How Many Flybuys Accounts Do You Have?

How many Flybuys account is too many? How many do you have?

I have four and I earned 86968 points (~434 flybuy dollars) from July till now using the four.
I am wondering if this is normal or below average. Should I be more aggressive somehow?

Nice try Anna Lee, I only have 1 flybuys account

  • Where's the anonymous poll?

  • I only need 1. Nearly everything I buy gives me flybuys.

  • 2,500 (all of like $10) because I shop at Woolies than I do Coles and I use my PowerPass at Bunnings. Only time I really collect points is Kmart, but even that is rare.

I think too many points is when you can pay for an entire shop at Coles (like $200-$300). Heard some people bank their entire points for Xmas and then their Xmas lunch is paid for by FlyBuys.

    • How doss bank for xmas work? Is it not same as just getting points and spending it on xmas or anytime u want? Do u get any extra?

Collect for Christmas was an offer you could opt into to "accelerate your points balance" ahead of Christmas this year. You had to opt in by 25 Aug 2024, and if you did this:

        • Flybuys turned off the instant $10 in-store discount feature for Coles during the Save period (02 Sep to 10 Dec 2024). However, you could continue to redeem Flybuys points in other ways (e.g. Flybuys Dollars, Gift Cards through the Flybuys Rewards Store, etc).

        • Flybuys sent you specific bonus points offers during the Save period (e.g. 3x points on all eligible shops at Coles between 09 Sep and 06 Oct 2024, 8x points on your next shop at Coles between 29 Oct and 04 Nov 2024, 20x points on the Coles Finest range between 22 Nov and 28 Nov 2024)

During the Redeem period (11 Dec to 24 Dec 2024), you have the option to redeem up to 80,000 Flybuys points (i.e. up to $400 off) as an instant discount in-store in one transaction at Coles.

    No option for 0?

    • Somehow my brain didn’t assume anyone will
Not have one who is in ozbargain. You are right. Some may not like saving money

I have zero, count this as my vote.

        • +2

Same. Make that another vote for 0.

PSA: could all flybuy users have their cards ready at the checkout. Nothing pisses me off more than users trying to find their card or bring up the barcode on their phone and slowing down checkout. FFS. Just to get a free toaster in 6 years time. FFS. Get stuffed flybuys.

@MS Paint: I sincerely apologize if my use of Flybuys has caused any delays for you. Over the past six months, I have earned approximately $434 through Flybuys by doing regular grocery and other routine shopping. This amount is significant to me.

          • @MS Paint: another vote for 0.

see my reply to main OP … as to reasons why.

    i have one
    but my son has one
    my dog has one
    my cat has one
    the gold fish has one
the spider in the front yard… he has 8

  • where's the option for 0 a/c's ???

but then I'm not Coles / Wesfarmers centric (I'm more IGA / Costco / Aldi).
prob shop at Coles 1-2 times a year … at least I don't get suckered into those "2-for-price-of-1" deals that entice you to spend more $$$ than intended.

Even places like Officeworks/Bunnings - may only be a once a year visit for me.
And when I do - I use either my GF's flybuys or parents (have saved a screenshot of barcode - so even when they aren't physically there).

  • Do you maintain separate phone numbers for all of them?

    • -1

I don’t think you have to; though u can if you want to. Technically u don’t need to as of today

what is the benefit of having multiple flybuys accounts?

    • I am surprised it is not open secret at this stage. Anyway, have a look at this thread https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/876768. Go through each of the replies. You might get some idea.

In that deal, I received Flybuys offers of $50 + $50 + $70 + $80 across four cards. I utilized two of them, which required spending:

      • $50/week for four weeks = $200
      • $50/week for four weeks = $200

In return, I earned $100 worth of Flybuys points, which can be redeemed for $100 worth of groceries at Coles. Since groceries are essential, this effectively provided a 25% discount on my spending.

For those considering maximizing these offers, using all four cards would mean spending approximately $1,000 in a month. This would earn $200 in Flybuys dollars, effectively a 20% discount, but only if you genuinely need $1,000 worth of groceries within that period.

To maximize these offers, I do below:

      1. Rotate Cards: Regularly rotate between Flybuys cards. The algorithm tends to increase the minimum spend if a card is used consistently. Pausing usage for a few months can prompt better offers with lower spending thresholds.

      2. Utilize Chrome Extensions: Use tools like "Woolworths Trend" or "Coles Trend" with Chrome. These can help predict price drops, aiding in timing purchases for additional savings.

For those on tight budgets like me, such methods can make a meaningful difference.

  • I turn my Flybuys into Velocity points. I think you can only link one card to your Velocity points. However you can do a family transfer of Velocity points so you might be able to back door it that way.

    • Yes. I think one card to velocity. I did that once and bought almost a free ticket to Melbourne for mom. Now-a-days I just take points into coles shopping. Does taking points into velocity give better rewards

We managed to build enough velocity points to get two Qatar Qsuite business class tickets to Paris in September this year. Took a few years to build them up but the saving was about $6,000 per ticket. We flew back with Qantas rewards point. First hop economy but the Dubai to Sydney hop was one ticket business and one ticket first. That hop saved us $5,000 business and $12,000 for first. Then we spent 15 hours in the first class lounge in Dubai before the flight. Personally I’m all about the flights.

I think if people got a card for each family member, then connected each card to their own velocity number, they could transfer all the points to a family velocity plan. There are limits to this but people might want to look into it.
