Thanks OP, was waiting for this kettle to go on sale!

  • +2

I bought a kettle from Kmart fairly recently, but with their bedding chemical debacle I've decided I won't trust their plastic either. Stainless works for me. Purchased.

  • +1

I also purchased this a few years ago only because of that "stainless steel". Other than "a bit noisy", all good.

    • +2

Clean it with citric acid (Google it). Takes a few dollars, about three minutes, and it's quiet again!

  • Cheaper on Kogan Website, 84.99

  • Thanks op , bought one from kogan

“Great for People Who Have Counter Cats
Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2024
    Color: Empire RedSize: 1.5 L
I got this because I was tired of waiting for the stove to cool down when I made tea. I would have to stick the kettle in the oven to cool down in case one of my cats decided to counter cruise while it was still too hot. Now this electric kettle is insulated so the outside stays cool to comfortably warm! and once I have boiled water i just unplug and push into a corner so the plug is hidden from tempted young paws. PLUS it is a Kitchen Aid so quality is there. Very happy with purchase and i do recommend this, cat people!”

Hysterical review from Amazon. Maybe teach your cat to not get up on the counter.

Maybe teach your cat to not get up on the counter.

You must have never seen a cat.

      • +1

Actually we have managed to teach our two kitties to not to get up on the kitchen counter. A good starting point is don’t leave meat sitting unattended on the counter and some judicious yelling. They do have the run of the rest of the place including the bathroom counters and sitting on us.

    • How do you teach them that exactly, do you have cat? Genuinely curious because I'd like to teach my foster cat this

      • Spray bottle with some water teaches them pretty quickly.

  • OOS Ebay - arghhh!!! added the last one to my basket and went to checkout and it was goooone :(

    • Still in stock with the dick smith link in the OP description

I was just putting that up now when you commented :)

How does this perform better than my $7 Kmart kettle that been lasting me 3 years besides that it comes in red and few more boil function?

    • +3

      Stainless Steel for $7?

      • -1

More like paying for a brand name, cheaper alternative also does exactly same thing don't fall for marketing crap.

        • +5

so that's a no to stainless steel then?

          • -3

@discountguy: More like paying for a brand name, cheaper alternative also does exactly same thing don't fall for marketing crap. Yes agree steel is better component compared to plastic, note your boiling water, not cooking on a crying pan, make no sense pay 100 times more for kettle besides it's appearance.

        • +3

Well, no. Closest is this, with plenty of plastic in sight: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/1.7l-stainless-steel-kettle… for $24.

If you do not care about that though, yeah it will boil water just the same.

          • +2

@erd: It's also insulated so not hot to the touch. Useful for people with limited bench space who could accidentally touch a hot kettle while doing other things.

Worth the price? It's subjective of course.

            • @Shoocat: Good point. Replacing my very old one which is non insulated as well, not great on a cramped space.

        • So does a pot on the stove

      • He was asking about the performance not the build.

        • Why would you ask about the performance when nobody claimed that it's more performant?

  • Thanks OP, I've been looking for a plastic free electric kettle too! Went into GG by chance a couple of days ago and picked up a Philips 7000 series which looked like it was all stainless steel on the inside and spout. However only found out the little clip that hooks the lid onto the main body is plastic after I got home.

Do you know if this KitchenAid has the same issue, or it truly all stainless steel on the inside where it touches the water?

    • +1

The clip that holds the lid on is plastic, but it's surrounded with steel and is not exposed to water/steam.

    • +1

When the lid is closed and the water is boiling, all parts are surrounded by stainless steel with no exposure to plastic from water or steam. I was also searching for a plastic-free kettle and ended up purchasing this one about a year ago. I’ve been very satisfied with it!

  • Where's the Xiaomi version, probably $20 for the copy

    • +1

$53.90 on ebay. full 304 stainless liner. looks good.
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/296659318682
All the Xiaomi stuff I've bought has been really good for the price.
There's also a version that will maintain a specific temperature for $62.97
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/204998464040
Might be cheaper elsewhere, I only checked ebay.

      • +3

"with free AU adapter plug"… No, thanks.

        • +3

          Yeah, that's a pity.
The second one might have a proper AU plug. It doesn't mention an adapter and the same version on amazon ($99) says it has a proper AU plug.
(instruction manual and text on the kettle's buttons are Chinese AFAICT)
          edit:
aliexpress AU$59.37 using "welcome deal" has "Original AU plug"

      • Always annoyed by products that keep overseas wattage, rather than having an Aus specific 2200W version. Taking advantage of our superior voltage is our birthright!

        • I don't think it works like that. If you got a 1500W 120V kettle and plugged it into 240V the wattage would be 6000W.

Similarly, if you ran the element in this kettle at 120V the output would be 375W.

They've selected an element intended for 240V, they've just selected a 1500W one for whatever reason. Maybe it was cheaper, maybe the size/dimensions were right, who knows.

  • +3

The 1.5L SS Kogan branded one seems like a much better deal. It also has no plastic inside

  • +1

Thanks - got it from Kogan and used my CBA Yello Kogan $10 cashback, perfect!

  • Milliom dollar question that everyone seem so amazingly don't ask but me, how exactly or roughly FAST does it boil water? A tad over 2 minutes and retain that for the life of the kettle would be also amazing.

    • +1

I found it faster than a breville set I owned, but haven't put a number on it. The other nice thing is that because it's insulated it actually holds that temp for longer. That's a nice thing as a new parent when you're making bottles.

  • +2

Note that a review says there's no window on this kettle showing you the water level inside. That could be a tad annoying.

    • +1

Yes, those windows are always made of plastic and in contact with the water. There are level indicators on the inside stainless steel wall.
