Smart Phone Sanitiser Just $20

12

Hi there,

I am running one of my website's products across daily deals site Super Koupon. I am offering a $50 Smart Phone UV sanitiser for just $20, delivered to your door.

Recent studies have provided a baffling insight into the absolute germ infestations that exist on our handsets. It has said to have spread plenty of illnesses, including the flu, pinkeye and diarrhea. They are said to carry 18 times more bacteria than a toilet handle and one in six smart phones are contaminated with fecal matter.

Sounds a bit gimmicky i know, but there's definitely alot of good in this product. It wipes out 99.9% of germs on the device, reducing the risks of illness and assuring good levels of personal hygiene. It also does not affect the hardware, which is the reason that alcohol-based products cannot be used on iPhone and Blackberry devices.

This is a new product that is convenient, unique and at this price definitely affordable.

I hope you enjoy the bargain!

hmm, i'm still alive and healthy after many years of using "dirty" phones, shopping trolleys, toilet door handles and keyboards

    • Hi mattgal,

No worries, I can appreciate that the product isn't for everyone. Although with the research I have posted below it is something for everybody to consider. Thanks!

  • It says valued $245. Then in the highlights it says $50.

    • I'll get that fixed. Good spot! Cheers.

I freaked out after reading this and threw my phone in a bucket of Dettol!

But seriously…isn't most bacteria good for building immune systems?

" It has said to have spread plenty of illnesses, including the flu, pinkeye and diarrhea. "

Can you back this statement up with links to research?

Because there is plenty of research linking reduced exposure to bacteria with increases in childhood allergies.

    • There's plenty of research out there:

And anybody who is giving a phone to their young child has issues far beyond levels of bacteria exposure..

Those all prove your first claim, that there are bacteria on your phone. I would expect that, there are bacteria on your hands and your hands touch your phone. Heck, bacteria are just about everywhere.

The question was is there any actual evidence that this bacteria is making people sick, other than one doctor being poorly quoted by a journalist?

"People are just as likely to get sick from their phones as from handles of the bathroom," says Dr. Cain of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

As @mattgal alluded to above, we've all been touching door handles for years without keeling over.

"And anybody who is giving a phone to their young child has issues far beyond levels of bacteria exposure."

As for this comment, I feel that withholding what will be an essential technology in adulthood from a child in their formative years doesn't seem like a sensible thing to me. I'm not necessarily talking about 6-year olds owning a phone, but letting them learn to use one is quite educational.

          Article 2 :
"One 2011 study sampled the cellphones of 100 college students and discovered them to be "veritable reservoirs of pathogens" that can make you sick. The study authors, from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, noted the high concentration and diversity of bacteria on the phones. A study published in the Journal of Applied Microbiology the same year warned that some 20 to 30% of viruses can be readily transferred from a fingertip to a glass surface, like that on a touch screen."

As I have said in my previous reply to @mattgal I can completely appreciate that this product is not for everyone. However those concerned with levels on bacteria on a device that 75% of people take into the bathroom with them may find this to be an affordable and practical solution. You'd wash your hands after using the bathroom, but would you wash your phone?

        • +2

Again, neither of those studies show that anyone has ever gotten sick because of their phone. Correlation is not causation.

        • +2

It would be impossible to prove what caused someone to become sick.
I doubt there are documented studies showing licking public toilets makes people sick, but we assume it's not a healthy thing to be doing!

Sounds like a good price if it does as promised!

But man, people need to be less germophobic. There are bacteria everywhere and unless you sanitise your keyboard and mouse every time you use them, wipe down your car's steering wheel after every drive and change your bedsheets every single night, (in addition to many other things too I'm sure) you're not going to escape!

    One more thing from wiki:
"The hygiene hypothesis states that a lack of early childhood exposure to infectious agents, symbiotic microorganisms (e.g., gut flora or probiotics), and parasites increases susceptibility to allergic diseases by suppressing natural development of the immune system."

So even if you are a germophobe yourself, let children grow up as you did: surrounded by filth :D

  • Toilet door handles, lift buttons, public computer keyboards/mice… and you're worried about your phone?

    • +1

Not so easy to UV sanitise most of those things.

  • +1

I hate it when I get pinkeye and diarrhoea on my mobile phone!

    • Doesn't photoshop have a filter for that?

  • +3

My phone is now covered in fecal matter. I read this sh*t on my iphone.

  • Scare tactics.

  • my wife does not allow me to touch kids after using my mobile…

  • +2

    to all the germophobic people…

why not wipe your phone with those "germ killer" wet towels (non-alcoholic)you can buy from the supermarket??? $3 for a 50 pack is it??

    99.97% discount!!

    • Very good point.

    • Hi hi5 ,

While these will eliminate some germs they are not as effective. Please see here for reference: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000087239639044486820457806… . Thanks!

      • How often do you use this product on your own phone?

Can we use it on the side of our face, hands and pockets?

In order for the phone to then stay clean it would have to be kept in a zip lock bag rendering it unusable, the bacteria will just be back the next time we pick it up without having just sanitized our hands and putting gloves on them.

        • Hi rekabkram,

I use it every day when I get home from work. It takes less than 5 minutes to clean the phone, I usually just have it running next to me while I am watching television.

Your logic could be applied to anything though - why would I shower if I'm only going to get dirty anyway?

  • +1

It gets to a point where we are too worried about germs.
Bacteria can be good for you because we humans have amazing immune systems that learn and adapt from small exposure to bacteria.

What about touching the doors of public bathrooms, pushing around shopping trolleys or tying your shoelaces(how many times have the tips touched the floor of that bathroom at the shopping centre where someone has missed the bowl)?
If bacteria from your phone is your biggest concern then I am concerned for you.

Have we forgotten the lesson of Golgafrincham? An entire species wiped out by a disease from a dirty telephone.

Soon after they managed to get rid of these people - including all the telephone sanitizers - the entire remaining population was wiped out by a plague contracted from a dirty telephone.

    • Beat me!

    • Agreed

    • Hi mbroere,

This is express posted and will arrive at your door within 4-8 working days. Thanks for your comment.

      • +1

And… with Christmas and New Year coming up, 4-8 WORKING days would be about the same as the time specified on ebay.

If Douglas Adams taught me anything it is that… hmm.. something to do with phones… nevermind, to the B ark with this!

  • Can we get a special on a flux capacitor soon rep?

    • +1

      Haha!
Just trying to make it work, crazy margins on those things!
Also not easy to get past the patented DeLorean prototypes..

  • I'm working on something which wipes outs 0.1% of all germs,
    We should partner up.

    • And it is that 0.1% that differentiates a Sanitiser from a Sterilizer!

  • What's a "toilet handle"?

  • are u allowed to copy scoupon or scoopon or whatever its called?

also u got errors on the site at the bottom it says melbourne exclusive, then the title says AU wide

    • Hi RainbowHands,

This is not my site, I am the merchant running the deal. Hope this clarifies this, thanks!

    • advertising a deal where the product is available elsewhere violates the group buy code of conduct. it is misleading advertising if the product can be bought cheaper elsewhere.

  • I can't be bothered writing a comment to criticise this product and the spiel associated.

  • +3

but who will sanitise the sanitiser?

    • Thinking that this is even possible would be insanity.

  • I always have a spray bottle full of dettol handy for those pesky cane toads. I might start using on my phone now that I have read this.
Also I live in WAs south so the bottle of dettol makes no sense.

This whole comment makes no sense.
