Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is fantastic. Heaps of great throwbacks to the original NES Zelda games and the Link to the Past time line. The music score is great also. It really feels like a "true" Legend of Zelda game, a culmination of all that came before it. I really love the style that they have solidified building on the Links Awaking remaster. You can really tell the love put into the game with all these tiny little tidbits throughout the world.

    Mario & Luigi "Brotherhood"

    Hmmm

Thanks for the post OP! Brothership wasn't as good as I thought it'd be tho.

    • I'm loving it. Good JRPG. Battles are a bit simple but they build a bit more into them once you're about 1/3 to 1/2 through. Quirky in art and story. A lot of text, but has a fast forward button.

      • How is it vs super Mario RPG, which I'm finding very boring?

        • Difficult to compare.

Nintendo refined their Mario JRPGs series a lot with the first few Paper Mario games after Square did the OG RPG and kinda fell into a formula, like a lot of their other series, probably after TTYD in the early 2000s. There's a bit of an easier entry to most modern Mario JRPGs, the battle systems are relatively simple, and the stories and dialogue feels a bit more sterile compared to some of the odd and comedic tones of their earlier entries.

I think they are moreish JRPGs with satisfying progression systems with that very nice Nintendo presentation and polish, solid 8/10s.

I loved Super Mario RPG too but part of that was appreciating it for the game it was of the time, and it's history. It definitely cracks alone at a fast pace compared to most JRPGs, and I found the battle systems still pretty sharp and fun, and the characters and tone and dialogue just hilarious.

          • @muwu: Thanks for your input.

I was blown away by paper Mario on 64. Ever since then I haven't thought much of them.

      • Yeah I might have had my hopes too high, seeing as the M&L RPG series is my favourite. I found the lack of separate control of Luigi, no individual/combo environmental bros move, and a few others, to affect the vibe of the game a lot more than I thought.

There's a lot of pros to the game though, like they did the graphics and vibe really well. Great conversion to 3D.

Overall just felt like "not my M&L". I think if you were not too nostalgia-ridden, you could enjoy it. It's a good game for sure.

Bottom line but, happy the series is back lol. Hope we get another one and it's even better!

      It's sooooooooo looooooong.

I actually just finished my playthrough tonight coincidentally enough, my final autosave is sitting at 79hrs 30 minutes 😭
      This aint no Atlus game!

It really felt like it overstayed its welcome with so much busy work regarding a lot of the main story narrative just dragging on and getting very fetch-questy at times, not to mention random battles taking forever with so many enemies having super long attack patterns.

Some of it was funny and it had some cool characters here and there but I can't say it was one of my favourite gameplay experiences this year :/

Lol yeah I was surprised at how long it was (felt the same about Sea of Stars, albeit more positively). I'm sitting at 65 hours myself.

I don't know about you, but I ended up doing alllll the side quests. If you don't do them I imagine it's a lot less tedious. I agree with the long attack patterns! I think they were trying to bring back the Bros. move vibe from SS. Even then oh my god how longgg are the actual Bros move. One in particular was very hard to Excellent too. That's why I was never a fan of the new ones (basically anything past SS).

I also was a bit disappointed with where the story went with the main villain. I agree with your sentiment. I really just wanted it to be better, guess my imagination got the better of me. Sad because it was my most anticipated game, especially after Alphadream went bankrupt.

Yeah I did 100% side quests, I guess that's on us and being completionists.

Probably would have been a lot shorter otherwise :P

@Stoibs: Funnily enough they did add a way to make the battle faster the item comes at the last 1 hour of the game XD

It's almost 2025, who is still buying MK8, and GTA5!

  • Thanks OP

  • FWIW I signed up for a Perks account to get the $10 voucher, which brings the games from $64 to $54 and then paid the difference with discounted JB gift cards. In my case that took Mario Party Jamboree down to $51.xx. As xmagic says above, $10 option is better than this deal for things under $100.
