Sadly, if you just want the adapters, even with reductions, they remain extortionate at $90/$120 for the base and wheelside.

  • Also available are 3 x QR2 wall mounts for $40. (I'm in the market for one of these if anyone in Hobart wants to split a pack). With free shipping, these are cheaper per unit than the Ebay 3D prints, and look to be dramatically better materials.

Goes off to grumble about ordering a new wheel just before the free shipping and wall mounts dropped. Grumble, grumble, grumble.

I have read the OP's posting. I still have no idea what the product is.

I have saved you so much money!

    • A steering wheel? Not sure if its a real one of for gaming…

      • Yeah Fanatec make Sim Racing Hardware for gaming/simulation.

  • +1

Unfortunately the Fanatec AU site is failing under the load of their recent promos.

The main site is served via Cloudflare so works fine, but as soon as you login (or create an account) for checkout, it times out - it's been like this for days.

  • I'm in Hobart and considering buying a pack of those QR2 wall mounts. But I might end up needing all 3 by the end of Christmas the way things are going with my impulse buys.

    • @EthicsGradient Well, they are sold out now! So that saves us having to umm and ahh about buying them. ;-)

      • Well that's a bugger! I got caught up on other things and also missed out!

      • +1

Also, if you do decide you only want 2 when they restock, I'm happy to take the third (even with shipping, they'll be $20 ea vs $27 ea for the decidedly crappier ebay 3d prints).

PM me if you are keen.

No worries mate, will keep you in mind. Good to know there are other fellow Tassie Sim Racers here on OzB.

        • +1

i run these and there pretty decent works out cheaper the more you buy
          https://www.simuverse.au/shop/p/fanatec-qr1-qr2-wall-mount-q…

          • @bob98: Cheers @bob98, I have a 3D Printer so if I wasn't so busy hunting for Fanatec Snowballs I could 3D print a few mounts. I did 3Dprint mounts for my QR1s but haven't bothered to with the switch to QR2.

          • @bob98: Ta - unfortunately I only need one and the shipping as always kills. (I am definitely kicking myself over missing the three pack!).

    • FYI I 3d printed some for my rig. I don't have a 3D printer but many Australian libraries do. Cost me about $1 each.

If only they could sort out their CloudFlare Bad Gateway issues being caused by their Christmas Snowball Hunt promotion. Won't let me log into my account no matter what I do (differing PC's, differing networks, clearing browser cache, restarting computers, restarting routers). Argh!
They need to better tune their CloudFlare rules.

    • +1

It won't be Cloudflare, it'll be the actual Fanatec-end servers that are overloaded. All the cached pages served by Cloudflare are fine.

      • Yeah you're probs right. Oddly enough I am able to create new accounts to finish my orders, but can't use pre-existing accounts. So now I have 3 accounts from 3 seperate orders over the last 3 days (claiming the 60% one off coupons).

        • You got 3 of the 60% off coupons? FFS

I found 2 of them very early on but couldn’t login to purchase

          • @Carrera1963: Yeah found 3, gave one to a mate and used the other 2. I kinda feel like I was extremely lucky and made up for all the other easter-egg/snowball hunts I have failed at over the years.
I haven't found todays code. I am wondering if it hasn't been published yet.

  • So to upgrade I’ll need 1 base and 3 wheel side. Is it even worth the upgrade?

    • +2

Your user name suggests you know the answer.

    • +1

Yes, but consider Simube replicas instead of Fanatec if you want to save some money! Although be mindful of Simube US based pricing.

  • Didn't Fanatec file for bankruptcy?

    • +4

Yup. The CEO flailed around trying numerous things to keep it afloat, failed miserably and Corsair took the lot a couple of months ago (and if I understand how it played out, the original stock holders would have done much better under an earlier Corsair offer that the CEO blocked). Bloody stupid shenanigans and took far too long.

Things seem to be getting steadily better with Corsair. Improved delivery times, sales that don't break their entire supply chain, and odd good things like we see with this (admittedly small) sale event. It made me confident enough to do a wheel upgrade a week ago.

There are also a couple of corsair reps on the Fanatec reddit, so they are paying a bit of attention to what they have bought.

I'm also hopeful we are going to see tighter integration between elgato stream decks and fanatec kit - the stream decks are pretty well AIO button boxes.

      • Good to hear they are getting back on track under Corsair.

Fanatec were the start of a positive change with sim racing hardware, before them you the only real options for most people were one of the entry level wheels from Logitech or Thrustmaster, Fanatec kicked off the mid range gear which now has plenty of competition. My GT3 RS v2 wheel was a massive upgrade from the G25 at the time. Still use CSP's but run a Moza wheel now.

      • +1

Yer fair enough, thanks for the reply! Corsair is a good outcome for them. For a while I thought the only options left where simagic and Moza.

      • +1

Fanatec x Elgato integration makes so much sense.
And also Corsair keyboard RGP integrations like Flash keyboard full YELLOW under yellow flags, etc. I remember doing this with my Logitech on iRacing and it was pretty neat.

I assume the R2R CSL DD (mentions "QR2 Lite") is not included in the deal for the full-metal QR2?

    • Correct

      • +1

oh well picked one up because I always thought shipping was free so might as well take advantage of that now

        • QR2-lite is apparently pretty solid relative to the QR1-lite which used to be bundled.

  • bugger, was busy yesterday and did not see this

    • +1

Don’t despair friend, the deal is still live!

      • +2

still seems it is still working!

  • I'm still using the QR1 Lites on my two wheels!
What are the benefits of going QR1 and QR2?
The only things I could sort of see was that it was marginally quicker to swap wheels which isn't a big deal to me, but maybe I'm missing something else?

    • If you are happy with the QR1-lite, stick with it and save the money. I hated the slop/click in the QR1 when changing direction and the creaking in the lite. Moved to the QR2 and eliminated both. But if you don't notice it, don't change, as QR2 is not cheap.

If your are on a base that is upgradeable and there is ever a really really good special on the base side upgrade, you could consider grabbing it (I think I got mine for $40?) - gives you or the next owner of your base a bit of future proofing.

  • Finally caved and picked up the CSL DD 5nm, CSL Steering Wheel P1 V2 (with free QR2 upgrade) and the CSL Elite V2 pedals right before midnight last night (thinking free shipping was going to expire); it's $10 more than if I had gotten the R2R CSL DD 5nm bundle then adding the Elite V2 on top but figured I wouldn't need the base pedals if I am getting the Elite V2 and that the R2R bundle you only get the QR2 Lite wheel side as opposed to the standard QR2 if I purchased the wheel separately…

Any tips for a sim racing newbie? My only experience is getting really good on Dirt 3/4 and Grid/2/Autosport using a keyboard lol…

    • +1

Did you happen to add the 3 months iracing code for $1? That's not a bad place to start, although there is a way of getting a 12 months sub if you do a search through ozbargain somewhere. I'm a relative newbie also but that was a fun place to start noting it looks expensive if it hooks you in.

Still tossing up whether I should upgrade to the QR2 or not…….

      • +1

I did see something about iRacing 3 months subscription but maybe I was in a hurry to check out and missed where I was supposed to tick/add the sub…guess I'll have to do some digging on Ozbargain about the 12 month sub haha.

I did however purchase the "boost kit" on Aliexpress for about $60…worked out well that Cashrewards just happened to have 17/25% cash back too when I ordered it last night.

          Try this https://esports.motorsport.org.au/get-started

Otherwise I prefer racing on Assetto Corsa Competizione or Le Mans Ultimate

          • @WorkingLowJam: Thanks mate! That's amazing! I bought the (I think) original Assetto Corsa during Steam sales in anticipation I may be hopping on a set of wheels soon (and that I bought a Quest 3 haha), so should I pick up Assetto Corsa Competizione?

            • +1

@basketballfreak6: AC will give you fun variation of cars to play, but it's very old now, I haven't played it in years. Sure there are lots of mods for it but you will need to be prepared to tinker.

ACC I would recommend if you are into pure motorsport racing on a track (think competitive lap after lap racing and practicing to get better). The same applies for iRacing, but that's also a money pit.

Automobilista 2 is another great game to get, it's similar to AC but more modern, it frequently goes on sale.

Turn your 5nm into 8nm, don't pay for fancy Fanatec price gouging power supply prices though and get this handy dandy 3rd party power supply!
      https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005188710883.html?spm=a2g…

      • +1

Yep ordered it the same night I did the Fanatec kit!

        • +1

          Noiceee

      • Jeepers, might just have to put my order in later today too.

        • +1

Works a treat! In the Fanatec control panel it even updates the UI to show it's running the boost kit

          • @PeelThis: The link says it’s an EU plug but can you just use the cable from the 5nm Fanatec brick?

            • +1

@hunters: So one end of the PSU connects to the DD, that's the same for each.
The other end takes a male kettle style plug, same as what plugs into a computer power supply.
So if you can get it with an AU one that's great, otherwise if they don't have it you can easily source one or probs have a spare at home somewhere

        • I researched/sat on getting the setup for like a year before committing couple nights ago and that third party power brick gets mentioned fairly often on Reddit posts lol.

          • +1

@basketballfreak6: Nice, if you're going the Quest 3 + iRacing I highly recommend getting the 3rd party app 'Virtual Desktop'
Works better than using Meta's Air Link and I've even got better performance than using wired funnily enough. Real game changer for me.

            • +1

@PeelThis: Yep one of the first apps I bought when I got my Q3 lol…and I agree miles ahead of the Link, the other day watched an NBA match in the large "theater screen" it was pretty awesome aye.
