Wtf, $30 for a bus trip?
Yea return. Beats paying $50+ for an Uber each way
if you add in the extra time and money spent (+$10) hauling your luggage to a train station (each side), a cab is just way more convenient
If you've travelling with a family maybe. If I'm a 5-10 minute walk from a train station with just carry on luggage, that's not a hard commute at all.
@dust: Sure, it will be a different situation for each person/family. I'd prefer taking the bus myself if it didn't take so much longer getting in and out of stations, long wait times for train if you want to go early in the morning or late at night, etc.
@dust: if you're in that situation, I'd suggest getting the train to Broadmeadows station and getting the public bus to the airport from there, for a one way myki fare ($5.30 atm?)
Take Uber Pool next time, it's a bit cheaper at ~$40 each way. I think DiDi is also cheaper than Uber.
I mean, you can always take the train from the airport? Once the next government builds it.. and then the next.. and then the next..
It's been 84 years….
Jks it's really been just 66 years, so what's another.
66 years? Pretty sure Tullamarine airport didn't open until 1970, so that's 54 years.
Don't bother with TopCashBack for this.
They denied my claim for it by saying their cashback with Agoda is only for hotel stays. It’s in the T&C - Cashback is eligible on accommodation bookings only.
Showing as $18.19 one way and $30.44 return for me
even further discount nicee
I know it doesn't suit everybody but I took the train and bus to Flinders St last time I was there and it was easy as anything…..relaxing even! And it costs $5.30 and takes just over an hour.
Some more details about the route?
maybe this? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/682501
https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/journey/#JourneyPlannerForm:::acc…
Not sure if the link above will work but you can just go to the site and put it into the journey planner.
Disregard the 5min walk time from the bus to train, it's actually about 30sec.
It's $5.30 to catch a train to Broadmeadows and get the 901 Airport bus. Even cheaper at $2.65 with a concession.
It's also free to walk
True, and if you start now you might even make it in time for your return flight next week!
Flight next week?
He meant walking to Sydney! True ozbargainer!
approaching 2025 and still no train line through the Airport. yeah, best city.
WokeBus
Perfect timing, cheaper than NRMA and RACV - thanks OP
How can you select return on different days? Who's going to want to return on the same day?
It doesn’t matter which date you select. The ticket issued will be valid for 3 months from your purchase date
Yeah confusing…just purchased. Hope you don't need to depart and return same day
You don't when I last used them. However there is a valid period.
You don't. The QR code is basically valid for two trips.
In fact last time i didn't even use a return trip, both trips from MEL to Tullamarine. (Returned via other methods).
How long does it take for them to expire?
has anyone tried using a return ticket for two people on the one trip then? wondering if that would work
Also for Hobart. Was just about to buy my ticket in the coming trip. Thanks
Banks charge international transaction fee for Agoda as it shows as Germany website in the statement.
Legit? How much?
I bought SkyBus tickets, paid in AUD, it came up as "Agoda.com Berlin DE" and NAB slapped their standard Int transaction fee (3%) on top of it.
I've purchased in AUD and the pending transaction shows as Agoda.com Internet DEU, so it will most likely settle as Agoda.com Berlin DE like yours, with the accompanying international transaction hit.
@UrMumsOnlyFan: Settled as AGODA.COM Internet DE with an international transaction fee of $1.05.
Found two comments in the previous deal
Just purchased the Skybus tickets. Credit card statement shows processed by Agoda Berlin, with an international conversion fee.
Same here, would have used a different card if I realised..
Future deal posts will have to carry a warning.
They don't unless you're paying in other currencies
I bought SkyBus tickets, paid in AUD, it came up as "Agoda.com Berlin DE" and NAB slapped their standard Int transaction fee (3%) on top of it.
Thanks for the heads up. I find Amex to be the only card that doesn't engage in this rip-off practice of FX fees when paying AUD.
I've used Agoda a lot and never been charged any international fees - CBA credit card.
@deathjr: I haven't experienced international transaction fees with Agoda (though I don't use them much), but if Azro was somehow charged by Agoda's Berlin-based merchant or payment processor then it constitutes an international transaction, regardless of whether it was AUD or a foreign currency.
CommBank - What is an international transaction fee?
We charge you an international transaction fee when you make a purchase or obtain a cash advance (whether in a foreign currency or Australian dollars):
- While overseas; or
- In Australia (for example online) where there is an overseas connection, as the merchant, or the financial institution or entity processing the transaction, is located overseas.
In some cases, overseas merchants may allow you to pay in Australian dollars, e.g. when you’re shopping online or over the phone. This is still considered an international transaction because your transaction is processed overseas.
Note: Even though a merchant has a website address ending in ‘.com.au’ and displays prices in Australian dollars, they may still be located overseas or otherwise choose to process their credit card payments outside of Australia.
NAB - International transaction fees on your card explained
An international transaction fee is a charge that applies to any transaction, including purchases and cash withdrawals, processed outside of Australia, or in a foreign currency.
International transactions are transactions where the merchant, financial institution, or entity processing the transaction is located outside Australia. These transactions are either:
- Single-currency international transaction: where the transaction or cash withdrawal is made in Australian dollars (AUD).
- Multi-currency international transaction: where the transaction or cash withdrawal is made in a currency other than AUD.
For example, you could be on a '.com.au' website and paying for the purchase in AUD. However, the transaction may actually be processed by the merchant outside of Australia, so the fee will apply.
Yup Qantas Premier CC charged me int transaction fee for this purchase
For those looking to avoid car parking fees and not carrying much luggage, you can usually find space in front of Ciloms airport lodge, walk 5-10 min to the long term car park, then take the free bus.
Why do you need to select a date to buy these tickets? Are they only usable for the date you select?
Think tickets only have a 3 month validity.
Thank you.
3 months from purchase date btw, not selected trip date (I just purchased and can confirm)
T4 Bus to Broadmeadows, don’t get stabbed, train to city. Fraction of the price.
There's plenty of interesting people, but try not to stare or make eye contact. Treat it like a wildlife safari: observe from a safe distance and don't provoke the locals.
But honestly, I've been there perhaps 50 times, never felt threatened.
Could it be because you're the one people are scared of?
if I want to get to the city quickly, aside from uber/taxi (costs too much unless splitting with 3-4 friends/fam), this is the best option right?
Pretty much.
I wouldn't say they are fast but once it's left the airport it doesn't stop.
Takes around 45 mins to get into Southern Cross from airport in moderate traffic.
JA having spent $Bn on big projects and achieved no improvement in connecting the air port as well as increasing the number of pot holes in the state……
It's now showing $17.85 each way and $29.87 return
(Melbourne) Skybus and Ozbargain should never intersect. Make no mistake this service is a cartel who have paid of the airport operators to give them a monopoly and the most premium access to the terminal.
Don't support criminal enterprises and do yourself a favour and take the 901 bus at the the T4 bus interchange to Broadmeadows and take the Craigieburn line into the CDB. all for the price of $5.30. its about a 70 minute trip but at least you have the peace of mind that your money didn't go to supporting this racket.
if policy makers were doing thier job their would be 15 minute express services that connecting directly the airport to Broadmeadows and sunshine. but no serving the people would eat in to the bottom line of these crooks.
How to choose the time for the return trip? It must be same date?
Valid for 3 months from date selected I believe.
It’s 3 months from purchase date, not selected date
I just bought it for January but it says:
Valid Until: 23 March 2025cc @JDDDD
Just bought this for the trip. Thank you.
Just take the train from the airport…. oh wait
Just note this is charged in S$ so there will be card surcharges on most cards
Mine was AUD, but it doesn't matter either way if it's an overseas merchant or payment processor.
2 tips:
- It was about 30 cents cheaper (for a one way ticket) in an incognito tab
- Afterpay is a supported payment method and it doesn't seem to attract an international payment fee
Don't you just love how you pay for a ticket to Melbourne, but then have to fork out an additional $50 to actually get there?
And after all that, you're in bloody Melbourne?
Just bought a couple of returns on my Amex and wasn't charged anything extra.
Or try this for free if it works for you
