  • 1) Is the cashback instant back to your account? Or do you need to accumulate it and can only withdraw once you hit a certain amount?

    2) Can you use Groceries to buy at Woolies GC Portal online (eg RACQ discounts)?

    • +2

Close to instant, redeem in $10 each time. So spend in a $100 increment.

      • or 250 QFF points

        • +2

Thats 4 cents per Qantas point, very poor value isn’t it?

        • +1

          Terrible conversion rate.

      • Any idea what happens if we buy more eg. $200? Do we lose the extra $10?

        • +2

Buy one $500 and get $50. I set the auto redeem back to Zip Pay.

          • @Neoika: Ah great, thanks!

          • +1

@Neoika: Can this be cashed out to debit card or bank account?

            • +1

@frostybite: Or can it use to reduce the balance owing?

              • +1

@frostybite: Doesn't look like you can cash out. You can use to reduce balance or buy another gift card.

          • @Neoika: Excellent tip with the auto redeem! Wish I had done it earlier!

        • +1

I bought 2 x $500 and was able to redeem my cashback in $10 increments

Can you use Groceries to buy at Woolies GC Portal online (eg RACQ discounts)?

      No.

The Woolworths Group gift card portal should use MCC 5399 (Miscellaneous General Merchandise Store).

Even if the Woolworths Group gift card portal used MCC 5411 or MCC 5499, the portal would reject the grocery gift card as a payment method. A full explanation can be found here (and yes, this linked FAQ is for the now-defunct ShopBack Supermarket Visa gift card, but it would behave in the same way as the grocery gift card in this deal, because both are MCC-restricted prepaid gift cards that operate on the Visa network).

      • Hi WookieMonster, do you know if Cole’s Group & Myer Gift card can be used to buy gift cards at Cole’s, like TCN or Ultimate Gift Card? Thank you.

        • It should be blocked by Coles’ checkouts with an Invalid Product Mix error as soon as you swipe or scan your gift card.

Coles Gift Cards are not redeemable on Coles Online or at Coles Express or Liquorland. Not redeemable for cash or payments of credit or store accounts. Gift Cards cannot be used to purchase Gift Cards.

  • +1

10% off Groceries Gift Card is good. And zip has reduced the redemption threshold for cashback to $10.

    • Can you use them at Aldi?
Pretty rare to find a 10% discount for them.

If so I might need to join, plus 12% Shell fuel

      • +3

Groceries Gift Cards can be used at the following merchant category locations: Grocery Stores & Supermarkets (5411) Miscellaneous Food Stores(5499)

According to link below, Aldi MCC (5411), maybe can use at 7-Eleven (5499) as well

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/mcc_list#a

    • What do you mean ? If I buy $500 and $50 credit, I cannot use the $50 to use it against the $500 zip payment ?

  • Can we use it to purchase stuffs from all retailers stores ?

    • As long as it’s one of the accepted merchant categories

    • "This card can be used at select merchant categories where Visa prepaid is accepted in Australia."

I was deep diving trying to figure this out too, from what I can tell, it seems to act as any other normal VISA prepaid giftcard.

      • Idk should we pull trigger lol

    • +3

You can use a Zip Visa Groceries gift card or Zip Visa Department Store gift card at any merchants using the Merchant Category Codes listed on the website listed in the gift card terms and conditions section of the Zip website, as long as the merchant chooses to accept prepaid Visa gift cards as a payment method.

For example, you can use a Zip Visa Groceries gift card at:

      • MCC 5411 - Grocery Stores, Supermarkets
      • MCC 5499 - Miscellaneous Food Stores

The MCC is something that is allocated to a merchant by the merchant’s payments provider, which means Blackhawk Network (the gift card scheme owner) has no control over the MCC used by a merchant.

However, whether a merchant accepts a Zip Visa Groceries gift card is up to them. For example, if you go to Woolworths and try to use a Zip Visa Groceries gift card to purchase a Vanilla Visa gift card, you may have a staff member stop you from doing this if they decide they do not like this.

      • So you should be able to use this to pay for Woolies Gift card in store at Woolies in that case right?

        • I am not sure.

The Zip Visa Groceries gift card confusing refers to both Category Choice and Incentives gift cards, so I do not know which one the Zip Visa Groceries gift card belongs to.

          • If the gift card is a rebranded Category Choice gift card, you cannot use it to purchase a gift card issued by Woolworths Group (e.g. Everyday WISH gift card), because Woolworths blocks Category Choice gift cards as payment methods for any gift cards issued by Woolworths Group.

          • If the gift card is a rebranded Incentives gift card, I have no idea.

  • Unlock the freedom to shop at your favorite department stores with ease. Whether it’s fashion, home décor, electronics, or more, this versatile gift card lets the recipient choose exactly what they want. This card can be used at select merchant categories where Visa prepaid is accepted in Australia. Visit www.incentivesgiftcard.com.au to view the list of of accepted merchant categories.

        thanks

  • +1

    Where's the damn merchants list

    • +3

If you followed the damn link in the terms and conditions, your answer shall be there

      Groceries

      Department Store

      • Couldn't find Myer or David Jones there - can they be used there?

        • It’s dependent on what MCC codes are against Myer and David Jones

Based on the link above by WookieMonster, both are classed as 5311 - Department Stores

  • my account was locked when I tried to buy the 2nd gift card…

    • +1

lol my account was locked as soon as I purchased my 1st gift card, and it wasn’t even successful purchase

  • Would the grocery one work at 7/11 for fuel?

    • +1

Only work for 7/11 location not selling fuel (e.g. inner-city convenience stores).

      • +3

… which means you can (probably) use this gift card to purchase a physical 7-Eleven gift card from a 7-Eleven inner-city standalone convenience store, then use that physical 7-Eleven gift card to pay for fuel at a 7-Eleven service station.

  • +2

the first one refer to this? The Category Choice Department Stores Gift Card https://www.categorychoice.com.au/card/department-stores/

  • great

  • Does anyone know if the department one can be used for 99bikes or trek bicycle?

    • I cannot find a webpage on the Incentives gift card website for anything regarding the Department Store gift card.

The Incentives gift card scheme is almost identical to the Category Choice gift card scheme (which is probably half the reason the Zip website confusingly refers to both gift card schemes). If you look at the Category Choice website, it says the permitted MCCs on that Department Store gift card are:

Pharmacies (MCC 5912), Department Stores (MCC 5311), Variety Stores (MCC 5331), Hardware Stores (MCC 5251), Men and Women’s Fashion Shops (MCC 5611, MCC 5621), Electronic Stores (MCC 5732), Book Stores (MCC 5942) or Sporting Goods (MCC 5941).

When I made a transaction on the 99 Bikes website last year, it returned an MCC of 5940 (Bicycle Shops: Sales and Service). That MCC is not on the list of permitted MCCs, which means there is a very good chance the gift card will be declined at 99 Bikes.

I have no idea about Trek Bicycle, but you would think they would use MCC 5940 as well.

      • +1

Bought a $500 to try in store after work. Fingers crossed

        • +2

          Can confirm, worked at Trek.

      • +2

use it to buy Cole’s group gc at Myer?

        • +2

That should work, as Myer should use MCC 5311 for in-store purchases.

          • @WookieMonster: Thank you! Wookiemonster!

BTW, have you seen any report that using grocery visa (Apple Pay) to purchase gc at Coles that payment was approved and money deducted but the GC activation fail/declined?
It has happened to me 3 times in last few weeks, wonder if that grocery visa payment method triggered it, or just my bad luck?

            • @li1123k: That happened to me last weekend, but it was the first time in many transactions that has happened to me.

I would chalk it up to bad luck.

              • @WookieMonster: Yeah it’s very odd, working in the morning but failed last night.
Do you normally get the store to refund you straight away or call their customer service to lodge a case?

                • @li1123k: When it happened to me on the weekend, the staff member at the self checkout took my gift card and receipt, and called the Customer Service Manager to fix the issue. (I did not ask to see the manager or for a refund or anything like that!)

The manager issued a refund back onto my Groceries gift card, and credit from the refund turned up on my Groceries gift card today.

                  • +1

@WookieMonster: My experience is that only very few experienced staff or manager will refund you on spot, night shift staff will ask you to come back the day time to see manager or call their customer service to lodge a case for instruction.
It’s just a hassle to going through it.

            • +1

@li1123k: I bought $900 woth of Ikea using Catagory Grocery Cards last week

  • Is there any cap?

    • There’s a redemption limit? I’ve redeemed $120 of cashback so far

      • You can redeem more after 24 hour.

  • Bought $1500 and redeeed $120

  • I just placed one order for Department Store Gift Card but no email or egift card sent. Where I can find my card?

  • My arrived less than a minute, check junk?

  • +1

Looks like you can only redeem $120 of cashback balance towards your zip pay balance in any 24 hours.
I purchased 3x $500, which is $150 cashback and only had $120 gone straight to zip pay balance.
There is a $30 cashback balance I am unable to redeem, just sitting there at the moment.
Took me a while to figure it out why.

    https://zip.co/au/rewards-terms-and-conditions

    1. Rewards & Rewards Goal Rules
You can only redeem 6 Reward Targets in each consecutive 24 hour period. You cannot request a redemption of (and we are not liable to you for) any Reward amount that is less than the Reward Target.
    • exactly same here. not sure whether i should repay $480 and proceed with another one. Or fully stop here

      • I am stopping here.
Don't want to be hit by some random T&C.

      • I've repaid many times already - I think it's rare to get a deal this good

    • Thanks for figuring that our for us :). I suppose they let you redeem the rest tomorrow.

  • there is a $10 monthly fee?

    • No fee if you pay off closing balance in full.

  • +2

Great. Haven't used zip for over 2 years since they stopped doing deals.

  • Wow - thanks OP - awesome deal and there's no purchase limit!

    • How many did you buy? My account got locked after the 3rd card

      • Account locked after spending $500 on 3 gift cards…

        • What is the process for unlocking? Do you need to call them?

          • @Moo Deng: I clicked 'unlock account' on the home page… Then received an email saying my account has been reviewed by their team and reactivated. But the groceries gc appears OOS :(

      • same here. Account got locked after 3*$500 card

      • +2

I bought $2k and was then blocked..
My wife got $1k and then OOS..

  • will applying to zip pay affect credit score?
can you buy GC with prepaid cards?

    • -1

Zip Pay used to be No credit check
      Zip Money Yes credit check

Not sure if that has changed

      • I think they have changed

      • +1

Zip Pay is on my credit report back from 2022

  • Thanks OP - solid deal, if these work the same way as the ShopBack grocery gift cards, then these would be eligible at Asian grocery and local fruit and vegetable stores too.

  • Do you check the card balance at www.cardbalance.com.au for these?

  • +1

    Is the groceries card finish?

  • Is the cash back on the grocery gift card OOS? My Zip app is showing 10% cash back for the department store one but nothing for the grocery one.

    • Yea gone.. we bought $3k and then they blocked my zip a/c :(

  • No longer see the 10% sign next to groceries card

    • There's still the shell gift card with 12% cashback, you can use that to buy a coles/myer gift card via Coles/Reddy Express

      • Brilliant! I was about to suggest getting the department store card to get 10% off Coles Myer GC at Myer.

      • Thanks is the shell gift card confirmed to work for in store purchases of gift cards at coles express?

        • +1

I just did it. Used it to buy Coles Group &Myer gift card

          • @rpb: What denominations do they have? Hopefully get 1 $500 coles gc. Assume the shell gc can be loaded to a digital wallet and pay just like any credit card

            • +1

@sub102: It's variable. You tell them.
              What I did:
              Purchase from Zip app
              Get email
Click link to get card details
Add card to Apple Pay using details
Get Coles Group & Myer Gift Card off hanger
Ask for it to be $100
              Pay with Apple Pay

This was on some new fancy buttonless eftpos machine that I had not seen before.

  • I just bought and got 10% back
