      And?

    • +5

you can't drive them oneway, and unless your trip is going to be less then a couple of hours, the Skybus would be cheaper

  • How much is it normally?

    • I think it's around $37 return normally?

      • +3

How is it still going up?

It was $33 return not long ago.

We need a damn rail link what a scam for a seat on a bus

        • I wonder if anyone will still take Skybus once the rail link is built?

          • @Mr Bob Dobalina: They might run outside the rail link hours, but honestly I'm sick of the monopoly they have.

It's the same in Launceston the is no alternative except private vendors or having a car.

            • @Telios: Auckland airport has no rail link either. Probably not essential to have a rail link to Melb or any airport as long as affordable buses are provided.

              • +1

@Mr Bob Dobalina: $20 is not affordable lol. In LA, a trip on the metro from LAX to downtown or the surburbs costs $1.75 USD.

                • +1

                  @bruceclipse: Exactly.

The friggin NEX bullet train in Japan is basically the same price as this scam bus and it's 10 times cooler, nicer, and faster.

And because they're a private company they are just going to keep increasing the price exponentially.

                  What's the breaking point $40? $50?

                  • @Telios: Regular price for return is now $40!

    • +14

Tell me you haven’t been on the Skybus without telling me you haven’t been on the Skybus.

        • +4

It's really not. They know what route to take to avoid any low bridges. I haven't ever heard of a SkyBus hitting a bridge and they run dozens a day, everyday of the year.

          • @Grannular: This. Even with the new route they’re started taking within the last year, it’s a non-issue

        • +2

Oh, but I had to, because it’s fear-mongering and not true, as pointed out by Grannular. So not a valid concern at all when it comes to Skybus.

Source: Have been using Skybus (unlike you) for the past decade.

    • They have now figured out which route to take which bypasses the low bridges so the route can be traveled safely. Yes at the beginning it was carnage until they figured which bridges to avoid.

One guy snuck on board at Melbourne station and we all had to leave the bus as he sniggered aggressively to everyone as we all had to depart the bus and get onto the next one. staff ignored him and called the police, seems people enjoy wasting everyones time as i was told this happens infrequently

    • -6

Hmm, calling the police because of someone sniggering? lol. What exactly is the crime?

      • +6

        Eating a succulent Chinese meal

        • You assured him that he could speak

      • Crime was not paying and forcing passengers to disembark over threatening of assault because he can, all the while with a classic smile, also smelling like feet and BO (which should be a crime) :D

        • Ok, you left out the part about him threatening assault.

          • +1

@Mr Bob Dobalina: Just a daily occurrence of crazies walking around Melbourne cbd hahaha

            • -2

@Headless: That's public transport for you. But hey, this new airport rail link is going to solve all the problems!

            • @Headless: Police station is right there at southern cross. I doubt he just got out from airport?

              • @askbargain: was trying to board at Southern Cross, probably just got released

  • Why Agoda asking for date selection as Skybus tickets must be valid for certain period of time and can be use whenever you like..?

    • im confused too, and it is showing only up to july 25th. also doesn't ask for a return date, but you have to pick a date for the 1st trip, but not the return trip.

      • +1

did you figure this out? Is it fine to pick random dates and just use within 3 months per Skybus terms?

        • I just purchased. The terms of the purchase say:

The voucher is valid for 90 day(s) from the booking confirmation date. It expires at 23:59 on the last day

I couldn't find any way to book open ended tickets. But it sounds like you have the regular 90 days.

It's a separate scannable voucher though you download. Ie. no easy way to add it into the mobile app. But not a biggie. Decent savings. Got a return for 33.95 - so saving $6.05 is nice.

    • did you figure this out? Is it fine to pick random dates and just use within 3 months per Skybus terms?

      • Yes, I just booked then and expiry date is 3 months.

  • -2

Does Skybus still go all politically woke and do the "Aboriginal sovereignty was never ceded" speech over loudspeakers at the beginning of each ride?

    • No, but they do have multicoloured busses supporting their stance on lgbtzrxyz

      • Their CEO is a WEF member so makes sense.

    • Cuckservatives don't deserve to enjoy anything lmao

  • Here’s some quick calculations I did for my upcoming trip for those who are interested.
It’s currently $40 without the discount. 30 minutes each way. So thanks OP - this saves $6, enough to cover a coffee.
The long term carpark is $12 per day, no need to book ahead - price remains the same.
Toll way from city is about $10 each way for taking the car.
For a 11 day trip it works out $100 more to drive and park but there is time saved not having to walk to PT, and catch the train late at night in my case.
Also I don’t like Southern Cross station, it has a bleak atmosphere and smells of diesel. (I feel sorry for people who work there). I try to pass through as quickly as possible

    • +1

i agree with you on the diesel smell… yuck yuck i absolutely hate that enclosed smell

  • Price seems to be $34.40 now? Which one is it btw? Is it the return tickets or the round trip? Not sure if there is a difference besides the price difference.

  • works with shopback?

  • +5

Thanks for this. Found that there is actually 2 different listings on Agoda at the moment for Skybus. This other one is slightly cheaper for now at $19.93 one way and $33.37 return. I purchased and got instant PDF ticket emailed. Note: Need to view on mobile for these prices (desktop is slightly higher).

    • +1

      Used this. Is cheaper. Thanks.

  • Does anyone know with this deal through Agoda whether they charge the credit card outside of Australia or whether the card is charged by an Australian merchant? Just want to avoid international transaction fees if possible.

    • My card transaction only shows the AUD amount at this stage, no indication of international fees.

    • +1

Just purchased the Skybus tickets. Credit card statement shows processed by Agoda Berlin, with an international conversion fee.

      • +1

Same here, would have used a different card if I realised..

  • This deal is still running as of 23-8-24. Booked yesterday.

You have to select the start date, but that's only to confirm the 90 day expiry. Ticket just says return trip and expiry, no set dates to use the service.

  • +1

confirm that it is still working for Hobart as well, just booked a round trip for $31.27. Thank you, OP

  • +2

the link in this deal doesn't work anymore

    newlink : https://www.agoda.com/en-gb/activities/detail?activityId=104…

    price : $20.99 oneway

  • Hmm, has anyone else had the same problem where itcouldn't choose return flights on different days? Like the first leg on the 25th and the second leg on the 29th?

  • +1

In case anyone has this same bug, and worries like me: when booking, it only allowed me to select "tomorrow" or later, it did not allow me to select "today". Despite this, I could still use it same day

    • Yea I had this same issue. Thanks for the confirmation.
