Question about 5G Home Broadband Service

i have problem with my nbn my internet is keep dropping.
just wondering if i order 5g home broadband service to my parents house and use in my home address (1.5km distance), will it be a problem?
I have full 5g mobile coverage in my area but not the 5g home broadband so i can't order to my home address.
if not should i just use the starlink

5G has extremely limited range. If you ordered 5G broadband for your parents house and then moved the 5G equipment to your place (1.5k away), it most likely wouldn't work since your home isn't in the range of any 5G cell towers.

I'd try to troubleshoot whatever nbn service you have first, and see if you are eligible for a FTTN to FTTP upgrade. (If you are currently on FTTN and live in an eligible post code).

  • will it be a problem?

yes… if you are using a different tower.

      hahahahahaha!

  • Not sure, but I asked Optus guy once because I wanted to do the same, and they told me they check and you can get your network cancelled for breaking the terms of service :(. Never heard of it actually happening though but I assume most companies have something in their terms because they don't have the bandwidth in the area even if they have 5g apparently.

Not sure if possible, but I heard some people upgrading to the gigabit speed because it required NBN to upgrade their connection which fixed up their dropout issues. Then they dropped back down. But have no idea if thats legit or just something I read online.

Also heard of people going on Aussie Broadband for a bit as they found them easier to help get NBN to fix the connection compared to other companies that don't help, then they churn out. Again never tried it though. (I'm assuming you've tried to get your current provider to fix the issue already and they won't/can't?)

    • Yeah nbn FTTP can fix dropout problems.

100/20 speed tier is enough to swap from nbn FTTN to FTTP and FTTC to FTTP if your home is eligible. Gigabit speed is not required to get nbn FTTP but it's there if you want it.

Are you sure it is the NBN and not something locally killing your router? I've had that happen once before, a Ethernet over Power Adaptor was dropping my router.

What NBN technology do you have? I would highly suggest pushing for your NBN to be looked into further and diagnoising that than going down the path of Startlink. Costly investment plus higher monthly fee. I am a big fan and user of Starlink, but should only be used as a last resort in some ways. Not as a "my NBN keep dropping out, I haven't spoken to NBN or got an NBN tech out" solution.

  • Probably try the 5g mobile broadband first to ensure 5g reception is fine and it actually works? You are not restriced to one address on this.

  • 5G Home Broadband is different from normal 5G. Just because you can get 5G, doesn’t mean you can get the home broadband product

There’s things like tower capacity that is also taken into account before you can sign up for it

  • No if you go with the yes company.

Better to get the NBN sorted with your RSP. If the RSP sucks try OZ Broadband.

  • What sort of speed are you after? Would 4G Home Broadband suffice? (eg.Spintel)

Alternatively, you could opt for an NBN plan that includes 4G backup. Worst-case scenario, it fails over when the NBN drops out. Best-case scenario, your NBN connection gets fixed.

Avoid 4G. Just as you get used to it, the govt will let Telstra shut it down. Aim for 6G.

      7G at a minimum
